Olive oil benefits for the heart and brain: bit.ly/2t9lYFT
Ninety-eight percent of olive oil today is not truly extra virgin olive oil but rather fake and causes negative health benefits. In this video, you will learn how to pick out the real, quality olive oil.
Benefits of a good quality olive oil include:
1) Polyphenols, which are fat-soluble antioxidants that protect the brain and heart which can lower blood pressure, cholesterol and prevent long-term diseases.
2) Monounsaturated fatty acids are good for the heart, support balancing hormones and lubricate joints.
3) Vitamin E improves heart health and increases healthy, glowing skin.
Most olive oil today is not true olive oil but is laced with negative ingredients such as soybean oil or canola oil.
Top ways to pick the best olive oil:
1) Smell the oil to see if it has a very distinct, strong aroma
2) Dark glass bottle
3) Should harden or get cloudy if put in the refrigerator
4) Look for extra virgin olive oil, certified organic and look at the harvest season date and expiration date on the bottle
Is olive oil healthy? Yes, it is great for your heart, brain and hormones but it has to be real extra virgin olive oil.

You failed to mention real olive oil produces a mild "burning" sensation in the throat when ingested on it's own.

Filippo Berio oil says source of oils from EU sources, meaning not from one place. It has a harsh taste and slightly burns my throat. I drink it daily, but I want to be sure it is safe. Anyone know? Filippo Berio will not get back to me. It has a harsh taste, but is it better than nothing? Thanks.

What you say is 100% correct. When ingested it should give you a burning sensation in the throat. We produce our own olive oil in Greece mainly for our own use.

I'm a Spaniard and Spain is the largest olive oil producer in the world. Luckily, my family has olive trees. After recollecting them, they are sent to the oil mill of my town where they are pressed to produce the olive oil which is then put in bottles or small containers. When the process is finished, they give you the same olives you cultivated in form of oil. So if you have a large amount of olive trees you won't probably have to spend money buying it since you will be able to use your own olive oil for the whole year.

Guys there isn't a brand! The best olive oil producers are small producers in Greece, Spain, turkey, italy there the olive oil comes in limited amounts each season. If you want good Olive go to these places and why not go and do olive picking. Sometimes you can find some decent small brands on the internet but forget buying anything from the supermarket! Go for first press but also Cold PRESSED and pref organic

My family, from Sicily, has some olive trees, and we only use that oil. A simple trick to check its quality is to put in the fridge. At 4°C it would actually freeze. If it doesn't, then it's not olive oil, let alone extra-virgin olive oil.

Want to know if it's mixed with other oils? Then pour some olive oil on a cup, put it in the fridge for some hours. If it because COMPLETELY like butter, than it's a real, not mixed olive oil. If it's half butter half liquid or all liquid then it's fake and mixed with others.

Iam an olive oil producer from the Island of Crete, Greece.. fresh virgin olive will always have a deep green - golden color with a buttery texture .. the more color leans towards brownish gold tones, the more diluted it is & more acidic.. Virgin Olive Oil is measured at the refinery using an acidity test, 1 point being best, but is most common to be 3 points & higher.. higher the number more acidic the oil is, olive oil that is 15 to 20 points is pretty much only good for some kind of a lubricant or something LOL.. most super market olive oils are around 7 to 8 points..

Good information I agree, My grandmother was from Italy, She told me never have canola oil, so I have been having Olive Oil my whole life and I am 50, I take two table spoons every other day. I have had margarine when small, and butter as well. My mom used to make cookies with Crisco, and so did I. I have had many types of oils, but the last twenty years stuck to olive oil. I buy unrefined olive oil organic now. I don't see the worry truly. My grandmother lived to 107, and my mom is 80 almost, and healthy. I like the super food for for women and to eat more red meat and eggs, but the olive oil, I'm confused. Commercials back in the day say stay away from milk and butter, which I never have cut out of my diet. I never remember my family stressing over food, we ate a Mediterranean diet. Pasta, meat, rice beans, and home made cookies and pies. I feel like the more videos I watch the more worried I get. I have a glass of wine or two every day, or few times a week as well. I remember just eating, not worrying and living life. My chol was 220 last time, they were like too high. My grandmothers was 350 for years, but lived long? What is the trick, low stress, good food exercise, and I googled even too much water is not good? I have like 5 bottles of 16oz a day, live in Cali. Sleep good eat good, have lots of sex, drink wine, exercise and have water.

Dr. Glidden, ND says no to bottled oils and that includes bottled olive oil. The reason is because it oxidizes when mixed with air in the bottle. In the same way wine goes bad, olive oil goes bad. It also can go bad if it has been sitting on the store shelf for a long time. He says it would be good if you could get it fresh, but since we really can't, he says no. BUT here's my .02 cents. The wife and I buy fresh California Ranch Extra Virgin olive oil in the 750ml bottle and pour it into a dark green wine bottle which is also 750ml. We recap it with the same vacuum pump system as we do our wines. Our wines don't spoil and now our olive oil doesn't spoil.

Another rule of thumb is to buy single estate olive oil i.e. olive oil that comes from a specific estate or farm, not mass produced olive oil. Apparently, the UK imports more olive oil from France than it actually produces. i.e. evidence that olive oil is "cut" with cheaper oils before it reaches these shores. Not sure why the big companies can't do some kind of chemical analysis to discriminate between olive oil and other oils, but I guess they have no motivation to do so.

+Jillianne Smith Dear Smith, the way that you sould preserve olive oil, is between temperatures of 12celcius to 20celcius...also try to keep it away from sun light or from the light of the lamps...and for sure from the time that you open the bottle try to consume as more fast you can because the gap between the olive oil and the cap will be oxygen, and oxygen will the antioxidants very fast...!

Mediterranean diet is high in vegetables, so I think is hard to say is due to oil and fish only. Your thought?
@celestialcow
@celestialcow 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, the true med diet limited the amount of fish to only a couple of times a week unfortunately nowadays fish is not healthy because of all the containiments in the sea
@Nerdtritionists
@Nerdtritionists 4 жыл бұрын
Right, you could say that the Mediterranean Diet is healthful despite its use of olive oil. There are some effects at hand though. Replace other oils and animal fat with olive oil and you'll get healthier. This doesn't mean that olive oil itself is healthy. I talk about this on my channel too, in more detail.

Is it healthier to eat olives? Since every oil goes through some kind of processing.
@thorisomolefe2276
@thorisomolefe2276 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Eating a food in its whole form is always the best way to eat it. Commercial olives are apparently really bad for you though. If you want healthy olives, then you need to get fresh olives, not the usual pickled grocery store ones. I wonder how they used to extract olive oil back in anvient. Times, I'm sure that was some very healthy oil.

No. Olives sold are fermented with tons of salt. You need 6 kg of olives to make 1 litre of olive oil. So you can figure now which is better.

Question: I have seen videos from other physicians (namely Micheal Klaper MD) who say to stay away from any Olive Oil, no matter the purity because of negative heath effects . How does one sort this out with differing opinions from various medical experts?
@TheNcube
@TheNcube 6 жыл бұрын
WowplayerMe Just use your best judgment by finding out how these foods affect you personally and not just rely on others experiences. Do you feel better when you eat such and such? Do you get better blood test results and other test/examination results? The truth is, not all of us react the same way on a particular food or diet. I don’t think there’s a one size fits all diet. So find out what’s best for you.

If you are going to say olive oil is healthy, you should say something about the recommended amount not to exceed. Most people have no idea how much of a good food is actually bad for them. Nuts are a great example of something healthy that people tend to over eat

That's when you drink it pure or eat almost no fibers with it. It also depends on the amount of oil you take. Did you read the whole research in which they came to that conclusion? I haven't found research yet that researched a normal situation with oil. For instance: the different between a bean chilli with 7 grams of oil added and a bean chilli without oil/fat added. I would like to know if there is a real difference there.

Greek olive oil is the best in the world. There are Italian oils that in fact are from olives they buy from Greece. So if you want the real deal prefer Greek if you can find it. The reason is that Greek climate is the most ideal for olives to grow. I'm not trying to advertise, I'm just sharing information about the mediteranean.
