I love how he took the time out of his life to see the Almanac but didn't notice that the ranges were different. Where Homing Thistle has control over the entire lawn, Cattail only has a range of about 4.5x4.5 and a longer recharge in exchange for increased damage and being able to be placed on water. It's pretty fun doing setups using both plants with Thistles in the back and Cattails on the front. Another tip: The game did a really bad job at explaining this, but when they're open, a few select zombie-blocking plants can be placed over them, though this won't stop them from emerging from them. This won't apply to Infi-Nut (Despite the fact that the mfer could literally hover over them), Murkadamia Nut or Kiwibeast. Plants that could hover above the manholes could fit though, making strats where you keep something like a Caulipower over one with a Pumpkin defending it.

Pro tip: you can plant Jhonny and johnny-like plants on top of manholes after they're opened to save space. There is an exception though, space Johnny can't, because of his projector. Also flying plant can be placed but the only worth while one is ghost pepper

A few things about Cattail Wolfy: 1. Cattail in this mod has short range when attacking zombies in front of her and not full board range like in the first game. Meaning you'll have to place Cattail slightly in front of your defenses. 2. I found that if played correctly with a good sun producer, Cattail with Imitater are a great combo for spam and combine them with Infi-nut's plant food barrier or Pumpkin can easily shred up zombies. 3. Cattail is a great plant for early game. It shreds anything that isn't Jesters, Excavators or anything with health as much as or higher than a buckethead. Late game wise, Cattail can prove to be pretty potent when dealing support damage against hordes and a lot of them spammed can provide great single target DPS. 4. Despite her low frontal attacking range, Cattail has a much higher backwards attacking range, meaning she deals with Garg-thrown Imps, Imp related ambushes, prospectors and prospector type reskins really well. 5. This one is obvious but Cattail is an amphibious plant. You don't need to plant her on a Lilypad to plant her in the water. 6. Not a Cattail tip but I thought I'd give this anyway. You can put any Nut type plant or flying plant with Pumpkin on top of the manholes in Steam Ages which can block zombies that pop out of them. Infi-nut doesn't work unfortunately. Hope you see this comment Wolfy and hope these tips for Cattail were helpful. I've been a viewer of yours since 2018 and have not stopped watching you since. Nice to see the Steam Ages being explored a bit (All three plants are good depending on situation, Cattail obviously being the best to attack with) and at the time of writing this, there was a hotfix patch (obb has to be downloaded) that fixes a couple of things, and one of them is the glitch that would happen with the Ghost Pepper's April Fools costume will no longer happen. So no more constant screaming in your ear while using it

Cattail could totally be the star of the setup if you bring imitator, all it takes is two of them to cover all lanes. Just remember that it’s a close range plant now, but slap some johnnys or pumpkins with it and it’s gonna kick ass!

The dialogue on Day 1 of Steam Age said you can put defensive plants on top of opened sewers, so plants like wallnut, garlic, sweet potato, all those wallnut-like plants are usable (except for infi-nut because of its hologram pad). Flying plants also work with them and pairs well with pumpkin.

Remember, you can deal with the vents with other plants besides Cattail. I recommend Pumpkin and Space Johnny's plant food to keep the zombies at bay. Fun fact: Steam ages is from the Chinese version of PVZ2. A completely different game to the international version (the classic version). It was unfinished for years now, and probably will be for the rest of time. The Chinese version of PVZ2 was considered by the community as a glitchy mess. And I don’t know how much of this is true, but apparently it was also supposed to come out on the international version of PVZ2. Take that with a load of salt. There are probably more qualified commenters here able to explain it all, but here’s what I’ve learned.

Think of Cattail like a melee homing thistle. Its shortened range but overall higher dps makes it a great support plant, and the only melee that can actively attack any lane. It has unlimited vertical range, just limited horizontal, so use that to your advantage. It pairs well with walls, for example. Also, I havent quite finished the video, but when it said you could plant on opened manholes, it meant nuts. The exceptions are infinut and murk nut which are too small to plug up the holes (the former since its a fucking projector). Flying plants ie roto or caulipower can also be placed on them.
