I'm curious to see how the smaller weapons handle this, or if they have some context sensitive dodge/QTE effect for them that replaces the block mechanic that larger weapons like GS, Hammer, Charge Blade & Switch Axe can use. I feel like the lances would fit in that larger weapon category, with LS, DB, Bow, IG, S&S, & LGB as lighter weapons. The only one I don't know which it would fit in with would be HBG, because it should be a more mobile-like weapon, but at the same time HBG *definitely* feels like it's weighty enough to block a monster biting down on it

I definitely think they'll probably have different skills, based on the weapon, with some crossover of course, but it should be interesting how each of these weapon skills manifest, to achieve roughly the same effect.

IMO the synth and electric instrumental are used for thunder affinity monsters like zinogre or astalos (but then rajang, lagi, Kirin are not represented with it,so it's not a solid argument) maybe in this case represents the electric storm aproaching and could be an elder dragon related to it.

With the ideas of elemental affinities having an impact on the environment, wouldn't it be super cool if each area had its own theme, but the "flavor" of the composition would change based on the element represented? If you're fighting an electric monster, or if the weather is lightning, you'll get more electronic flourishes in the soundtrack. Or if you're fighting and ice type monster, or there's snow, you'll get more twinkling instruments and plucked strings. Same song, just different arrangements?

I’m really happy the main character is voiced! I do think though we will get to create our character. I think we can make a male or female hunter, and pick a voice actor. We were able to do so in Rise and the only difference was our hunter didn’t talk in the cutscenes. That always bothered me so it’s cool to see it like this! Hogwarts Legacy was a great example of having a deep narrative with a voiced main character that we designed. As far as MHWilds goes the other characters will likely call our character simply “hunter” or come up with some sort of nickname. Either way there is sooooo much to be excited about, but it’s great to see we can finally have a VOICE in cutscenes with other characters talking haha.

Yeah, they did that in Persona 3 Reload as well, with "Leader", even though you don't even get to create a character. In World, the Handler would call you Partner, so I could definitely see some generic name used in the voice lines. Voiced characters is great and all, but we had that in prior Monster Hunters as well. What you're calling attention to here (and my love of seeing the Palicoes voiced too) is really ambitious to bring in from a game design perspective because if we're going down a more narrative / cinematic path with Wilds? There may be branching conversation choices, or multiple choices in a conversation to have, not unlike Bioware or Larian games.

@@CoyoteWildfire Yeah I wonder about the branching choices; if I had to put money on it they probably won’t, but time will tell. And you are right our hunter was voiced in Rise Sunbreak during gameplay (generic shoutouts and phrases) but I don’t think he was ever able to speak during cutscenes which seemed odd to me. I get some people like the silent protagonist approach but it always broke the immersion for me. Why would there be a random mute dude nodding along to voiced conversations haha. Switching topics though, what are your thoughts on the website saying the name of the first hunting “locale” do you think that deconfirms a fully open world? Or maybe you unlock parts of the map with distinct names as you progress the story and the map gets bigger and bigger?

My only problem with voiced characters is when they are supposed to be us, and we can't control what they say, inevitably leading to them saying/doing things completely different than what we would do and making them no longer us. If it's something like Hogwarts Legacy where we can pick from a variety of phrases then it could be alright. Really that's the only worry I have for the game right now, and everything else looks great (Chatacabra is best boy, and deserves to be the star of a new ailment like Dodogama was for Blast).

It was a big surprise to see this at the state of play and I really like what they've shown. I hope the seikret is customizable like palicos were in world and rise. I really like the chatacabra, it looks like a fun low tier monster. Can't wait for Summer Games Fest and I wonder what Wild's flagship would be or when it will be revealed.

On the character front, the main website already shows the Hunter in both male and female versions, so it's definitely not as "fixed" as you might think. Also, customizable voiced narrative characters have been a thing in forever in a lot of RPG's, like with various Bioware games e.g. Mass Effect.

OHHH, I was just talking about this in another comment--FANTASTIC mention! Being able to play male or female, or having customizable characters makes sense to me, and it's also possible that this "main character" here could be like the Warrior of Light is represented in Final Fantasy XIV where the promotional material has a particular character and style, but we as players create our own within this world. Would absolutely LOVE to see customized voice narratives like Bioware or even Larian games included in Wilds. Although I'm doubtful it's going the entire branching-paths / full-autonomy route like Baldur's Gate 3 did.

A Little interesting thing I noticed is that when alma talks about the ceratonoth herd she says "wow I've never heard of a ceratonoth herd this big before!" Meaning that this isn't the guilds or research commissions first time being in the forbidden lands/windswept plains. Which leads me into a theory about the games story and what we're trying to do, here it goes. There was a group or fleet of explorers tasked with mapping and exploring as much as possible of a brand new undiscovered location called the forbidden lands after they were done they would return and give the guild all of the information they collected, but when they returned there was only a handful of the explorers left on the ship, one of which is Nata the son of two explorers that disappeared alongside a majority of others. The guild then sends the research commission to uncover the mystery of the explorers mysterious disappearance. Do you think my theory is close to being accurate to the games story Mr coyotewildfire?

Oh I certainly think your ideas have promise! If they're familiar with the Ceratonoth, just not in such volume, then clearly the guild has come across them before. But we as players haven't seen them before... so it stands to reason that they're local to the area. Based on the emotions teased and the bits of storyline cutscene we got, it certainly appears that someone, or some people, are missing. and we're searching for them. Whatever happened seems to have created a need for rescue... I've mentioned ideas before, where Capcom might go a bit more heavily-narrative approach in Wilds. Between your comment, and what we've gotten in the trailer, I really feel like rescue is going to be the theme of the main plot, and plenty of exploration to pad it all out with.

Yup, I did see that! As BadEnd98 mentioned, Semi-Open like how FF7 Rebirth or FF16 is a big possibility here. Additionally, it's possible to have multiple locales or biomes represented on a fully open world map, with specific areas reserved as "hunting grounds". Hard to say *exactly* how it'll manifest, but I'm confident Capcom is leaning further toward the open world model than away from it.

You might not have to leave Insect Glaive, depending on how they do it, you could wind up wedging the glaive in it's mouth and shooting out like a focused Kinsect or something to knock it back. Just like I'm sure the Great Sword will have more than just holding it in place.

The counter/riposte combat was in world already though maybe to a lesser degree. If you hit devilhjo or anjanath while they were mid attack sequence you can actually knock them up and back causing the camera to pan out and them to thrash around on the ground for a moment. Very specific conditions though. Must hit the face really hard while they are doing a wind up attack.

@@CoyoteWildfire Not for trad MH fans tho...(Even if I am) But you seriously can't stay where you are and have to improve. Besides, Action RPGs/Adventure games ALWAYS need good stories. The genre is just meant for it. That was one of the gripes I had with old MH games. It had a well crafted world with no explanation. Which is what made old games campaigns boring after a certain amount of time. Not all games need stories but certain genres do. And all games that won GOTY's from recent memory all had great stories so for Wilds to try another crack at it, it is absolutely MANDATORY to have a good story.

I'm a couple days late on this but holy smokes I didn't know I needed all that in my life. One of the Palicoes on the ship behind the smithy and handler looks like it's carrying a longsword and walking with a handler. Palico solo hunters confirmed?? The scene where it was paused to talk about the riposte you can see spit coming out of the other monsters mouth and dang are those fluid mechanics good. Looks like a sand snake/leviathan did the sand whirlpool and was thrown during that cinematic type scene. Also did that transition from cinematic into gameplay seamlessly? If the frog monster doesn't have multiple camouflage patterns it can appear as I'll be disappointed and my day ruined. But seriously I could easily see a subspecies of that existing that as a poison dart frog type thing. First area transition scene from lush to desolate had a baby pukei-pukei looking monster. Also the monster flying kinda looks like a Bishaten body so maybe flying monkey? Crocodile/Alligator ambush predator from the water = Lagiacrus is so totally back. That flag for this fleet 100% plays into the logo with the 4 large circles with distinctly different heads and the flag with 4 distinct quadrants. Gotta work on my compass theory some but I'm going to say it's 4 locales and the 2 large snakes intertwined are related to the lush/desolate change instead of actual monsters. The huge broken circles are a mystery to me still but seem very important in some way. With it being confirmed that each locale has 2 conditions I'm going to have to work on my locale speculations too. All this theory/speculation work is gonna have to wait until after SGF because I feel like another trailer/announcement is coming with more info.

But you're right on the money, the transitions in and out of cutscenes appeared seamless and fluid. That was honestly a really nice touch, and should further bolster the seamlessness that Capcom is going for here. Dart Frog monsters... oh joy, more poison LMAO. Crocodile/Alligator ambush predator. ;) Now you're talking. But the flag portion, now THAT I was looking forward to hearing you talk on. The moment it was neatly separated into four quadrants I thought about what you said on the compass. Clearly 4 is going to play a role in numerical symbology with Wilds--and I'm willing to bet there's going to be quite a lot of callbacks to 4U in this game.

Heres a theory: in the trailer, gemma talked about finding some people. We have this theory that gemma is the little miss forge and that the guild master is the ace lancer. I was thinking, could it be that the people gemma spoke of that we have to find is the ace commander and the ace gunner? And then theres a boy named nata, which is similar to how the ace gunner look. Could it be that nata is the ace gunner's son and that nata is actually trying to find her mom? Also, that girl on the ground with her seikret in chatacabra's cutscene seems like the ace gunner

The music has me so hype for Wilds. Nothing feels more cool than epic combat with a bumping soundtrack! It was either Palabo or Chocomute for me, but some others suggested Palociraptor, which I thought was hella cool. I wonder where the name Seikret comes from… By the way, if you’re not spending at least the first few hours of a game in the character creator, are you even playing an RPG??? So, Alma? She definitely gives me librarian energy. Shame the “dating sim” tag on the game doesn’t let us romance her or Gemma. 😂

i'm so hyped for the new sand swimming... looks like a leviathan. here's hoping they either fixed the skeleton issues, for leviathans and snake wyverns or decided not to wait and just put those monsters in flatter zones so the maps would have a mix of zones with and without elevation. i mean, we'll always have our mount so we can do jump attacks off it whenever we want. it would be weird if there was no mounting, i doubt that is the case. none the less, it's a potential work around to the issues that 5th gen ran into with those 2 monster classifications/skeletons. i love that our first 2 monsters are in underrepresented categories, one is a bear/fanged beast and the other is an amphibian that has like the rajang/garangolm skeleton. looking forward to some fantastic monster design and variety in this game. they've said on the official site that it is locales like the past games. that they each have these 3 states of vibrant, scarcity, and some form of natural disaster. looking forward to the tundra and volcano. this is likely just you can initiate quests organically on the map without a quest board if you want. i still don't believe it's open world and the official site info supports my theory but we'll know more in a few days.

I definitely feel like they've done a *lot* to polish up the movements from what we've seen in the trailers. Clearly they've invested a lot of time taking the frames of prior monsters and combat and continued to polish them, which is absolutely fantastic to see. But from what you mention about the "states" of each of the locales, it almost sounds to me like each area (whether open world or not) will have a variant that matches each of the biomes we're used to. So instead of a locale being dedicated to a specific biome, each locale will "rotate" biomes... It's possible we may still get locales dedicated to particular biomes, but it really appears to me like they're trying to ensure that a map or locale has variety to it, more than just night and day.

I feel like there might be a lenient window on the parry that even newbies can feel badass, BUT the monster does not stagger. It only staggers when you time it correctly. That way it can please both audiences and encourage beginners to get better. This is just my speculation though and it may just be a timed attack with a narrow window lol.

@CoyoteWildfire apparently from Ragegamingvideos. There is a video on the possibilities of leviathans and/or snake wyverns returning in wilds. Might be worth looking into. I also noticed the scene he was talking about. At first, I thought the monster thrown was a deviljho for some reason.😂 🤣

Yes, absolutely! It's some sort of lizard type monster. Initially, I thought it might have been Zinny's tail, but in a few frames afterward, you see the Doshaguma throw the monster to the ground. All we see is the underbelly...

This game has to be based on africa because it looks like we have a nile crocodile and those herd creatures look like pangalins and the creature that was attacked by the crocodile creature looks like a wilderbeast.
