I started seeing vultures on Staten Island almost 2 years ago. They gather on chimneys to stay warm in the winter. Last winter there were a lot more, like 3 to 4 times more than the previous year. I'm way more scared of the turkeys attacking me than the vultures. The vultures eat roadkill.

They look scary to ignorant people. They're beautiful birds. just adding to that list of reasons I can't stand people, vultures are actually docile , and bond for life as a family.. and the only way they can fend for..themselves is by puking on an agesssor. What has infested the planet are humans taking over , leaving piles of garbage , allow their pets to get lost and hit by cars, hitting other animals. Black vultures only eat carcass of dead animals and out of dumpsters and any garbage slobs leave lying around.

@@MiamiBeachNativeInNYC wow, I didn't know that! That's very interesting and I'll go look up why they do that. Thanks for that information 👍

@@MiamiBeachNativeInNYC I stand corrected! I deleted part of my comment because I read about vultures after reading what you wrote and they can be very destructive and have been known to damage roof tiles.

I have seen these birds share a meal with cats… For years in no way would they ever… I mean I’m surprised you didn’t emphasize that it’s ridiculous to think they would go after live pray they’re very cool birds except they shit all over everything and it’s heartbreaking to think they’re so hungry they’re eating roof tiles…. It’s almost as if we’ve killed off so much of the wildlife there’s that much less roadkill… But vultures play a very important role in the cycle of life…

Oh man, that's spooky. I wonder of they sense something? So many wouldn't just settle there unless there was a good source of food in the area (or coming 😱).

Just yesterday I saw a mated pair while visiting a local tea shop. I thought they were beautiful. Also saw them get cuddly. Apparently they are nesting on a local businesses roof and the shop owners see them all the time.
