Today we will talk about the pharaohs of ancient Egypt. You must agree that there is something mystical, something mysterious in them, which separates the pharaohs from the rulers of our time and even from the kings of the Middle Ages.

According to latest studies on DNA samples from mummies of the New Kingdom and probably of the Ptolemaic rule/Roman conquest, they were found to be people belonging to the Levant region (Arabia, Turkey, Jordan etc etc). So they were Arab looking people or fair skinned, to be honest. However what we don't know or have are the DNA samples of mummies from the Old and Middle Kingdoms. Those Pharaohs, Queens and people could easily be or not be dark skinned/Sub Saharan. We don't know for sure

They were not black, or I should say they were all not black. They had varying degrees of skin color. The ancient Egyptians in upper Egypt closer to Nubia had darker skin and the Egyptians in Lower Egypt, closer to the north had lighter skin, closer to that of what they look like today. And for those who still say Cleopatra was black, they need to realize that she was Greek, and Greeks are not black. I think it's important to point out that they were probably not super light skinned, but they were not black. This is evident when you look at the temple paintings, you can see the Nubians depicted much darker than the Egyptians. Those that have been to Egypt, will know right away what I am talking about.
