Yup, just did it- & it's kinda scary to 0 everything out (volume and pan), but followed your directions and it sounds so much better than if I’d skipped this step! Thank you!!

Yes, I've been doing static mixes, but not by turning everything down to zero. I've just muted every channel and then started by turning the drums down to where they are just barely showing yellow on the master volume control. Then bringing everything else in line and slowly moving things down a decible at a time till it's not clipping according to the master volume. Your way of doing it makes much more sense so I will try that in the future.

Hi quick question, I noticed before you began the static mix you took off the mvmeter 2 plugin...I thought we needed that for gain ? when you remove that does it undo the gain staging changes you made previously after recording? thanks in advance!
@tonylewis1803 Жыл бұрын
You also gain staged as well, yes? The channel's great. Thanks.

Thank you so much for these videos. When doing the static mix should you turn off any effects you have on your vocals? I noticed you only had a channel eq on yours but what if you have other plug ins to get the "Sound" you like such as noise gate, auto tune, compressor, spreader, channel eq. Should these go on before or AFTER the static mix is established? Thanks so much
@kevinlee149 Жыл бұрын
What about parallel reverb, compression and distortion tracks added to the drums, as explained in one of your earlier videos? Certainly you wouldn't get rid of those before making the static mix, correct?

So I’ve been watching lots of vids about gain staging and they are saying keep your faders at Zero and aim for -18 as an average …using clip gain / gain plugins to get there . Btw I’m in Cubasis on my IPad however I have a Mac and have been following this series of vids from the 1 episode . Def have a much more comprehensive understanding on GB now . The limitations in Cubasis are …the way the compressors are mapped out . Yes I have RoughRider3 however after watching SonicScoop podcasts ..Whilst I’m learning to hear compression some way of seeing gain reduction is missing ….The plugins you suggested are ideal and I recognise the models they are designed around . The lack of groups in Gb is annoying and I’ve figured out a way of getting separate drum kit elements duplicate all drum tracks and then delete the notes you don’t want so …all notes get deleted save for the kick …on the kik channel ..etc etc .. I’ve also been learning about top down mixing … Mixing through a bus compressor . I’ve downloaded the buster which ofc is modelled on the SSL Master bus compressor . So I will be watching the rest of these very informative and explanatory Series of vids . Man big up to you for doing all this …..for FREE 👍👍👍

Question, should I also turn off the pedals effects on my guitars for the static mix?
@stuartwatson3648 Жыл бұрын
Your channel is amazing. I am gong to try remix a few tracks and create an EP. I am conscious of volumes now. What I wondered was I have a track which sounds good (all volumes and pans set). The highest Peak volume is -8.6. I aim to move all volumes up so the highest is around -6 to -3 as suggested. Question - Can I find the track with the peak of e.g. -8.6 and as adding 5.6 will get to -3, then simply add 5.6db to each track volume value to get to the idea master peak but without having to do all volumes (starting with slider all the way to the left)?
@danielgreen44849 ай бұрын
After my initial recording of several tracks, I want to reduce the volume of a couple of tracks. I move the volume sliders to the left and hit Save. However, when I hit Play, the sliders jump back to the right as if I hadn’t adjusted them at all. What’s the cure?

Hi Colin. I love all your videos and they have been so...helpful. A question. I am using powered JBL monitors that are connected to the external headphone jack. What volume do you recommend? I usually set it at 3/4ths of the way to full. What do you suggest?

Colinyour videos’s are great. I have an issue. I’m following your video on Static Mix and i do everything as you state. However, when i turn all my volumes down and remove all plugins…once i start to begin my mix…when i stop and go back to the beginning of the song, all of my volumes go back to where they were. I turned them all doen but they seem to go back to the levels when i stop song or move my tracker…Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Ralph- Sounds like you have volume automation on your tracks! You'll have to delete that before you can adjust the volumes (a big reason I wait until the end to apply automation)
