when i used to live in the old station. an old guy used to turn up every now and again. he was a relative of the station master for wenvoe. he told me that there were very few passenger trains stopping at wenvoe. as it was mainly a coal route. but he did say he had the name plates from a class 52 "western" so he was a hero to me 😁

The canopy looks pretty much bang on. Great job given the reference material available. Resin printing rather than FDM would be the way to go for the ironwork. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Shaping up nicely! The actual model's going to be an elegant building when finished. I wonder what the original architect would think of the tribute to his work. The computer design tools at your disposal would probably amaze him.

Merry Christmas. Great video again. My observation of the canopy is it looks very good size wise and the pitch looks right, the only thing that struck me was the columns/posts they would not be on the outside edge but under the ridge. This because they would obstruct the carriage doors. On the original station they would be fine but on your layout I think they would be set back as I said. Just a bit more 3D printing from your friend.

Dear Julian, thanks for the video. Thoughtfull as always. Your station will be more like the original than the original ever was I assume. You are doing so detailed on everything, nobody could ever proove it not to be exact. The builders would have paid you for your excellent drawings + the model, even the mockup. Enjoy the holidays and my best wishes for 2025 to you and your family and friends. Best Albrecht

It varies in UK on the drip from the canopy edge as to if it falls on the cess through the station, or just set back a bit and onto the platform ( there might be a box gutter running along the "front" edge (and rear) of the canopy so the only rain is from that hitting the front down pointing weatherboard fasica strip

Julian, You may or may not be aware that columns and the like must be set back 6 feet (24mm) from the platform edge. I’m not sure whether or not this bothers you. Just saying. Great work though. Cheers, Harold (Queensland)
@henrybest40572 күн бұрын
That set back rule is to prevent the opening doors of carriages from hitting the columns and to allow free passenger (and luggage) ingress and exit.

there must have been some passengers to create such facilities in the first place

Hi Julian. Even as a mock-up, it looks awesome! My worry (for the real-world version) is that the canopy supporting stations may have obstructed the carriage doors.

looks like its going to be amazing- as for laser cutting, this is something I have just got into having recently acquired a machine, so far I can say the kerf is around 0.1mm and in doing tests with 1.8mm plywood I was able to cut parallel lines spaced at 0.3mm and still leave a web of wood between the lines (albeit a very thin one) parts cut to the same size fit together well (ie tabbed parts leave just enough room for glue and fit snugly) so no major kerf allowance required, if your drawings are correct and fit, the parts will fit just as well.

Wow Julian, your mock-ups are better constructed than my finished buildings. Just one thing that took my eye and by all means disregard my comment, but the canopy columns seem a little too close to the platform edge. I'd move then back towards the station building so that intending 4mm scale passengers don't bump into them when getting off their train.
@garylong75992 күн бұрын
Julian looks good however I think the columns look a little close to the edge of the platform, there always was a lateral clearance to objects away from the platform edge to allow coaching stock to come into the station with the doors open and passengers ready to jump out as soon as the train stops. I will look into my records and let you know the dimension the same would apply to the short height wall at the end of you platform in your video into clip to your videos
@LaurenceHoward-f4h3 күн бұрын
Thanks for the Timelapse at the start, it must have taken ages in reality. Just an observation, the mock up looks wonderful, but on your platform what is the clearance to the platform edge from your posts?. In scale would they be far enough back to allow a passenger to stand in front of one or to have clearance of an opened coach door?. Difficult to tell the dimension. If it’s too close you can obviously change the location of the post in the girder, whilst keeping it as is for the model of the owners. Fascinating stuff as always, how did you know the mathematical calculations to cut the thin slither from the canopy to get the right angles…… incredible! Merry Christmas to you and your family Julian.

What application do you use to produce the scaled drawings? - Fantastic to see you doing such deep diving research to replicate the full sized station building. Really enjoying the videos documenting the build process. Hope you are having a wonderful Christmas Julian

Merry Christmas Julian. I was looking at the last video and it appeared that the canopy covered the gents room entrance. You can see the old cutoffs of the "I beams" that are visible in the photo. I know their is no photo of the canopy in that area, I was wondering if you had noticed the same?
@highpath47763 күн бұрын
can you do a time stamp for that, thanks

@@highpath4776 At 21:57 he shows the door bricked up if you look closely you will see two red "bricks" with the metal L beams just above and to each side of the bricked up doorway.

Julian how would rainwater on canopy running back towards building be handled. Would there be internal guttering or would inside side of canopy slope from center to both ends.
