Genius! Who knew you could do all that with some Mylar, staples and an electric kettle? The plywood addition was amazing and a perfect match! I can say that I’ve watched every single episode, you’re very entertaining and I have learned quite a bit. I especially love your old router table, I have a new one and I don’t like it now that I’ve seen yours! My dog looks just like Geordie too, he is not yet 2 and is quite a handful, I wouldn’t give him up for anything, watching Geordie gives me exactly what I know he will be! His name is Major, and he is the Major....major pain, major work, but a very sweet dog! Can you check in on Geordie for us more often? Good job on your videos they are great! Nena

Nice work as usual. If you are going to steam anything bigger what works great as a steam source is a wall paper steamer. You don't need a fancy steamer. The cheapest will do. I used mine to steam 1"x6" Douglas Fir up to 10' long in a steam box I cobbled together out of #4 spruce (cheapest wood at the lumber yard). Ten years ago I made a steaming bag out of a piece of scrap plastic tarp (the next grade up from blue tarp). It worked fine to steam planks in situ by sliding it along a plank as I drew it down.

Here goes then: - Bending wood cold will result in failure, but using steam works........."patishhh" (cymbal crash) 😁. Brilliant video and amazed it worked so well. You've dispelled all that I've read that suggests that mahogany doesn't steam bend well due to lack of lignin. Well there you go. The yeast in that beer will make you fart like crazy later 😎.

Lots of suspense on that episode Peter, still waiting for the crack!!! Had to do a similar job some time back on a traditional Shannon angling cot and had a lot of trouble keeping the steam up when a friend suggested I hire a few wallpaper steamers, I took off the pads and bodged a connection to a 4" sewer pipe and it worked a treat, never thought to use an old kettle well done :)

I used the Tips From a Shipwright method bending the Douglas fir lower chine stringers on my Woods catamaran. It worked pretty well. I used a propane burner with a cheapo Walmart stockpot as the boiler. I drilled a hole in the lid and put a nipple through it, and clamped a heater hose to the nipple. I stuck the other end of the hose in the bag I'd taped around the chine. The lip on the pot and lid were wide enough to clamp down with spring clamps. It took about an houre and a half to get the wood bendy enough to attach to the transom frame.

Been a while since ive watched you series and I’m pretty impressed with your theory and contraption. For steambending the Mylar bag. Insulation was something myself and manu other boaters i know used to insulate most of our hatches and single pane windows for climate control of our cabins My guess is if you can steam Sapele long enough. You will get it to work I’m just not sure if your little kettle is up. To the challenge but like most od your videos Its always a adventure those that dought this aren’t Boaters and wouldn’t understand our determination and drive of keep trying you should pick yourself up some silicone barbecueing gloves to help you handle the parts faste and easier to get them into the forms asap killer job Peter On the success Cheers to you and Congratulations i had kind of guessed you were going to get something made for that corner the updated pics on the boat shows a ton of progress
