Now that I'm older and understand they did it out of primal fear that my sheer curiosity and the lack of self-preservation would end up putting me in... Very undesirable situations. And growing up in a community where that kind of disciplining was normal made your friends and schoolmates sympathize with you... But also point out, 'yeah well... That thing you did was kinda dumb'
