While we talk about the characters' arcs, in the comments, it got me thinking about the Cerritos' arc. At the end, there was the cameo of the TNG era ships with the Cerritos standing as equal with the Titan, the Enterprise, and Voyager. Her arc went from her having to be rescued by big badass Riker's Titan, and her fellow Cali class, to saving the universe, all by herself. The best crew ever to serve together, heroes of the multiverse. She had the opportunity to be a Sovereign or a Galaxy, but Rutherford and the universe needed the modular adaptability of the jack-of-all-trades Cali. The little, aged, support ship, never top-of-the-line in anything, honored by Star Trek's finest.

Or another nod to STO and have the F show up with Shon in the Captain's seat...

With regards to Rutherford's sudden hostility to the implant, while I do agree that it was a bit rushed in this episode, looking back on Lower Decks as a whole, you do begin to realise that it's been more trouble than it's worth from start to finish. It is the reason that Shax died for the first time, it's first removal caused Rutherford to lose his memory and that had consequences later, it frequently got glitched, and it almost killed the Rutherford we know in that thing with his younger self. Added to that, the fact that he was surgically altered without consent, and - what I think is the clincher here - the fact that his alternate universe self from Dos Cerritos had gone so far with the cybernetic enhancements that he was barely human anymore. Honestly, I think going implant-free was always going to be the outcome for Rutherford, same as some form of romantic relationship with Tendi was always on the cards for those two, but as it was announced later than might be preferred that this was the final series of Lower Decks, they really had to rush it. If we had been given a season, or even half a season, of Rutherford getting more frustrated with the Cerritos, before finally realising that the problem was his implant, I don't think it'd be so big of a problem. Likewise, if we'd even had one extra episode of Tendi and Rutherford adjusting to a new dynamic in their relationship now he's implant-free, I think the potentially mutual romantic attachment between the two would not seem so out of place either. We can that they are setting up for a few shows, potentially, following the Lower Decks continuity, and a few more stories with familiar characters, but they probably also felt obligated to tie up the loose ends of the stories they had planned

My now 13 year old Son and I have watched every episode of Lower Decks together rushing home on premier night before chores or homework it was a thing he and I did together. Lower decks got him interested but we have sense watched all of TNG, DS9 and Prodigy and are waiting for the new season of Strange New Worlds as well. This all started with Lower decks and I believe my son is now a life long fan. He and I are so disappointed that Lower Decks has ended. To the shows credit I don't believe there has ever been a Star Trek Series that was so easily relatable to such a large demographic, that did not take itself so seriously, but WAS STAR TREK. This series gave me as a long time fan of the franchise many of the same feelings I got from all of my favorite Trek Series: TOS, TNG, DS9 and more, and added a splash of levity above and beyond what would be expected from these other series. And I am so happy I was able to share this with my boy. Paramount, pick this show back up and fund it. Netflix, If Paramount doesn't continue this show pick it up and fund it. Amazon, if Netflix doesn't scoop this show up, Cancel Rings of Power and fund this. Just my two cents.

Talking about legacy cameos for a final Star Trek episode: Like maybe Riker and Troy playing the Cerritos’s final mission on the holo deck? What could go wrong with that? I'm sad that it's ending, but at the same time, I'm hopeful for more with these characters: 1) You're right about Rutherford and Tandi suddenly being together being awkward and not believable. But I like that they're maybe going to move in that direction. Regardless of what happens with them, though, I think this is also going to be a bit of a personality shift in Rutherford again just because he no longer has the Vulcan thing regulating and suppressing and controlling memories. So I think there's actually room for more self reflection. 2) I want a Star Base 80 series. I want to see Captain Carol Freeman guarding the multi-demensional portal in this old bucket of bolts that hasn't been updated in forever, and maybe they're going to have to think outside of the box and consider other tech to update it with. And trying to live with her husband who outranks her, but she's the one in charge of the station. The two of them have lived lots of their lives apart, and even if they love each other, they may have a lot of learning to work together and learning to deal with each others changes to go through (I mean, she thought the fake Alonzo was real. That's bad.) 3)I like the potential of Jack Ransom, the meathead, as captain. I mean, he's not an idiot, but he's not the brightest bulb either. And so I wonder how he'll handle certain problems just because I don't think he'll always make the best choices. He believes in the Star Fleet ideology, but he's flawed. 4) Boimler and Mariner working together, because despite Ransom attempting to make it a healthy competition, I think both of them are past the point of competing. And they need to keep Ransom in check from his worst impulses. Also, Mariner's move at the end and all and her Yellow Shirt self in the alternate universe. She said she wasn't feeling quite happy with what she was doing, so maybe she transfers to engineering? 5) And as always, I want a future Trek with Captain Tendi and Chief Engineer Rutherford 15 years down the line. 6) Also still want a Shaxs and T'ana wedding episode or movie with that as part of the plot. 7) Still so much to be figured out with T'Lynn. I actually thought the science besties thing was not given enough foundation, though I like it going in that direction. 8) I really want a T'Pol returning Dax's memories to its people. Anyway, I see so much potential still in these characters. Oh, and Jack Quaid's Boimler screams need to become something people swap in and out with the Wilhelm scream. They're just amazingly iconic in their own right.

UP: Boimler casually wiping out two Birds of Prey by bumping one of them with the Cerritos' shield. I guess sometimes shields do work. UP: The Cerritos drifting back slightly after stabillising the rift, because physics and conservation of momentum in space. UP: Relga's derpy savage Klingon dog was essentially the classic evil villan white cat trope. DOWN: Freeman not knowing how single nacelle ships warp, and shutting down Tendi. Seriously, did a Captain not do basic warp field mechanics at the academy? CetObs: Livik continuing to push the boundaries of what can be done with a Tucker Tube. CetObs: Watching the moving stars during the opening bar scene suggests the bar is on the starboard (possibly fore quarter) of the ship.

Loved this video and have been waiting for you to cover it. I will say I wanted to add some understanding to some things missed: •In the initial fight with the klingons when they were trying to leave, boimler did hit the thrusters to shove 2 birds of prey into each other, so theres the missing two ships. •Rutherford analyizing the continuous transformations of the ship, and he realizes the ships isnt the problem (especially when it's a sovereign) he ruled out that it was his implant that holding him back. •As Rutherford is tinkering with the warpcore, he uses the S.Field energy to pump directly into the warp core, causing unpredictable outcomes. Which would be the reason it was Biforcated into two ships. Channeled so much energy. It broke physics, lol •And to just speculate, the warpcore filled with energy from the mutiverse, mariner made some kind of graviton beam to condense or gravitate all the energy into a singularity... But at the end of the day, i loved this episode, and it was a lovely send-off for the series, i just hope it doesn't end here❤

I'm going to miss Star Trek: Lower Decks. I'm also going to miss Sean's reviews of Lower Decks. So much fun to watch.

I was Crying and laughing wathcing this episode i did not want it to end cause this has been one of the best Star Trek series ever! We NEED a spin-off i need More of Mariner , Boimler Tendi and Rutherford

The mechanism for how they stabilized the rift was essentially the same they tried to use to close it. Mariner realized they didn't have enough power to seal it, even when powering their warp core with the energy emanating from it. So, inspired by Malor's remark, she switched tactics, and instead used that channelled energy to power turn it into a stable gateway.

Beard Watch final report: Sean's is coming in really nicely. It very nearly matches the magnificence that is Boimler's beard.

I mostly agree, but I have to say Rutherford being so out of character and angry out of seemingly nowhere was definitely a down for me. That's the kind of thing that should have been built up throughout the season. The more you say "Engage the Core", the more I like it

I am devastated that this is the end of Lower Decks. But WHAT an ending!!

My online BlueSky name is Star Base 80 Shuttle Pilot and it will remain so. This series has been the best mental health pick me up. The deep cuts, the humor, the animation, the voicing, the direction, the production - ALL Of it. Best deep cut was from Season 1, Episode 6 Terminal Provocations - Badgey, right before being Xd, With thumb up says "Diplomatic Immunity" Chefs kiss.

Episode had me tearing up the last 15 minutes to the credits.. great episode, embodies what trek is about.. best final star trek episode I've enjoyed of the saga so far. Reminded me of it's personal appeal. Tied up a few archs, set up a few new interesting possibilities. Lower Decks, we'll done.

I still can't believe its over for now... Damn best trek of the new trek. Best show finale since All good things. You missed out the reference to the Enterprise being chased by 3 birds of prey in the boundary cloud of the Delphic Expanse in Star trek Enterprise.

I’m sad that it is over but I don’t think it’s over. I think (or strongly hope-to quote Deadpool I am making an educated wish) that there will be a Star Trek Senior Staff show coming…and hopefully Live Action. This show was a love letter to Trek. 99.99 of the episodes were amazing (wasn’t a fan of the Peanuthamper solo ep but if that’s my only complaint…well they knocked it out of the park then) Honestly they wrapped this up perfectly. They went into every season with an arc but all the episodes were also self contained. They developed the characters beautifully throughout the series and used the tonnnnssss of Easter eggs and references as a beautiful garnish to the stories they were telling. I even got teary eyed on so many episodes but especially the last. Ok my only big complaint is I want more 😂 I never have high hopes on a series finale but they delivered. I didn’t know what to expect at the end but they hit the mark perfectly. Ugh 😑 I’m sad that it is over but I truly expect there to be a continuation. Hey Paramount…make it so!

The fact that someone (I don't remember who) said that Lower Decks was canon means that other versions of Star Trek can interact with that multidimensional portal (and I love the design of it). Could lead to a lot of great stories.

Missed out that boimler takes out one of those klingon ships with a barrel roll. Although you did comment on the barrel roll...

24:00 Ya gave it an up, but I'm giving it a down because... it's really cool and I want one but I just finally finished my Cerritos model and now I have to go make a Terran Empire Cerritos. And, naturally, no one has any such models designed so I have to go design my own and I don't have time for this!
@bjoernusw51952 сағат бұрын
Regarding the two disappearing and reappearing Birds of Prey: Those two actually get destroyed when the Cerritos first runs away from the fleet. The called out maneuvering thruster was Boimler bumbing the Cerritos upwards and sideways against one of them, causing it to crash into its too closely following wingman, and both explode. None of the Birds of Prey at the stabilized rift were involved in the chase.

I like that the ending still gives us at least 3 ways the show can go on either as a direct continuation, the Multiverse being explored, or we continue with a Ransom led Ceritos movie!

@TrekCulture Love the channel and the ride for the season, but you missed giving an Up for the "friendship high-five" being the ol' "live long and prosper"!

Since it wasn’t given in this Ups and Downs, a dilithium up to Seán for referencing Dragon Ball Z. For a while I was wondering which were you gonna reference, Street Fighter or Dragon Ball, and when you said the latter, that put a big smile on my face.
