Hearing Mark Hamill talk about when he first read the script for Force Awakens and thought Luke was gonna show up during the Forrest battle when the light saber started shaking in the snow. The Hero returns at just the right time to fight the villain. He would have been powerful enough at that point to sense Kylo Ren killing Han Solo… And at that point there’s no way Rey should be able to battle Kylo Ren without getting sliced up…. But Luke would shred him and leave him alive…. What an ending that would have been

Man you nailed it. Luke's original defining trait was his unshakeable hope. Luke's optimism and values like, we can do this, I will not fail, you can be good again, we will overcome the dark was what held that small group of rebels together. I think Han left the security of the Ice Base in ESB to find Luke, which everyone knew was almost certain death, not only because he Luke was his friend but more that Han knew that without Luke the rebellion would fail. Not because of his Jedi powers but because Luke was the shining beacon of hope and optimism which was the glue that held everyone together. What he was turned into is such an slap in the face to the original writing.

i think one of the biggest miscalculations disney made was thinking they can attract new (generation of) audiences by throwing at them an iconic established IP like star wars ...while forgetting the part that many of these IP are/were introduced to younger audiences by parents/mentors ... on a side note.. just take a look at all the youtubers still caring about star wars today ... many of them from the genration that watched the original trilogy at the cinemas ... so much for recommendations :P (long point short: please the original fans ... the new ones will folllow)

I really appreciate this video SW Theory. I'm someone who doesn't like to complain but good storytelling mean a lot to me. When the Sequel Trilogy was announced, I was very excited. I saw it opening night with my mom, brother, sister and my youngest son. My mom had Stage 4 Pancriatic Cancer at the time. That first opening night meant a lot to me and it was the first time in a long time we went out as a family to see a movie together. My father was the one who got me into the Original Trilogy and I was hooked every since. It was fun seeing my family having a good time that night and I saw it the next night with my wife and oldest son and our friends. I will say I like the Force Awakens. Now the rest of the Sequel Trilogy, I tried to like it but too many glaring things came out and once I got pass the hype and watched it many times over I was a bit upset. The major part was Luke Skywalker. At first I was like ok, I can see this. Than going back and watching it again, I was like they screwed up. Hell the main screw up was in Force Awakens with Kylo Ren speaking to Vaders helmet. Luke and Leia would've told him about his grandfather. Again I pushed passed it, but I also read the novelizations of the movies and just shook my head. Anyways. Now as for Disney, I do feel they can coarse correct. I'm sure they have people out there reading what fans and non-fans are saying about Star Wars. I truly feel as a community we come together regardless of what shows and movies people like. No one should be put down for what they like or don't like within Star Wars. With all that's going on, we come to SW to escape and enjoy something we all have fallen in love with. Now as for the coarse correction, they have all the material they need. From Legends, to video games, comics and so on. I want for them to take their time and not be in a rush. I want them to pay attention to whats come before and look at where they are now. Seriously take a look at the movies first, then to everything else. I'm not saying reading every Legends Novel. They have access to all of this already, but if you're trying to tell new stories, look at what's come before, find that magic that was already there that's still there and start from there. I feel that they need to do retreats before speaking about any tv show or movie or animated series to the media. Find a direction, flesh out the directors, writers, crew and story. If we're going past the Sequels and you want Rey to have a Obi-Wan role. Ok that is where you can insert an animated series. Flesh out the Sequels. For me that's what the Clone Wars series did for me. Again I wasn't the biggest Prequel fan, but it was the books and animated series that made me a fan. I wasn't feeling Ahsoka at all, Anakin never had a padawan. Then she grew on me. Why? Because of the story that was told. Her journey, Anakins journey, and Obi-Wans followed by the journey of the Republic, the Separatist and so on. Some things I didn't like but it helped tell a complete story just like Rebels. I feel the same can be done for the Sequels. Now will this fix them? No. It can't because there was no cohesion to the story. That isn't the actors fault at all, hell even they said the scripts kept changing, especially during The Rise of Skywalker. I don't blame them at all. There was just no plan, though right now they have the time to do things right. It will set them back a little, and I would rather them do it right versus just rushing. I feel like Dave and John need to slow everything down and they need Kathleen Kennedy sidelined. Just make sure the funding is there which they get from Disney and do what Bob Iger said, give the creatives the control to create again. That's what Kathleen needs to do. There is plenty of talent out there, but instead of meeting with Kathleen, they should meet with Dave and John and George. Maybe bring George back into the fold. When you have ideas moving and going from person to person who want to tell the best story possible. I know I rambled. I'm sorry, but I've been thinking of writing to Lucasfilm and Disney. They really need to hear this. I know they see all of these messages but Lucasfilm needs to hear from us in a positive manner. To be honest, I don't see how they didn't hear us and see us when we all reacted to the Season 2 Finale. One of the best episodes in tv history. It was utterly amazing, I miss that feeling of excitement. I want it back. They can do this, they just need to get back to the core of what is Star Wars. I'm sorry for the word soup. I love Star Wars. I can't help it.

That's a foregone conclusion. There is no way that will ever succeed as the vast majority don't like the character they created. Disney tried to fix something that wasn’t broken. They had decades worth of great, widely accepted and loved source material to draw on.... it could’ve been so easy for Disney to continue Star Wars and make it bigger than ever. The stories were written for them, all they had to do was write dialogue and find actors. The work was done for them. It’s a shame. I got news for you, it's not just Star Wars! It's virtually every department! Imagineering has become an absolute joke, with their current park projects severely lacking in quality and not even close to what to came before. It's not even a decline in quality, it's almost a different product all together. Then there's the live action movies, which are just soulless versions of what came before. The animation department is almost nonexistent, with it's focus on sequel after sequel. Gone are the days of Aladdin, Lion King, and even films from Disney's dark ages like The Great Mouse Detective and The Brave Little toaster which had far more heart and creativity than anything this current leadership could offer. As a lifelong Disney fan it's almost gotten to the point where it's flat out embarrassing to say I even enjoy the companies past offerings. The company that was once known for quality and excellence has now become the McDonald's of showbiz. It's so disheartening to see the brand so damaged, it will take decades to return it's reputation, but if the current group running it continues, it may never come back, and that's sad for future generations who could have grown up with something very special like I did.

Let’s not kid ourselves-Lucas wasn’t infallible pre-Disney. His "sacrifices" for ticket sales gave us Jar Jar Binks, bumbling droid soldiers, and stormtroopers with the aim of a drunk bantha (okay, maybe that was the Force’s doing). And let’s not forget Anakin’s jarring transformation from "little Ani" to Padmé’s husband-a character arc so rushed and awkward it left a permanent cringe in the Force. Disney’s not perfect either, but experimenting with the Star Wars universe isn’t inherently bad. Their handling of Leia, Han, and Luke? Definitely disappointing-I’ll die on that hill. But they’ve had their wins too: The Mandalorian (at least the first two seasons) was a breath of fresh air, and Andor showed real promise (fingers crossed for S2). If Disney truly wants to "rescue" Star Wars, they need to stop "trying" to make great stories and just do it. As Master Yoda said, "There is no try. Only do." How? By going back to basics: focus on great storytelling. Create compelling, believable characters that audiences can genuinely connect with. Bring back the sense of awe and wonder that made Star Wars iconic. It’s not about ticking boxes or pandering to fans-it’s about telling stories that reignite our imaginations. Maybe it really is time to reach among fans and untested producers for inspiration?

The single biggest mistake Lucas made was making Anakin 9 years old in Episode 1. It throws everything out of whack. The Phantom Menace feels like a prologue. The Clone Wars start in Episode 2 and end in Episode 3 so there isn't a middle. Anakin goes from an irritatingly precious boy to a stroppy teenager and never really progresses beyond that. The relationship between the much younger Anakin and Padme caused so much consternation various writers suggested she was 16 and then only 14 in The Phantom Menace to close the gap. That's utterly non-sensical when she was an elected Queen rather than a hereditary one. No society is going to elect a child to lead anything let alone an entire planet! And with Anakin being a child in Episode 1 the romantic relationship doesn't begin until Episode 2 so it feels rushed and awkward.

Then when people pissed and moaned about Jar Jar and Anakin in TPM, he said "fuck it, I'm only gonna do two more" instead of going with his original plan - renumbering the OT to VI-VII-VIII and giving us a prologue to it after giving us FOUR prequels focusing on Anakin. But you assholes never gave the man a chance to finish what he started.

Andor season 1 was the best piece of Star Wars content since the original trilogy. Quality-wise/storytelling-wise/casting/cinematography I put it right up there with the first 3-4 seasons of Game of Thrones! The first two seasons of the Mandolorian were perfection. A fun pulpy serialized space opera that felt very George Lucus-inspired thanks to Favreau and Filoni. Rogue One is my 4th favorite Star Wars movie behind the original trilogy. So lets not act like Disney can't produce great Star Wars content when they get it right. Im not going to argue or defend any of the other shows/season or hide my lack of interest in any future movies/shows they've announced outside of season 2 of Andor. but there's a formula that can equal Disney + Star Wars = great content and storytelling. They just need to focus on quality over quanitity. When they announced what felt like 2 or 3 different series or limited series per year it sounded amazing but that was just too much content to properly produce & write and not enough time and talent to do it justice.

Star Wars has gotten to the point, where unlike other studios like Marvel or the upcoming DCU, Disney decides that Star Wars is just a cash cow and keeps on milking nothing and marketing it to us the fans as something, only for it to be shit. Disney tries diversity but forces it and makes it terrible, Star Wars fans are not racist or homophobic if the character is written well, which they fail at. I personally, feel that we need in a sense to take a break for at least 3 years, have the people in charge build a plan that is solid and then share some ideas they have for Star Wars with the fans i.e. branching out canon material outside of television and into gaming and novels [which are actually less time straining and costly compared to a $275 tv show] that's the Star Wars equivalent of the "Velma" show.

If they're going to go back to the Lucas spirit of Star Wars it should end on Ep VI. Maybe an epilogue showing what happened with the main characters and someone else going through a more personal, smaller conflict. Like Boba Fett's solving his crisis of identity, but nothing else. After Anakin brings balance to the Force, that's a messianic era there, the end of cosmos. His arrival marks the beginning of the rise of Force Ghosts, who are omniscient through time and space, so it fits. That's the end. Zahn 's motivation to write a sequel had nothing to do with understanding George Lucas' plan, he was hired to sell license products, in his case books. In fact Lucas never met nor worked with EU authors to guide their work, except a very few and only ONE of them listened to his suggestions. That was Haden Blackman for The Force Unleashed #1. George Lucas has explicitly stated to be against the ideas of Zahn in more than one occasion. And Lucas' sequels (outlines really) were written in 2012, to save his negotiations with Iger. He's said consistently through the decades that he only needed 6 movies to tell his story.

I agree, it's all about telling a good story. But they'll never get there with their current approach. They should be making stories and eventually, when a good story stands out, consider making it into a movie. Instead, they've decided "Hey, Star Wars makes money, let's make another Star Wars trilogy! Now, what should the story be..." So the story is an afterthought and is forcibly adapted to be a movie. That's why they don't work at all. Which is a damn shame.
