STATUE REPAIR - PRIME 1 STUDIO BATMAN DAMNED

In todays video we take a look at how to repair the Prime 1 Studio Batman Damned 1/3 scale statue. With a broken leg, we will be epoxy glueing a metal rod into his boot and sculpting missing pieces using Apoxy sculpt. Finally the paint and texture will be matched to Prime 1 Collectibles factory colors with a mixture of dry brushing, ink washing and airbrushed all back to factory standards.

It was awesome to have a chance to see this Chris because while I haven't had a break like this one I've had a few in the past and it's always great to see how someone who really knows what they're doing repairs it. Thanks DB. I would have to either hand sculpt a new piece for anything missing. Or sometimes I can 3D print a new part.. depending on what it is.

Awesome, super informative video! I was wondering, could you recommend a paint brand or type to use to cover up a chip? I don't have access to an air brush unfortunately. Any advice at all is appreciated!

Thanks..I like using Vallejo or Tamiya. But you can even get away with using cheap acrylic craft paint from Michaels or Hobby Lobby.. it'll just take more layers and not give as good of coverage. The more expensive paint is more opaque and has higher pigments. Hope that helps.

I apologize in advance, but I fought the temptation to say this: "INSTEAD I WILL SIMPLY BREAK YOU." 😂😅 Love the repair videos. I've been studying them because as I get more and more into statue collecting, I want to learn to repair and paint them. Couple of questions for you. How did you align the bottom part of the leg with the top half? Not sure, but looks like you drilled a wider hole in the upper leg, so you had a little wiggle room to work with. And how do you color match a particular color? Do you eyeball it, or is there a technique to it? Thanks

Thanks for the question. The boot had a small gap between the leg where it broke but not all the way around. I was able to get an idea of where it needed to go. Also right after gluing the boot back on, I stood the statue up on the base to make sure everything aligned with the foot placement on the base. The boot/leg was dry fit as a test run before gluing. And yes I always drill a little wider than the rod.. when using epoxy paste, because it's so thick it needs a little air flow otherwise a vacuum is created when pushing the two parts together. The epoxy will then fill the extra space around the metal rod. It also allows for more surface adhesion. As for color matching. There's really no tricks. It's something I have an eye for. I've only been painting statues for a few years but have a lifetime experience painting, drawing, designing, etc..with a background in art. But running different sample tests and blending will help. Hope that helps!

Thanks. It's my paint thinner. Homemade concoction of water, IPA, and glycol. I may do a video in the future covering paint thinning. Any acrylic ink will do.. this one is Liquitex.

Tough decision as I really do like that statue. I've always liked the Detective 1000 Batman and once it started shipping and I found out the dimensions weren't as bad as what was listed on the website.. I purchased that one as my main Batman centerpiece. So in the end it came down to space, which Batman I liked better, and not wanting too many of the same character in the collection.

Casting issue on this one. Looks like an air bubble was trapped in the mold. They definitely did go lighter on this statue but overall their statues are very solid. 👍
