SIR uses the same standard track gauge as the subway. All of the mods made to the car were so that it could run sandwiched in between two locomotives while maintaining trainline between the two.

The BL20 series locomotive is actually slightly lower than standard locomotives to fit inside of Grand Central Terminal. Its a standard product. There is no need to order something custom.
