as a SAAB guy, i love the explanation of boost control...something SAAB was doing in 1985 based on knock sensors. By the mid nineties SAAB cars were sensing knock through the electrical resistance in the air between the the spark plug ground and electrode. 20 years later Audis still have knock sensors. Find yourselves a mid to late nineties SAAB 9000 and get in touch with MikeD. You can make 500hp with those b234 engines without pulling the oil pan or valve cover. The transmissions are glass, but they make adapter plates.
@ferkle1980

Can confirm all of this. Gearboxes become service items over 300hp, less if you’re not gentle enough with the boost down low. I miss my HX40 fed 9000 Aero, with the old trionic suite soldered pin out/bdm setup. Good times

Awesome! You can run 99-01 Cobra exhaust manifolds on the older B head stuff. Makes for a decent and cheap upgrade, and gets rid of that Basket Case drivers side manifold that Lincoln put on. Also, what did you do about the IMRC's? If they're still in place, or just zip tied open, it will cause some nasty restriction under boost.

Better exhaust routing, more injector (and maybe fuel pump) and you probably have well over 600hp. But, keep in mind, the Lincoln has the aluminum housing 8.8 which can accept an LSD, but is a bit weaker than the Thunderbird/Cougar iron differentials. Of course the CV axles will break first typically... but if you can find a T-bird SC differential with a factory LSD, a quick gear swap will get you sorted for low $$. Or just build the entire thing. Just beware of the stock 2-piece sleeved driveshaft. That's why they had limiters at 130MPH from the factory, due to driveshaft speed.
@ummduhgmail
@ummduhgmail 7 ай бұрын
And if I remember correctly, a carbon fiber driveshaft is about the only good fix for it, because of the length and space. Can't put a big enough aluminum in there to get a high enough critical speed rating. I would hope aftermarket cv axles are available by now, but maybe theyve come and gone already. I haven't had an mn12 for about 10 years now.

Great job guys! I know space is tight, but please add an intercooler when you install the bigger injectors. Then you'll be drifting grandpa's Lincoln in second gear with that Gearstar.

What about the suspension on your mk8. Does it still work as intended? Don't those cars drop down a few inches as speed increases, steering wheel response speed increases? Lincoln had a cool commercial about the mk8. Back when that car was new that engine was pretty good stuff. I think they claimed a 280+ HP with adaptive/active suspension. For the 90s that was the sht to have. Are you going to put a air filter on?

Pretty sure that was optional, and there's a good chance by now that all of that air suspension has failed and been removed. None of those fancy air suspensions lived nor were they cheap to fix.

It's sweet that your little mini me helper has even gone out and purchased some matching overalls so he can be just like his daddy. Hell, he's even wearing the matching toboggan. 😂

Glad you moved back and enjoy all your builds. Nice to see you get through the dyno session without blowing anything up. Can't wait to see what that Lincoln does in 1/4 mile.

You’re going to want a 76mm like a 76/75 for a 4.6 dohc for a street car. The 72mm is a little small.

Find you a small propane tank, flush it good, weld a 2” fill bung into it, a siphon tube with a fitting to attach to the oil sending unit hole and weld in a schrader valve with gauge. Add a gallon of oil, connect to sending unit hole and give her about 50psi, rotate the engine while its force feeding the engine and when its empty fire it up. Works on any engine and already has 4qts of oil in it

I love a good sleeper and this build has to be my favorite yet. I have always thought the Mark VIII was a good looking car and it makes a hell of cool sleeper. I am sure Brad didn't mind lounging in that comfy leather interior on the dyno either. It was fun to watch that exhaust tip slowly melt its way into the bumper cover while you made those big HP numbers. I can't wait to see the car hit the streets of PA. Keep up the good work!👍

Every time you keep yelling “Double it” I could see the top of the engine explode again. There is a limit to reliability. You guys are a small operation with big ideas and balls and we all appreciate it. But, damn, y’all got to back off a bit. 515 at the wheels and 520 torque is awesome for the grampa machine!!!! And it is still a luxury model…..with cloudy headlights and tailpipes coming out the front quarter panels!!!! Anybody who tries to beat that sleeper is going to regret it…..well, we’ll see how well it performs on the next episode, I guess! You need to be slumped a bit in the driver’s seat with both hands on the wheel, wearing a white hair wig, big horn rimmed glasses, a red farmer flannel shirt, blue jean coveralls and old work boots to complete the look of the sleepy sally!!!! Oh, and one more thing…..a bumper sticker that says “I might be slow, but I am ahead of you!” Go get ‘em!!!!

Back in 91-92 , I was framing houses in Georgia just north of Atlanta. A couple guys had a LSC mark 6,or 7 don’t remember but we would pile in this car and rip it for lunch hour everyday. We called it the Long Smooth Car, not the LSC car,lol. This car would just rip those rpm’s so high we thought we were floating down road!! Is was so fun, think I was 18 at the time. Come to find out it had no registration no insurance no paperwork what so ever, just a dealer license plate. Cool car’s gotta say

91 or 92 would have been the Mark VII. A bit boxier of a car. I had a 91. Me and 4 buddies would go eat barbecue, and when we would get out the car, the air ride would adjust and the darn thing would look like it had a six inch lift kit. Hilarious.
