Why is it that every time Disney introduces new characters, they always ended up getting propped up while the legacy characters get crapped on? I really don't understand this type of mentality they have. First they ruined Luke, Han and Leia in the sequel trilogy to make room for Rey. I can see this show bombing and Ewan McGregor coming out in defense of it then the fans turning on him. I'm booking it now. It may also sour Hayden Christensen to Star Wars again. Thinking back to the trailer I remember there being very little shots of Obi so I think it's likely to be true. So if it is true then that's awful. There now seems to be a trend taking place where the main male lead character is playing second fiddle in their own shows. Witcher and now potentially Kenobi. It's like going to Pizza Hutt and they give you fish tacos instead.

While I’m entirely down to see new characters’ shows and storylines in Star Wars, why does Disney keep including these new characters within pre-existing characters’ shows/movies and overshadow these legends? The entire sequel trilogy just dumps on the arcs of all the original protagonists, Boba was rough outside of the Mando episodes, and now this with an inquisitor overshadowing Kenobi?! The reason Rogue One works so well with all new characters is because it doesn’t overshadow pre-existing characters or try to make them seem way better. It’s weird the decisions they’re making. Show us new characters and expand their stories without diminishing pre-existing stories and characters.

I hope I'm wrong and she's actually potrayed as an evil character. A few movies do it right. Gone Girl for example. They will probably give her some motivation like a Jedi accidently killed her Mum when she was a kid and the Emperor helped her bla bla bla. This is probably going to get me a lot of hate, but I did like Finn more than the rest of the ST characters, he could have been so much better if they had ran with all the effort he put into trying to become a Jedi when Rey refused, it could have confirmed the Force Unleashed universe being canon, and that it is possible to clone Jedi, since he was a clone and not an outside enlistee in the First Order. He literally did far more than the other characters did for the sake of the rebellion even was willing to sacrifice himself to stop the Death Star Cannon from breach the gate, only to be stopped by all the deadweight throughout. I agree with you that he literally could have been any other skin tone and it wouldn't have made much difference, but I think the problem with him is he could have been a much better written character than what they made him to be. Then again, I didn't watch episode 9, so I don't know what role he played in that one, but he did a lot better In The Force Awakens.

Some of the best Star Wars books I’ve read are slow. For example “Kenobi” legends novel just talks about his life in the middle of nowhere, not duels and showdowns every day. They aren’t thinking of how this show will age, if the rumors are true. This is why the prequels have gained more popularity recently than the sequels because of its awesome plot line, despite being 15 years old or more. Can you imagine the BOBF being beloved of people 15 years later? Of course not- it only wanted to get the masses to stay interested long enough for them to finish it, with a lot of flashy guns and explosions. I wish we could have stuck with what made the OT so awesome- it proved that acting and special effects wasn’t everything! To be fair, Disney started out great (CW S7, Rogue One etc) but quickly lost their goal. Shouldn’t have bought it from Lucas 😢

I don’t understand why this show needs to focus on other characters and their adventures from planet to planet at all like we’ve seen in Mando and Boba. It should follow Obi Wan and his perspective only, introspective and giving off the simple sense of a man and his struggles in a dangerous galaxy. The empire should be terrifying in the show, and since Obi Wan leaves Tatooine we should see the signs of the Jedi purge in an almost horror like way. Kenobi himself hiding in underworlds and stowing away on ships. That way, his encounter with any inquisitor or Vader has that much more weight to it. So far it seems like we’ll be following Reva when she meets Kenobi, not the other way around.

People romanticize the OG Star Wars movies too much based on their age group. My age group it’s OT, your age group it’s the prequels. But the fight choreography in the OT was trash, the Ewoks were trash. The prequels, the writing and dialogue was cringy as hell, Jar Jar, killing off Maul (not realizing he would be a fan favorite), Dooku (a boring British guy as a Sith) the list goes on. Not perfect movies. There’s things I didn’t like about the sequels, but there’s also things I loved. I think the Star Wars fan base in general will always be a “glass half empty” kind of crowd to anything new. While ignoring it was always that way even in their childhood. You just weren’t an over critical man baby as a child. You enjoyed it purely with no expectations.

Reva is not the main character She does not get a sufficient amount of screentime to get focus on her. Most episodes she places 3rd or 4th for the amount of screentime she gets. Kenobi gets more screentime than her in every single episode Leia gets more focus and screentime than her, yet nobody is calling leia the main character She is the antagonist, not the protagonist We have no idea what she's up to or what her intentions are for the first 4 episodes of the show because she is not given much focus, that goes towards kenobi We only get one episode where there is focus on her (episode 5), which is to explain her backstory. There is nothing wrong with a portion of the story to focus on the antagonist, it's part of building the story for the protagonist, especially if Obi is part of her plan to kill Vader She is literally forgotten about in episode 6 while Obi has one of his arcs of defeating Vader, until the very end when the producers remember they had to do something for her As said above, revas plan is tied to Kenobi, as he was close to Vader and blames him Kenobi is literally the title of the show and the focus in the advertising and the show, so he is the main character Obi also has arcs and growth throughout the show such as getting his jedi self back by growing confidence with the force and travelling the galaxy etc, defeating Vader, rescuing Leia, getting Leia back to alderaan, getting back to Luke to protect him, and stopping reva Although both his character arc and revas character could have been written better, the sloppy writing of both does not mean they cancel out to somehow make the antagonist the main character 🤦‍♂️😂 I honestly think there is some gender and racial bias when people exaggerate her as the main character. People just didn't like how a woman of colour had screentime so they complain about how much she got to overexaggerate it. If you don't believe, the actress got hate after the premiere when she only had 10 mins of screentime total. I also think there is this herd mentality within Fandoms that they hear someone say bs like "the show sucks, Reva is the main character" and it resonates with them only because they also dislike the show. I would recommend actually looking into what makes a good story in a film or show and what makes someone the protagonist before jumping to incorrect conclusions.

If Kenobi is going to start out incredibly dark and depressing, as he should, we need a way to get him to become ANH Kenobi. We need him to get his spark back. Kenobi always helps people and helping Reva could be his vehicle to bring him to that place. He can't help Vader, and he can't help the grand inquisitor. This character's arc could be the thing that gives him hope and holds him over until Luke grows up, and there's nothing wrong with giving her some depth. We'll get TWO Vader-Kenobi fights, we'll get depressed Kenobi, we'll get Vader. You need a reason for Kenobi to get off world, meet Vader, and grow, and that reason should have some depth to it. You can't just have 5:30 hours of sad Kenobi and Vader and then 30 minutes of fighting. It's a new story that'll require new characters, and it's better that those characters are flushed out. I think it'd be cool to see her perspective on Order 66, the Jedi, and the Inquisitors.

Her character is the only version of a black woman that they accept. Disney constantly uses this generalized character and stuck her in loki and dr strange. You guys are totally right about this character. Star Wars is dying bc of this never ending political messages in these movies. Obi Wan is being hijacked for inclusion and wokness. I knew this character was going to be problematic right when the trailer focused on her. I’m here for Vader and obi wan period. Anyone who says anything different is just a ideologue who wants their politics reflected in all of their entertainment.

I bet it's true. One thing Disney has been consistent on is letting me down when it comes to Star Wars - for ten years now. The one and only exception has been Rogue One. I certainly hope I'm wrong because I'd love to see Kenobi shine in his own show, but my gut tells me Disney still has zero idea what Star Wars fans want.

Lol (: came back to this after first two episodes of kenobi. Disney literally pre-warned the world that the fan base was going to react to this character with racism like 3 days ago after they saw all the backlash from leaks and stuff. it just goes to show how crappy disney is that they know their story telling is rotten with political agenda that isn't even blended well with the plot. I thought young leia was brilliant and don't understand why they couldn't have just done their virtue signalling through her as it would've A. made sense to the story, B. not taken away screen time from the characters we will probably not have much more of C. not have added some complete random person to the equation in the middle of a show that already has enough characters. i would absolutely have loved to see reva in her own show or even a movie. in the context of kenobi her character is garbage and it makes the actor look like she doesn't know what she's doing.

Reva is fine. Nobody complained about Krennic in Rogue One as the antagonist. Some characters need to be inserted to push characters to a certain plot point. Reva seems to be the wedge between Obi Wan and Vader. Of course they are going to focus on her she is the wedge of the story. She also may have stakes in Obi Wan and Vader arc. That doesn't make her the main character just makes her the in between of the two characters. I think their is two problems with Star Wars Fandom. Way too toxic we want things to be one way and get upset when it's another. Don't want to sound like Kathleen Kenedy but it is true to some degree sexism and racism. We are unfamiliar and uncomfortable with female leads (especially those of color) or characters that have the potential to outshine the male leads. Reva doesn't take away from the series she is to narratively enhance it. Obi Wan was essentially a hermit for nearly 20 years on a desert planet. She is the main reason he goes off world etc. Let's just stop complaining and enjoy the fact we get to see Obi Wan again let's face it him being back in itself is a blessing as the Fandom is already divided on him confronting Darth Vader before the TNH you just can't please the Fandom they will find any and every means to bitch and complain.

You guys were spot on when you said that people are both very excited and utterly afraid that this show ends up ruining Star Wars and the characters that we know and love. Worst case scenario the Kenobi show is the Reva show, where they use old character's clout to introduce their new people no one cares about. Worst is if she was a diversity hire for diversity's sake, not for the sake of the story or universe. I've got nothing against people's skin color, but we all know that companies have quotas and agendas with race, just look at Amazon's race audit going on right now. Not just that, but they have cultural, sexual, and social agendas too. Worst case is Disney wanted to push these ideas instead of just making a good Star Wars story. These kind of rumors make me want to just sit the show out and wait till its done to see if it sucked or not. If it did suck, I'd want to watch the dumpster for myself later to see exactly how they ruined it, and what could have been better. If its good, I'll tell my people and we can watch and support it.

My only worry with Reva, this isn't a problem of her being a woman of color, that shouldn't be an issue in a show, but I am worried about the way they could be trying to present it as. I'm worried that it's a decision driven by nothing more than forced represetation. Creative decisions and casting should be decided by character and the talent of the actor, not by the color of their skin, and I think that goes both ways. If it is for the purpose of representing a black woman.. I just don't want that to be motivated by some cold executive decision where they have to check off representation on their checklist for the show. That's just as bad as intentionally overlooking your black castmembers. They really obviously didn't care about Finn when they cast Boyega for him, put him on the posters and trailers and tried to coax us in with the promise of representation only to subject him to more racism. Was Boyega cast for a character named Finn, or was he cast for a _black_ character named Finn? That's my main concern for Reva. This is an idea that is good, but the way that these big companies deal with it turns that good into numbers again. So.. is this their only motivation? We may never know. Edit: and here's the other problem with "representation" and how it's more of a trap as Josh said. An individual's identity shouldn't revolve around whether they are a man/woman or black/white/green/blue. Not the color of their skin, that does not decide the person. So when the writers strip a character down for the purpose of representation and that's the sole motivation for writing that character, you're making the mistake of writing, not the character, but a "black character" or a "woman character" and you're doing it for the wrong reasons so you're ultimately doing a disservice. It shouldn't be color first, character second. I want an interesting nuanced character where the color doesn't matter, that character is a relatable person. But I don't want them to be relatable to me on a surface level. I want them to be relatable on a HUMAN level. Edit2: this is a crazy topic and I just broke down my two-second thoughts on it in a KZbin comment. Take _my_ take with a grain of sand.

From what I’m hearing, the plot sounds like a lot like Hawkeye. The show markets it’s main character as Obi-Wan, but will undoubtably be the side female character. Just like with Clint Barton.

I don't really have a 'head canon' for "Star Wars". There's really two canons for Star Wars though; George's canon and Disney's canon, and the only one that matters for me is George's. The series will probably be a disaster.

For me as far as villains go (in no particular order): Davy Jones (Pirates 2-3), The Joker (TDK), Commodus (Gladiator), Hans Gruber (Die Hard), Director Krennic (Rogue One), Darth Vader (RotS / OT) The Vulture (Spooderman: Homecoming) and recent one, The Riddler (The Batman). A hero is only as good as the villain, the best ones challenge the hero in a personal way by targeting their deepest weakness / fear. The best villains also don't always want the hero dead as their primary goal, but humiliated, exposed, broken, ect. And they also (save maybe Vader) don't want to rule the world.
