Oh yes a steak and kidney pudding- yum yum yum - my Dads absolutely favourite, along with a bacon pudding, or just dumplings- lets me be truthful my darling dad just loved suet puddings 🤣🤣oh and he lived till he was 94.

@@ianthomas1060 Much the same thing as above, but use bacon chunks instead. Fry bacon offcuts, after trimming the fat, then toss in flour the same way to make a rich sauce. Just don't add any salt.

@@ianthomas1060 instead of steak and kidney - you use bacon and onions, it not a ‘wet’ pudding, you don’t cook it in a basin, but rolled in a pudding cloth, at least that what we did here ‘down here’ - basically it was a way of stretching the meat, and filling families up.

It’s a long time since I had a steak & Kidney pudding and your pudding looks delicious. I often make steak and kidney with crispy dumplings. I always use water when making my dumplings so am interested to see you used milk in this pastry.🇬🇧

Brings back happier memories when my mum would make this along with a steamed bacon suet pudding in layers. I have never found a recipe for it. She'd make a load of pies too. She didn't put milk in the suet i don't think. When i came to live in Norfolk a friend of mine whld make it the same as you. A million years ago when I was unfortunately married, my wife decided to go against character and make me something I really liked, a steak and kidney pudding. I'd done a ten hour shift and I was starving and really looking forward to it. Imagine my delight when I sat down to tuck in and she said that there was no kidney in it but she couldn't handle dealing with them. A surgical chuffing nurse! I've done it myself ever since and I haven't seen her for a good, very good 14 years. Great video. I bloody love using suet.

Suet puddings are such a British thing that other cultures really need to understand. And S&K is the pinnacle. Pies are nice, but puddings are bliss! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, and for explaining how to do the suet/flour pastry. I especially liked how you prepared the meat, and left much of gravy for later. We’re from Lancashire, England but make our home in Canada now. My Dad’s been asking for a Steak pudding for ages, so I’ve been looking for a recipe to make it. We were reminiscing last night about my late MIL's meals. She was a fantastic cook. She used to get all her meat from a local Butcher. The joints of beef she got were fabulous. Her roast spuds were divine because she roasted them in beef dripping😋 We actually mentioned her wonderful Steak & Kidney Pudding, all made from scratch. She ueed to put all the ingredirnts in raw, layering the meat, onion and kidney with a splash of Oxo on each layer. Then she'd stream it on the hob for hours. That pudding, her Minced Steak and Onion Pies, her Mixed Grills and her Roast Beef Dinners still make us salivate. Like her own Mum she was a fantastic Home Cook and Baker. Thanks for your vids, it teminds us so much of meals we were bought up on 👍

Hello mand, I wish I could eat offal but I can't, but steak and kid pud was something me mum made, the whole kitchen had water running down the walls from the steam, didn't have extractor fans is them days, lol. I make steak onion in beer instead. But this looks delicious pet. 😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

That's the proper way to say that. "Steak n kidney pudden" 😋 BTW did you know you can poke those tabs in either end of the foil (and maybe the baking paper too) to create a sort of axle to hold the rolls on place?

Not many people cook with suet pastry anymore, but it should be cooked with more, comfort steak and kidney pud, love it 😊
