You’re one of the most positive people I’ve seen in the fandom, I don’t think it’s fair for anyone to be saying that your Skeleton reviews are too negative! Even when you don’t love something, you’re incredibly respectful and thoughtful about it. Side note, as someone who’s first Star Wars movie in theaters was the Clone Wars movie… I’m SO excited for a potential revisiting of Rotta!!
@Vulcanerd7 күн бұрын
Precisely. He's not hating on it, he just doesn't maybe love it as much as some of us and that's ok. Not just that, when he expresses reservations about certain parts of the show, he's not launching into some screed about how awful it is, he's simply expressing why something doesn't work for him, but people are going way overboard about it.
@thecobe-lee96747 күн бұрын
I actually like your push-back against the way streaming shows pace out their seasons. These days, I rarely even watch these shows until the whole season is out because the actual weekly experience just isn't that fun unless they are telling a satisfying story each episode.
@MSeanMcManus6 күн бұрын
I agree, this is the same trend that's transpired in comics over the last twenty plus years. Now people are writing for the series instead of the episode, I find it much less satisfying. I think of it like dinner, I want to eat every course when I go out to eat. I don't want the dessert or starter to come the following week. Just let me eat now! XP

Q&A: Since Rotta the Hutt is finally coming back in The Mandalorian and Grogu film and we know IG-11 did mention that Aliens age differently. Do you think might see Rotta the Hutt s a Teenager Age, he could have an appearance as 20s like, or do you think he might still appear as a Baby?

Somehow poetically, Star Wars fans only operate in the black and white. Operating in the grey is hard for us, just as George Lucas fortold. (but honestly we should all operate in the grey more.) But Alex's gripes about streaming is something I agree with. It isn't just a Star Wars problem. It's a serious industry problem.

I think Alex is right, the issue is structure. I'm enjoying the show too but it has been an adjustment since streaming and binge watching has become the norm. We grew up where each individual episode of a television show had it's own three act structure with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Occasionally you'd get a cliffhanger episodes or two-parter, but those were typically at the middle or end of a season. For my experience, I struggled with Andor's structure more though, especially the first couple of arcs. It felt like the first two episodes of each arc would just stop in an unnatural place and go to credits. The three act structure was split between all three episodes with each one being an individual act, so it felt really weird.

I miss the old TV shows, with 20+ episode seasons and letting the plot build up and breathe, and filler/bottle epsiodes which do most of the heavy lifting for WORLDBUILDING and CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. I'm liking Skeleton Crew a lot, but I wish there was more time to explore each place. Also, I'm still watching the video, but I really want to shout out the part at the pirate port where Fern knew that the obviously-a-brothel wasn't a place to go, and then the obviously-a-sex-worker did her best to help the girls. I don't really have a question here, just loving that bit of somewhat gritty realism. It's one of those things that most children won't think much of, but older kids/teens and adults very much will, and that seems to be deliberate since it's got the deliberate vibe of a movie from the eighties.e old

You guys are the most respectful, honest and fair reviewers of SW content on this platform, unlike some other so called SW “experts”on KZbin. You are almost always positive. So when you don’t like something as much as we do, we question ourselves and whether we’re looking at things correctly. At least that’s my perspective.

I think you got so much flack, me included. Because fans negative reviews have done so much damage to the Star Wars material coming out. So many different fans want star wars to appear like what their idea of star wars should be. The acolyte did have it's issues, but for the fans like me, that were enjoying it, got swallowed up by negative takes and critics, just became incredibly frustrating. It almost feels like there's a sense of fear, that with too many negative critics we will lose this series too. Hopefully that makes sense.

Vin Diesel played Groot, reasonable to think Jeremy Allen White would speak Huttese in the movie. Probably a mix for real though. As long as it’s not ALL basic Im cool.

4:51 X-Files & Buffy and other tv shows of those eras had the benefit of having stand-alone episodes. They were “monster of the week” series and there was less pressure to have each episode fit with a season-arcing narrative. The only SW show that had something like that was season 1 of Mando. Or early seasons of the Clone Wars. And shows like that were also given 22 episodes a season where the streaming model only gives SW shows 8 measly episodes. So each one has to count. Because of that, certain SW shows have felt more like movies where the episode breaks are chosen somewhat arbitrarily. It’s quite rare that each episode has felt like it was made to have its own beginning, middle, and end. However, I’d argue that so far each Skeleton Crew episode has felt like its had a beginning, middle, and end structure-wise within each episode. Maybe the rest of it will feel like a movie broken up in pieces at random, but for me thus far the show has been pretty good in structuring each episode to feel like a deliberately crafted piece of episodic television.

I think the reason people misunderstood the complexity in your review was because a hot take single episode 10 minute review, doesn't have the room or time for complexity. Most complaints require nuance and explanation as opposed to most compliments, I think. I still enjoyed hearing your explanation of what you think pacing is, and loved the live stream discussions. Which is why I think those spaces have the room for "i liked it but didn't love it and here's why kinda stuff". Maybe take the time in the hot take review to direct people to the a longer discussion as opposed to trying to cram it all in. We are simple brain people, and a lot of us are watching your recap videos first thing in the morning when our full complexity prepared brains just aren't ready. We just want he liked or didn't, what are some of the best parts we missed. Either way, I've said my piece, you do you, cram all the complexity you want and complain about the entire universe every chance you get Alex, if it makes you happy. be you. mtfbwy

I really think the whole Rotta story is a misdirect. Its either an example of hiring a random big name for a voice acting role they shouldn't be used for.. Or they are playing someone else and will have more future appearances in the series.

If Rotta is a "good" character it would make sense for him to speak basic - it's not like Hutts couldn't do it, but they generally refused to do so as they felt superior in imposing their own language and all that. And I feel like having the character be just another Jabba would be too much of a "same old" kind of thing, just redoing everything. Showing a different kind of Hutt would be much more interesting.
