I think the reason why you need nitrogen filter if you breathe from canister is because, the nitrogen stays in the suit and cannot be pushed into waste tank. What I don't understand is, it seems there's no oxygen poisoning in this game. IRL breathing 100% oxygen could kill you.

wait. -26 is considered too low? I've been outside in -50 degree weather and I can very much say that while it isnt pleasant you very much can breathe still

I am not sure how the calculation is done. All I know if when the temperature changes the pressure changes which can be a reason why you are dying. From my experience you can breath low temperature if the pressure is high, but if the temperature goes up so does the pressure and you might blow a hole in your base. It seems 100KP at 290k-300k is safe to breath and plants don't die.

you've been outside in -50deg Celsius?? wow that's impressively cold. keep in mind the air you were breathing was likely getting *consistently* warmed up very quickly inside your lungs because you were wearing warm clothing which allowed your body to conserve heat, so it could *create* heat quickly enough to maintain temperature despite the heat loss to cold air. in Stationeers, it doesn't simulate clothing's thermal inertia or insulation - as soon as you open your visor, you are instantly fully "outside" and your skin temperature is literally what the external temp and pressure readout says. you're effectively naked in those air conditions. imo in that context, -26deg being dangerously (if not necessarily "unbreathably") cold makes sense

@@gloverelaxis Yeah, as it turns out northern Canada can get a wee bit chilly. Sucks even more when you have an outdoor job lol

have a (stupid?) question: I cannot find the recipe to build canisters (e.g. for oxygen). In hydraulic pipe bender I can build liquid canisters, gas tank storage, etc. But no gas canisters... Must I research that first?

try the hydraulic pipe bender. it's a crafting station you can build in the auto lathe. I haven't done much with the research system but unless you turn it on it's off be default.

@@deadmemegamming I tried the hydraulic pipe bender ( see above) but I can only build lots of liquid stuff, not for gas. No canisters, no tanks. I activated research, but gas handling should be basics?! So it should be there?!

I was expecting a explaination of how to make a medical pill there as well, if anyone is interested I made one the other day: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpKwo3evot2UidU Do you know how much air the player uses per day on adverage like in actual mols to stay alive? I know the temperature of hotter environments will cause a much faster drain on the tank but the O2 is still there in the waste. Curious how many mols is used though.

I don't math that hard, but from what I understand the more you move around the more 02 you use so it's hard to say.

OHHHHHHH i see now: if you don't send the nitrogen you're exhaling into the waste tank, it stays in the helmet volume whereas the pressure from oxygen has been removed (because it's now CO2, and got sent to waste). the fresh tank doesn't know there's now a nitrogen-rich mixture in your helmet, and the mixture it sends into your helmet is the same ratio as it always was. the nitrogen stays in your helmet, and that's raising the "exterior" pressure pushing back against the fresh tank pressure. so each time you breathe out, you're making the helmet mixture ratio more and more nitrogen-rich until the nitrogen pressure is so high, it stops the fresh tank (whose output pressure is being regulated, so it can only push out up to a certain kPa) from being able to release enough total gas, and thus enough absolute oxygen. you *would* get enough oxygen if the fresh tank was using a pump, always sending in a constant amount of gas, but then it would overpressurise your helmet. i wonder if this means, in an emergency where you have too much helmet nitrogen, you could raise your fresh tank regulator pressure to an uncomfortable high pressure that would at least contain enough oxygen to breathe in the short term? thank you SO much for this video, i've been banging my head against the wall for hours. i wish i'd just ONCE thought to inspect the contents of my waste tank!

sounds like if you flush the contents of your helmet/suit it would temporarily fix it because then it would get rid of that Nitrogen and new oxygen can come in your suit (just got this game a few days ago, very much still a noob)
