Cats don't normally "talk" a lot in the wild but they do so around humans to get our attention, because they try to replicate humans' way of communicating. I assume that because there are many people visiting and bringing treats, the cats are more talkative on the island 🥰 I would love to visit there!!

Thats it, cats don't talk to each other only to humans as humans are sound-orientated and thats what illicits a response and since they don't fend for themselves their care is provided by humans thats what they use to communicate., Cats use body language with each other which humans don't usually understand

Clipping the cat's ear is also common practice here in north america especially if is a stray kitty, to indicate they been neutered or spayed. I love how on this island most of the cats have names and are more social and calmer. Doesn't seem like all cat islands are the same when it comes to personality. Had no idea there was more than one. The first one I seen on the internet the cats seemed kind of wild and you can hear more cat fights. This one very peaceful.

@FloraWaze. This is how I dream of the world. Non violence and the community taking some responsibility for community cats (including medical care LOL) as well as, of course taking care of eachother. When I was a child back in the 1950s our backdoor was never locked. Neighbours just knocked and came in, and us kids were told off by the neighbours too if necessary. As Gandhi said, something like "you can tell a lot about a nation by the way it looks after its animals".

I’m a dog owner but I love the fluffy cats! They’re so cute and adorable and I just wanna keep petting them. Oh, and in my high school we have a black and white stray cat and he goes by different names but I call him Señor Whiskers. Every morning he stays by the portables or by the front of the school to greet students and sometimes he appears in the evenings too. The custodians feed him too. He’s very friendly and will legit make biscuits on your lap!

Cats meowing at people is a learned behavior. Meowing in wild cats is only exhibited by kittens meowing to their mother, especially when they’re hungry or need help. Most wild cats don’t meow at all. They’ll growl, hiss and howl when fighting or defending themselves, as well as caterwauling during mating season, but they don’t “meow”. Cats learn to meow to humans because we talk to them and they’ve learned that talking back usually results in positive behavior, like petting or food. These island cats are used to being talked to and getting positive attention from the island residents and tourists, so they’ve learned to meow at people just like a domesticated cat would. The cats that look alike and hang out together are likely related.

I have subscribed to your channel because I have been to Japan only once when I was too old to be able to return (I am now 71 and I was 61 when I did part of the Shikoku pilgrimage) and not rich enough and I literally fell in love with the little I saw and experienced in your country. Your travelogues bring back such rich memories and nostalgia for me. Believe it or not, but I am finishing the pilgrimage in the country where I live now because I retired just three months ago. I put on the ritual costume and walk about 8 kilometres a week and walk along the sea when the sun comes up (no mountains here LOL) and mark it all down in my notebook plus the temples I would have visited. In the beginning I felt very self conscious because I do not live in a Buddhist country but it is part of my sadhana and if people think I am a crazy old woman, I don't mind at all any more. I hope to return to Japan in a future life. So thank you again. I am full of gratitude. Arigatou gozaimasu - ありがとう ございます (one of the few expressions I learned very quickly LOL).

Bless their sweet hearts...sad though to see their ears cut like this though after being neutered...must be painful to recover and part of their senses diminished...we give small tattoos on the inside of the cats ear that show they have been neutered in Australia....I guess all these dear cats are old now and there will be no more once they have sadly passed....glad they are being taken care of in their last years by the residents of this beautiful island.
