I would not even used the word "allowed", as its quite obvious who was in charge. Tarkin. He knew it and he didn't give a toss what Vader said or did. There is really no way Vader could have stopped him, short of running him through with his lightsaber, which would have resulted in him being killed by the Emperor for treason in short order.
@heartless34 жыл бұрын
@@englishlady9797 I doubt the emperor would have replaced vader. At this point raising and finding another force sensitive being is difficult. In one of the comics Vader was sent to the jedi temple to retrieve a list of children who were eligible younglings. He had purposely destroyed the list so he could not be replaced. Vader would've likely suffered a lightning wrath from sidious if he didn't fully approve. I think the other issue here is palpatine approved blowing up a planet but he himself was not expecting alderaan. It's sort of a if he had known which planet he probably would've said maybe not kind of situation. It's not like the imperials would've arrested vader for treason either. He could've easily wiped out anyone in the room. Seeing that vader kills captains and admirals left and right, vader would likely just need proper justification and palpatine would've went along with it. Tarkin was important before the death star was fully operational. After seeing it's completion he might not be as important.

The great irony is that Tarkin was very wrong even by Machiavellian logic. Machiavelli stated that cruelty should be used rarely, only in dire need and in such a calculated manner that everything is finished in one swift motion, so the population can quickly forget and go on with their lives. Tarkin ended up destroying a valuable planet for no immediate gain, to apply the constant cruelty of fear and leaving the loose end that was the Rebellion still standing. As such, much like a cornered animal, certain doom prompted violent reaction from the population against the regime. Tarkin's Doctrine was therefore wasteful and counterproductive.

I doubt it. Thrawn would have used it as a political tool. However, I suspect that he would also have taken precautions against an attack. Occasional jumps to isolated systems, keeping the Death Star out of the public's eye for a while, then jumping back and so on so that only few would know where the Death Star would likely be at a certain time. Also, he would probably have played with the Death Star beam quite a bit to see how to use it effectively. Say, you want to take out a planet. Why blow it up? Why not shoot the ray in such a way that it only scratches the planet's shield? Would this suffice to knock out a planetary shield? And if it does, how would a rebellious planet with a knocked out shield react to the Death Star that is maybe even supported by a bunch of Star Destroyers?

Interesting story arc there. Look up 'Operation Shadow Hand'. It actually justifies that seemingly broken and self-loathing Luke we see in SW:TLJ. That would be when Luke actually fell to the dark side under the reborn Palpatine, and Leia had to snap him out of it. The Battle of Onderon was very costly for the Rebels/New Republic, which also included the destruction of Byss. I had no idea this was a part of Legends until I watched Eckhart's Ladder's lastest work and did the research myself. If Op Shadow Hand is made into Canon, then that 'Luke' we saw in SW:TLJ is actually justified IMO. That much guilt is very hard to dismiss. If that is a spoiler, oops. I am merely guessing...

I actually thought Vader was sort of schocked in this scene along with Leila and you could notice that both suffered from some form of PSD at that precise moment with a mixture of schock and complete disbelief not being able to even stand still, with Vader seeing the weapons power as over kill, while Leia being traumatized by the destruction of her entire planet, neither of them thought Tarkin would actually go that far and Vader merely thought he was just going to blow up a nearby moon or asteroid to make her think they'd actually do it to make her panic,I think from Vader's perspective it was actually a pretty sensless act. I think the mere senseless and cruelty of this act was even beyond what he himself would do, and I believe that the schock for Leila was so bad Vader actually as an act of mercy used medication to calm her down , which ironically might had been the reason why she was able to lead the attack on that very station merely days after, being one of the driving forces behind the rebel alliance victory, but I do wonder did the whole situation leave a dark shadow on her, requiring her to constantly take stress reducing drugs to help her cope with what would be one of the worst trauma's and PSD's in the entire galaxy ,which could also somewhat explain why in the end Leila made terrible decisions in her private life, leading to her son's fall towards the dark side. I mean there's probably no other character in Star Wars universe that doomed entire planets merely through association, and the guilt and trauma associated with this, must had some more serious consequences than what we're being shown in the movie and I wish they actually explored this. As far as Vader or Anakin is concerned I don't think it traumatized him as badly, but he was well aware of the fact that in the end this senseless muscle flexing would only come back to bite the empire in the end, and mostly considered the act as reckless and indeed one that could be devised by a mad man with an inferiority complex, especially since it also revealed the existence of the super weapon, negating it's strategic advantage in being hidden and deployed as a cruel surprise to the rebels at the last minute while also making it seem they had several of these at disposal ,and literally using them to wipe the board, somewhat wasting the weapons potential in fatally scaring for life a single rebel princess,I also think that Palpatine always planned for two Death stars to exist at the same time, making them appear as either a single weapon or multiple battle stations (since it would be impossible for the empire to build the new one in such a short time unless the building was actually started as the first one was being finished) this would mean that Palpatine might had planned for at least three death stars or two one commandeered jointly by Tarkin and Vader and the other for himself.

Since Rouge One we can see just what one generator could do. The Death Star could just destroy a planets surface probably with 2 generators alone. That alone would kill all life on it and leave it a dead hisk of a ball of dirt with a big crater in it. I'd like to see Mando go to Jeda to see what it looks like after what one generator could do.

It's a oversized bulldozer that can clear planets for more space roads.
Everything is clear. Ending justifies the means. Their view. Leia had Force powers too.

Tarkin was insane. As evil as Vader or Sideous.

Tarkin could have created a new disease and attempted to block out the sun on that planet. That would've scared Leia into talking.

And yet people keep saying that Vader destroyed Alderaan. Vader never commanded the Death Star in the first place

This is one of those legends stories where it's actually a good thing it no longer is canon. It's kind of an unrealistic story. If Vader thought for a second that Tarkin was doing this without the Emperors consent, he would have not allowed it to happen. No matter if Tarkin was in "command" or not. Nor would Vader allow Tarkin to talk down to him in any way.

This tells me Vader only respects the people who don’t fear him. And there’s not a whole lot of them out there either.
