The worst boots are the Thursdays; I own more than 20 pairs of boots. I have tried a lot of brands, and Thursday are not durable, not water resistant, and the soles are not long-lasting; I don't know how often you wear them, but it is not even worth to resole these boots. Why do so many people push for these boots? If you want boots that feel like sneakers from the very beginning, buy sneakers instead; personally, for me, after a break-in, the Whites and Nicks are the best for multiple reasons and for dress boots, Cheanney’s English-made boots

I never owned any, but I did order some as my first boot (couldn't find a size that fit) at the price point, it's a good option for casual wear for most people. not everyone can afford 200$ for footwear, let alone 300-700$

@StolenAlias maybe that's the issue. They were both $200 or more and over 10 years ago. I assumed they were all u.s. made at the time. I bought the mechanic boots. I personally wouldn’t buy anything from Thursday again. I think their customer service is amazing, but I think their products look very cheap, and their quality control is so bad. I’ve had to send something back at least once every time I’ve bought from them. I think Meermin is considerably better for similar money, Allen Edmond seconds are in that price range too. I’d probably just stretch and get something in that entry level $300-500 range though, I think that’s where the best value is for middle income business casual guys

While I don’t necessarily agree with some of the advice shared here, I must say, wear what is most comfortable for you and most applicable to the situation. To each their own. Wear hiking boots for long hikes, waterproof/winter boots for long walks in the snow, and nice dress shoes or dress boot for dressy occasions. The Iron Ranger and similar Blacksmith boots are very good, classic styles of the 1920s onward. People of those days were grateful to have such a boot, and often they only owned one or two pairs of footwear in general, unlike today. They used them for most everything because it’s what they had. Nothing wrong with USA made Red Wings, or closed lace Oxford style dress boots, and no need to dress down a dress boot…just wear it as a dress boot. Thursday boot quality is ok overall, but most of their boots are not waterproof either, and not designed for long hikes etc. They are not the same quality as the Red Wing heritage line. AE price has indeed gone up a lot, and unfortunately their QC has gone down, such a shame.

I have three pairs of Iron Rangers. I love them. But I will agree with you, that they are not great for long walks and winter. I live in Denmark and the winter is cold and wet. In the winter time, I wear Blundstone boots and Red Back boots. They are much more suited for the weather in the winter. And you might think, why don't you wear Eccos? Ecco is from Denmark. But Ecco is not popular in Denmark anymore. It is because of the situation with Russia and Ukraine. Ecco has more than 200 stores in Russia, and they will not close them down. The danish people are turning their backs on Ecco. So the Ecco stores in Denmark are closing one by one.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to tell someone to avoid something because you had a bad experience. You’re in the minority in having a bad experience with them, which is why they’re so popular. I’ve worn mine for four years and had absolutely no pain when they were new, never had any water issues, and when it was cold I did the sensible thing and put in a wool insert or wore wool socks. You can’t just say “oh yeah they were bad for me so avoid them”. Everything is subjective, the Thursdays are more comfortable at first, but then the foam flattens out they wouldn’t be as comfortable as a leather insoled boot that is formed to your foot.
@cjanquart6 ай бұрын
Agreed; I wore my Thursday Stompers for work (security guard, climate controlled warehouse) and the lack of support and cushion SUCKED and my feet were shot at the end of my shift. The pointed toe looks great as a casual/fashion boot but something with a round toe is better for a work uniform. Also had the zipper fail on my first pair within a couple weeks but Thursday allowed a return (begrudgingly) for a new pair. Now in my Nick's Tactical, totally worth the wait while I was wearing Danner Assails (decent inexpensive overseas made cemented nylon/leather boot). Buy once, cry once....buy cheap, buy twice.

I have purchased all of them as factory seconds and only on sale. I haven’t paid more than $175 for any of them and this includes the Higgins Mill boot. You’re the first reviewer to mention value as it pertains to sales. Clearly, the Higgins Mill, Landon or Dalton are not worth $495, but at $175-$235 they are a good value.

One question I'd have is, how many of these nicer looking boots exist in sizes for larger feet? Note that I'm talking like 10.5-11, 4E-6E. I've forever had the devil's own time trying to find boots that actually look somewhat fashionable -- like, basic black coloring, lace-up, maybe a side zip -- but ending up back with the stuff built like I'm year round looking to hike the tundra, with half an inch of padded lining and big chunky soles, because that's all I can find for Big Guy Feet. (Apologies if this seems like a bit of a rant, but the algorithm handed me this video and it's late enough that my feeling of being like Cinderella's step-sisters whenever boot recs happen got me cranky. 😅)

Some troll just told me that Thursday boots are a Ford Pinto and there are Ferrari models available for twice the price. I don't think they are entirely accurate, but I also don't think most Beck Sim or A Edm are quite worth their price if not on sale. And of course Red Wing and Thursday are not in the same category because the one is a heritage WORK boot and the other is a heritage-looking fashion boot, but my biggest problem with Thurs is that only the Captain seems to match their sizing guidelines and all the rest are a crap shoot where you hafta order multiple pairs and hope for the best and GOOD LUCK if you have wider feet.
