When the first place is equal to the sum of the second and third places, a term is born, overcapacity.

If Hong Kong SAR exports are added to China's exports, that "overcapacity" is even more impressive (or alarming). Unlike Singapore, which still has a diverse high end manufacturing as well as services based economy, Hong Kong shifted away from manufacturing products many decades ago. I'm old enough (late 70s) to remember when most childrens' toys sold in NA were made in Hong Kong and Japan. Today, they are nearly all made in China (along with almost everything else), and Shenzhen has replaced much of Hong Kong's role as an East Asian financial services center, as other port facilities along the Pearl River have gradually displaced Hong Kong's role as an export facility.

@@motherlandbot6837 Shenzhen? You mean Shanghai? Shenzhen focuses on manufacturing
@motherlandbot6837Сағат бұрын
@AndrewManook Yes. Shanghai had a big head start over other Chinese cities as a financial services center, but multiple cities (including Beijing) have gradually displaced (and are continuing to displace) Hong Kong role as a financial center.
