I’ve bought maybe 4 albums on vinyl in the last 5 years, I’m a CD collector. When I look at an album that’s over $30 I remember why I like CDs more.

I’m back to buying CDs and Cassettes 🙄. Last year I realized I was missing out on a lot of great music that is not available on vinyl. So I hooked up a 5 disc CD player and a dual cassette deck to my Marantz system. Now my goal is to do to my vinyl collection as I would to a wine reduction sauce. Reduce reduce reduce until I get a concentrated richness of flavor. Less records but richer quality. Great topic, Steve.

Great video. The only thing stopping me from over collecting vinyl has been how expensive it is for one album, especially for catalog releases. It’s actually made me start collecting CD again. Between $1-$5 for a used Cd vs $30 for vinyl record of the same album😅 Go Rams! 🐏
@STEVEHEROLD7 ай бұрын
yeh its gotten crazy. people who used to complain about spending $16 on a new CD now dont think twice about $40-50 on a new vinyl album. thanks for tuning in! losing AD was a blow but i think Rams will have a great season.

In the 90s I was forced into CDs as I could no longer find vinyl. I had 1000s of CDs. Now I stick with vinyl as I have always loved the medium. Purging is not easy but it is good to do. I purged. Large boxes of records for credit. I got some stuff I really wanted in their place
@TheAlanRosenbergShow7 ай бұрын
That was a great video Steve. Impressed you've cut down on purchasing, yet still going out looking (which really is the fun part - the hunt). I'm trying to buy less, but not really working. Especially as we head into flea market / yard sale season. But I'm trying. I purged my vinyl collection over the decades by replacing the vinyl with nice remastered CD's with bonus tracks, and then dump the vinyl. My vinyl collection is down to around 500 albums, which is small compared to around 5,000 CD's. I rarely listen to vinyl. I have a backlog of around 50 vinyl albums I haven't gotten to. CD's are just easier to play, plus I play them in the car. And frankly, and I've demonstrated it in my house when friends are over. At least on my system (vintage 80's equipment), most digitally remastered CD's sound better than the vinyl, even original first pressing vinyl. It's not cool to say that....but it's true. Anyway, great video as always.

I dont go to record store day but am this wknd cause im on road near one of my fave stores and theyre having sale all used 40% off plus 25¢ sidewalk sale. i cant pass that up so im gonna brave the crowds. but hope i still can keep my will power in check.

Growing up in the 90s, vinyl had already run its course.... when I was a little kid, my kid music was on cassette tapes, but by the time I discovered rock, cd was the thing, and that's when my CD collecting started. Fast forward to 2021 and I had kinda given up on collecting physical media for about 5 or so years. It was actually my wife's idea to get a record player which I never had before, so we got one and my record collecting began. On top of that, I revitalized my CD collecting as well. I love both vinyl and CD but CD is more versatile, I can play it in the car, at home, put it on my computer etc. Vinyl is nice to sit back and enjoy when I get the chance but I don't always get the chance lol

yeh brian it’s so weird how that CD purge i did just made something click and has really got me approaching purchases way different these days. one of the bigger things i don’t think i mentioned in the video is it helped me rediscover albums i haven’t listened to in years. before i left for this long road gig i was pulling out older albums every day to listen to and enjoying it. even stuff like Peter Gabriel’s So that i’ve heard a million times but haven’t probably sat and listened to since the early 90s. This weekend will be the big test. I’m gonna attend record store day cause the store near where I’m working i love and are having a crazy 40% off all used CDs/vinyl.

Holy crud, you make me feel like a horrible failure of a person. :) I got back into vinyl around this time 2017, so we're at the 8 years mark - and my collection is over 2500 pieces. I will say I have become much, much more selective since the beginning of the year. Lots of flipping, less bringing home, especially the cheap thrift stuff that "would be nice to have" simply to collect. Been focusing on things I really want and feel I will really listen to. I even did a small purge and took a stack to my local store. They only bought 25 pieces of the 75 offered (it was some obscure bands), but letting any go was a big leap for me.
@STEVEHEROLD7 ай бұрын
hey jeff sorry to make ya feel horrible hahaha….. but we are on the same page it sounds like in regards to purchases this year. something really clicked for me when i purged those CDs a few months ago. i’ve turned down a lot of buys that i easily would’ve bought a year ago. this weekend will be the big test cause for the first time since 2017 i’ll be going to record store day. i’m working near one of my favorite shops and they’re having a great sale of 40% off all used vinyl/CDs so I can’t resist. we’ll see. thanks for tuning in dude.
