Looks ok but is piped incorrectly the whole point of a replacement is to bring unit and piping up to new standard boiler is going to surge no equalizer and no Hartford loop would not pass inspection in mass

i see some steam boilers in the field that dont have hartford loops, how can you tell when its needed or not needed?

One-pipe counterflow systems don’t have a Hartford loop...only because the return is above the water line, but that doesn’t appear to be what’s going on here.....industrial bread proof box 🤷♂️

Required on all steam boilers here by insurance company don’t think they will pay out if it cracks and doesn’t have Hartford loop

Chris Voit absolutely required on all residential steam boilers whether or not return comes back to boiler above or below water line but still need it and equalizer either way

Does that boiler have a header, equalizer, and a hartford loop ? How to you control wet steam ?

first part time job I had back in 1971, I was 11, and This guy had a business where making copper piping was one of the jobs and remember threading and reaming different piping. Of course, I was supervised, but I did the work myself. I still to this day think "Wow! quite the job for an 11 year old"... I remember 1971 because his daughter and I had a little puppy love crush on each other and I remember we liked the song "Don't Pull You Love" by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds which came out that year. Saw the pipe threader which made me remember that, so I thought I'd share. Thanks!

The daily bread 🍞 can now be made safely. Never heard the electrician, happy to hear hear him glad you used a licensed electrician, and concussion test for practically and safety. Even though you have less chickens you will now have bread for then. Install a trail cam. Proofer it is we made pizza dough with something like that. Love it great for learning. Show the testo sign in the box next time. Your tester looks good. Miss the old dog q wish you went out of the area but we'll talk was fixed.

Hey Steve have you ever though about putting a main line water filter especially on a steam boiler ? I would think it would lengthen the life of it since it goes through so much water and help keep the corrosion down ..
@joedugas94625 жыл бұрын
its adding the water that causes a non-condensing boiler to fail early. You get water "falling" out of the flue gases That water is a mild carbonic acid ... corrodes the boiler. Stainless ex changers would add life to it. There flue gases on the tester showed pretty high temps... so it might last a long time.

Not questioning your install love your work, but trying to learn, wheres the hartford loop or is it not needed?
@ricktomlinson54814 жыл бұрын
I would think that since this boiler is supplying steam to a bread proofing room and not radiators that there is no significant return to the boiler. All it's water comes from the make up water valve so no Hartford loop needed.

How do you clean the oils out, besides skimming, to keep it from contaminating the food?
@oldhandyluke5 жыл бұрын
Bob W you have to skim the boiler but only steam comes out from the boiler so you dont really have to worry too much about that but you still should
@Bob.W.5 жыл бұрын
Those oils will lift with the steam I'm afraid. At least the lighter hydrocarbons in the oil.

This is the most important test you can make with any boiler that uses water.

So essentially that’s a suicide boiler lol sees fresh water constantly. They would be better off with a steam humidifier to handle the humidity and let the steam heat the proofer

You mentioned “chemicals “. What chemicals would you add to a steam boiler? Are you talking rust prevention or removal?
@sparkydave27834 жыл бұрын
Capmans Capmans process steam boilers, where the steam in not needed to be “food safe” can have a number of chemicals dosed into the feed water depending on that water quality, the use for the steam and the type of steam & condensate system. For example, oxygen scavengers (e.g. hydrazine), pH adjusters (e.g. ammonia), polymers and other products to keep salts and minerals in solution and prevent scaling.

What is that place with that metal room? Is that a steam room? Reminds me of something from one of my video games.
@MonoChorMe4 жыл бұрын
That metal room, is the so called "proofing box/room". Its a "room" where the bread is stored so that the yeast fermentation can happen rapidly. Think of it this way - a bread maker for the home is a proofing box of sorts; since that's what it does - it does bread. :D Let me guess what game it reminded me of - the mission "Meat Kings Party" from Hitman: Contracts :''D

I’m not too fond of how you piped that supply in. I would have used both trappings in the boiler and made a header with an equalizer line off to the side,back into the boiler to catch “wet steam” ..Then a tee up to the main. Helps stop water hammer !
@frmerrin24 жыл бұрын
Could add a drop header if you want to ensure dry steam.
@Clamjammer4 жыл бұрын
frmerrin2 a drop header is for sure the best way to ensure dry potent steaks reaches the radiators. Great point! I love steam heat I think it’s so cool! I’ve been in the field for 7 years and I’m 26 years old. Nobody in my age range,I mean nobody knows a thing about steam! I plan on getting a book called “the lost art of steam heating” I forget the author but I recommend getting the book if you’re into steam heating like I am. I just did a boiler install and it was so much fun! It was my first “on my own “ steam install. It’s purring along beautifully

@@BobWiersema No header,equalizer or Hartford loop.
@BobWiersema4 жыл бұрын
@@frmerrin2 A header/equalizer and hartford loop are only used on single pipe radiator systems. This is supplying steam to production equipment. That equipment looks new enough to have return traps. I haven't done much residential steam heat so I wouldn't know if that type of old school pipe design is even used anymore. But I can tell you from my experience in commercial steam heat that the equalizer/hartford loop design was replaced around 1900 with the invention of the steam trap.

Really… that Crown is no good anymore??
@Davidlabar45 жыл бұрын
Tommy TMT apparently this is used for process steam and there is a lot of waste hence the high amount of makeup water. 16 years is good you won’t see 30+ like residential. It also explains the smaller pipe diameters. Don’t understand the piping as there is no equalizer or Hartford loop, but could be different being commercial and higher pressures.
