I have been carrying one for at least ten years. Started with a stainless Parker pen. Later switched to a CRKT. It looks good writes well. Once was told I could not take it into court house after a week of jury duty where I took it each day except the last day a younger cop said it was a weapon and offered to keep it so I did not need to walk back to my car. He just wanted the pen, so I walked to my car and left it for the day.

Those tuff writer pens look really nice. I like that they have models that don't look like a weapon. It's also really nice that they come in purple, my favorite color. The downside is that they are a bit expensive. The purple pen is close to $100. It would really suck to lose a $100 pen. That said, I am a big fan of improvised weapons. So I may have to save up for a tuff writer to replace the united defense pen that broke.

Whoever think Tactical Pen is useless in real life situation, give some child a pen (10yrs old, not more) and let him hit you in any muscle you chose. Just once. Then let us know does it hurt and how much. My point is, every hit with TP, no matter in which part of body hurts like hell because of concentrated force. It is one of the best self defense tools you can wear. Training is always good, but with this tool you can get out of shit even without some serious training. If you attacked, just hit few times wherever you can and run. Great video btw. :)

Finally some good info on use of Tactical Pens. A lot of companies selling these without the back up of training. Where I live you can't carry any form of weapon for self defence. So this makes perfect sense. Granted I do some years of martial arts experience, but anyone with some basic knowledge will have a great tool at the disposal. I'm not going to argue or agree with the comments on this page whether or not its right or wrong just get out of your armchair and train. Every one has different reasons to train what ever the style and granted you can do the same with a bic pen. The companies are just filling a market but i would rather have steel to plastic.

Always remember reasonable use of force. I have done 6 months prison time over a fine line case which was judged excessive use of force in self defence. Such outcomes are a true possibility and reality that mustneeds be paid close attention to. Take a great deal of care when it comes to any kind of self defence weapon. Whatever level of damage that you do to an attacker must be relative to the threat. If they have no weapon, you would be better using your empty hands to defend yourself. Ending up in prison is not really a very successful self defence outcome, as you will likely be fighting more battles in there.

I like the idea of a tactical pen, since you can carry it anywhere. Discreet and effective. I specifically chose a blunter tactical pen because I want to use it as an intermittent level of defense before my knife comes out. Anyway, although I agree with the thumb on top of the pen for grip, if someone was attacking me with that grip I would go for their easily accessible thumb and lock it to their wrist causing them so much pain they would drop the pen. That being said, a defensive stance where the pen is not so available to your attacker (as in your pen hand back behind your other hand) would probably be better, at least in my opinion. Just my 2 cents.

As I'm trying to mimic your arm motions it's a bit confusing between 'takes' when you're facing first L arm toward camera, then the next shot is R arm to camera. I'm having to re-orient myself to match and mimic. I understand you're trying to emphasize certain points, but it helps if you keep one or the other arm toward camera (i.e. downstage) the whole time as you move, slow motion, through the drill, like 5 or 6 stop points/freeze-frames through the motions. Like they say, 'Go slow, to Go fast".. Great videos, though, I've watched them over and over.

look I know some of you think that this Is useless but the tactical pen comes from an acient weapon known as a kubaton used in ninjitsu and I think samuri also used it,now the kubaton was literally just a metal rod and it took down hundreds to thousands of people who use to use swords,and since all this is is an updated verion of the kubaton it is just as effective and could kill or hurt someone very easily,even with a crowbar swinging ,now you don't HAVE to take my word for it but I am a legal sensei and have been for quite some time so I do know what I am talking about

I would add a note (which was also mentioned by the trainer) to those watching this video, just because a person is throwing a punch at you doesn't (by itself) give you the legal or moral right to shove a tactical pen (equivalent of a knife) into their carotid artery or even use it at all. You have to evaluate the totality of circumstances and deem your attacker as a lethal threat and evaluate the situation. The tactical pen is LETHAL FORCE, period, and you need to justify it's use (again not just legally but morally). For example, some guy in a bar who want's to throw a punch because he's an asshole doesn't need a tactical pen to the skull. Now that same guy in the alley with two of his buddies saying, something like "we're gonna kill you" is different. That's only one example. But the totality of circumstances add up to lethal force in that situation. Carrying a small palm sized can of pepper spray along with a knife or tactical pen or even a gun can be a great tool to add some buffer of defense between hands and lethal force. All i'm cautioning people about is use what is necessary to stop the threat, nothing more and nothing less than that.

@Dcook8510 жыл бұрын
If someone is trying to kill me then yes, i will kill them. Other wise, I refuse to kill a man just because he wants to throw a punch in a bar or something. If i kill someone i want it to be justified in my own mind for the rest of my life, not always thinking about the man i killed who didn't want to kill me....

Tregeta A punch can kill you. If the guy throws the right punch, it will kill you. I've seen guys killed with one punch. I'm not taking no chances, I'm gonna do what I have to do to save myself.
@Dcook8510 жыл бұрын
"can kill you" while technically true you can't justify stabbing someone in the skull because of it because a punch is NOT considered lethal force by itself unless other factors play into it. Drive a good kick into his balls, break his nose, perform a good judo wrist lock and/or break his wrist. If you can fight with this tactical pen the way that's shown in the video, then you're capable of doing those things. The only time that pen comes out is if you are faced with more than you can handle without the pen, when you actually think your life is in danger. I believe in self defense completely, but in your logic every bar fight would end up with at least one person dead, think about it.

Sabrina Raquel Please tell me more and how you would use each one.
@srs22868 жыл бұрын
+LoveGuruBlaire I carry a pen pepperspray-I clip it on my clothing, or a stun gun. I have about several years of boxing experience, I know I would not win against a attacker but I would cause as much harm as possible. Also great techniques are best if your are fast on your feet and able to move around the person to allow enough time and distance to pull your self defense weapon. I always play scenarios in my head and try to keep my brain ready if I were ever attacked. So for example if I am out jogging and I pass a man running I will think of all the ways that person could attack me and over power me in that instant (all environments are different so doing this often helps you think of multiple situations and you get creative with your responses). Try it next time your are out, you will see how fast or slow your brain can think of solutions. Try taking a self defense class, it is best to see what it is like to have another persons strength combat yours and will help you understand your own strengths and weaknesses.
Sabrina Raquel Thanks for sharing! I think it's helpful to be prepared, but also the practicing of all the different scenarios in one's mind is both good and bad -- as we create what we are constantly thinking about. You wouldn't want to draw that experience to you. I think it's a fine line as my mind sometimes plays with things like that too, but then I "cancel" them out. Our mind is very powerful.
