Stationeers Farming update No.3 - 1/12/2022

Today we are having a look at the final part of the farming update. No more waiting for randow mustations in the plants as we now have the tools to destabilise genes and encourage mutation along with the ability to splice the good genes into a super plant. All this and a few other little gems from the Farming update 3.

Seems like genetics is geared for the long game... By the time you finish mutating a plant, you don't need better tolerances on your current planet. But they would be incredibly useful if you rocket off for the next planet.

This is true. After the first update, I thought this is too troublesome to bother but now that the gene destabiliser allows you to speed up the process, it might be more practical. Or as you say, it is good preparation for the next planet.

How do you feel the farming update compares to the food rebalancing mod you were running? Without having numbers, It feels like they both give you similar length growth times.

yes, the biggest thing the food rebalance mod does is decrease the amount on nutrition most foods give (and re-balances them so different strategies are viable). This makes it essential to grow a large amount of food. Plant grow times are basically untouched now just fern and potato are extended.

The farming update has just changed the growth times. The rebalanced nutrition changes a lot more. Growth time, water consumption, nutrition so it is still more challenging than the vanilla. It also changes the drinking mechanic so you dont have to drink every few minutes.

How far can you actually push the limits of the plants? Have they set a maximum, or can you make plants grow outside on venus eventually?

I don't know. If the max and min are hard coded then it can't be done. But Elmo has a mod that allows you can terraform planets so it might be possible that way.

you can always buy biomass from the trader, it's quite cheap!
