This kinda close harmony, high steppin', foot stompin', ear grinin', glorified gospel singin' will never go outta style!! We need more groups consecrated to the Lord's service like these pioneers of southern gospel were!

From L - Right it's Jake Hess - Lead, Denver Crumpler - Tenor, Hovie Lister - Baritone, Big Chief - Bass, Doy Ott at the Piano. Personally I love to hear hovie sing.

I read somewhere that Elvis listed Jake Hess as a big influence on his singing voice and you can definitely hear the resemblance in Jake's performance here!

Brother Jake Hess's enthusiasm just is so infectious and exudes in every performance for his Master and King!! He truly loved what he did...singing with a smile on his face...he did this until he reached that old "Landmark"...the Golden shores of the Crystal Majestic City built by God !!

I wish I could learn to play the piano like Doy or Hovie, but I'm guessing if I went to a piano teacher, they would be like "You want to play like who?"

I saw them as a kid at our church. But, Denver was gone before I was born. But I remember the Big Chief, Hovie and Jake.

I knew Doy was a great piano player and that he started in the gospel music field as a piano player but this is the first Statesman video that I have seen where Doy played the whole song. He was a great singer and so very talented as an arranger and musician. Thanks much for posting.

Jake was one of my family's favorite! We saw him many times from the 50's through the 70's and he always called me Hoss. One of the best that has ever been!

The Famous (Clara) Ward Singers were known for their arrangement of this song...this was actually one of their standard concert songs, that they would end their concerts with. Other people have variations of it too.

I was born in '71, so my first time to hear of the Statesmen were the Gaither videos & the Documentary Bill did. The harmony they had was unique, The showmanship, stage prescence, still can't be matched, even w/the new groups of today.
