Dr. Josh Axe tells you exactly which oils to stay away from and why. And he gives you healthy alternatives for cooking and making your own salad dressings. Find more recipes for healthy alternatives at www.draxe.com
Unhealthy Oils:
1. Vegetable
2. Canola
3. Cottonseed
4. Hydrogenated
5. Trans fats
•Different oils have different heat thresholds.
•Most oils, when heated, change molecular structure. This process, called oxidation, causes the oils to turn rancid and converts good fats into bad fats.
•Every cell in the body is composed of fat, called a lipid bilayer. Therefore, in order to be healthy, it’s essential to consume good, healthy fats.
Healthy Oils:
1.Olive Oil (Organic, Cold-Pressed Extra Virgin)
•Olive oil is not healthy to cook with or heat at high temperatures because it oxidizes at high temperatures.
•Olive oil contains healthy Omega-9, monounsaturated fats, which help balance hormones.
2. Grapeseed Oil (Organic)
•Grapeseed oil is a healthy oil to cook with because it has a higher heat threshold. It does not oxidize at high temperatures.
•Grapeseed oil contains healthy Omega-9 monounsaturated fats, which help balance hormones.
3. Coconut Oil (Unrefined, Expeller-Pressed)
•Coconut oil is a healthy saturated fat that contains lauric acid, which is a medium-chain triglyceride that helps the body burn fat and lose weight.
•Coconut oil is a healthy oil to cook with because it has a high heat threshold and does not oxidize at high temperatures.
4. Organic/Raw Butter (Grass-Fed )
•Organic butter is a healthy saturated fat that contains CLA, conjugated linoleic acid, which helps the body burn fat and lose weight.
5. Ghee (Organic, Grass-Fed)
•Ghee is a clarified butter derived from India.
◦The protein is removed, so it is often more tolerated by those who are casein intolerant.
Action Steps:
1. Eliminate unhealthy oils from your kitchen.
2. Find healthy oils in your local grocery store or health food store.
3. Read food labels.
◦Avoid:
◾Vegetable
◾Canola
◾Cottonseed
◾Hydrogenated
◾Trans fats
◦Look for:
◾Olive Oil
◾Grapeseed Oil
◾Coconut Oil
◾Organic, Grass-Fed Butter
◾Organic, Grass-Fed Ghee

Any body interested, you can make your own ghee from Organic butter! Just heat a lump of butter in a stainless steel container( or any container that evenly distributes heat) over medium heat! Do not stir, allow the butter to melt and gradually separate in to fat and milk solids! At this point reduce heat, stir and take it off the hob! Filter the fat through a sieve and allow it to cool and solidify! You have made your own ghee! The aroma is to die for! Hope this helped

Heat butter then You skim the whey plz don't mix. Which gives you clarified butter. Keep heating and the clarified butter colour and smell changes. Then you have ghee. Keep the whey is great on skin, burns, bites & sun stings. Great on food too, parantha, saag or any food that benefits from salt and rich buttery tastes

Nutrition experts noted that coconut oil is high in saturated fat (92 percent), and recommended using it only sparingly. In fact, coconut oil has more saturated fat than the same amount of butter or lard. There is also limited science to back up claims that coconut oil is much better for the heart than butter is. After evaluating all of the studies available, a 2016 review published in the journal Nutrition Reviews found that people who consumed coconut oil had higher total and LDL cholesterol levels than those who consumed unsaturated fats, although the levels were a bit lower than in the people who used butter.

This an old video and maybe out of date. I've heard grape seed oil has a 600-1 omega 6-3 ratio which would mean it's garbage. For cooking at high heat advacodo oil is a good one and at medium heat coconut oil is good.

Hi Dr Axe, I would also recommend doing a skin test with oils as well as all soaps are made with oil base. I had strange skin allergies to most soaps and doing a skin test with olive oil and vegetable oils gave me same itchy reactions and outbreaks. Once I switched to coconut oil based soap (NutriBiotic Coconut Oil Soap Peppermint & Bergamot), no outbreaks and my skin heals faster than ever and feels completely soft even in harsh dry winters.

What your opinion about mustard oil? Generally it is use in Indian cooking, kind of first opinion than refined oils!!! Ghee is best I believe for cooking!! It is made of two types from cow( lighter ghee, yellowish color) and from buffalo( heavy ghee, off white color), Indian sweet dishes are made generally with ghee due to its taste.

He cites all the usual parameters, including discussions of LDL, HDL, total serum cholesterol, triglycerides, and inflammatory markers as irrefutable proof.

Reading THE comments sometimes is really depressing xD one says coconut oil is bad the other says organic butter is bad, I mean common. People have used coconuts for thousands of years, they call it the tree of life because it gives you great filtered water, it gives you oil it gives you milk and cream it even can give you bread people use the leaves for manny things. And if you look on KZbin the people who live this natural way of life they are healthy. Look up the Polynesian culture videos on KZbin. Same story with butter, let's take the example of sheep, it gives you milk, it gives you yoghurt it gives you variety of cheese, it gives you butter, it gives you its wool with it you can do all kinds of stuffs with make beds, clothes blankets. . It gives you great meat and companionship. Oh not to forget, it gives you great manure that you can reuse on your garden. These are the blessings and mercy of God appearing in these forms like sheeps, goats, vegetables and fruits. How could a milk be bad when it comes from a animal that grazes on a lush beautiful grass? Or its meat being not good for you. If such animal is given the right pure food and love and environment that animal is pure, and the one who consumes, consumes those things. Everything that is natural is good and pure. Same case with sunflower oil, grow the sunflower with good soil, make oil out of that. It will be the best oil in the world. Don't blame the sunflower if humans are polluting it.
