The 64GB eMMC storage is supplied as a removable 2230 card - I should know because I just upgraded my 64GB Deck to 256GB in the last week (using a second hand 2230 SSD for £18). Also, it fits fine - inside its carry case - in my backpack with space to spare (it's a Xiaomi commuter backpack I got free with a tablet purchase). BTW, one bit of "jank" specific to UK users is that there's no UK layout on the virtual keyboard. Yep, there's no way to type a "£", which is a massive oversight that I haven't seen any reviews (including UK ones like this one) mention.

I'm totally in love with my Steam Deck. Way more than I expected to be when I preordered it. I was worried about the size but I find it to be very comfortable to hold and use for long periods. Again, I didn't expect this based on the photos and how chonky it looks. I noticed the other day that my hand was cramping trying to play my 3DS XL for an extended period. I've gotten so used to the big grip on the Steam Deck that now my smaller handhelds seem uncomfortable to me.

The emmc is actually m.2 and by far the best steam deck to buy if you're planning to upgrade. Your games aren't controllable because you did not add heroic game launcher into steam as a non steam game. The launcher needs to be opened from steam to pass through steam input. It's the same thing in windows.
@DJRonnieG2 жыл бұрын
Are you sure? Well, maybe they started substituting the part.... I went with the 256gig out of concern that the eMMC model wouldn't be upgradable. However, it is now clear that I probably would have had no trouble upgrading if I bought the 64 GB model. Anyway, I'll start with a 512gb SD card and I'll eventually double or quadruple my SSD capacity.

From what I can figure, the device is reasonably portable, but a USB powerbank is likely to be in-tow. The only full-wattage PD powerbank that I have is the size of the device and weighs about 3 lbs. It's sort of like how a large cargo plane goes wherever the Air-Force One goes in order to transport the presidential car and secret service vehicles.This is necessary unless you are absolutely certain that you will be going somewhere with easy access to outlets. In which case, it'll be just like owning a GameGear... heck, we almost never ran that thing on battery power! In this case, I most certainly will use the battery.

I would say the Switch and Deck don't really compete with each other. In my opinion the deck competes with the Aya neo, Onexplayer and GPD. the Switch (while being very anemic) has been way more stable for me than the Deck. While I do prefer the Deck (partly due to me being a PC gamer primarily) I have had issues with the Deck. The track pads stopped working in desktop mode randomly, the Deck getting stuck in sleep, the dpad having way to high sensitivity, and even three system crashes one of Which causing me to have to wipe and reinstall steamos. But that is the price of a more open platform, and in my opinion it is worth it. And hopefully they get it to be more stable as steamos 3.0 matures.

Had the Steam Deck for a bit and just recently decided to sell it. It’s too bulky for me. So much so that I primarily ended up using it and my desk and didn’t feel comfortable taking it anywhere. My PC is also at my desk so it was kinda pointless. Besides that Switch OLED has a 100x better screen and when mostly playing indies and pixel art games the differences in power are insignificant. AAA games are playable on the Deck, but I wouldn’t say they are great experiences. That’s just me though.

@FaerieDust2 жыл бұрын
Mine's coming sometime soonish - July to September. I can't wait. I'm keeping my Switch Lite for Nintendo specific games, but games are so much cheaper on Steam that that'll probably be my first choice. The bulk of it is definitely one of my largest concerns - by the looks of it, it'll take up a good half of my current bag. I probably won't carry it around for my daily commute, but I think I should be able to make it work for longer trips. The fans could be an issue, but I usually don't mind lowering my settings a fair bit when necessary and that should extend the battery life enough to last me most of a flight... Yeah, I'm super primed to love this thing 😂

I have a question, I'm interested in getting a steam deck but I'm torn because my current game setup is a Xbox Series S, a Pixel 6 pro with elite controller and Xbox game pass ultimate! I find that using my phone with the controller when I'm out and about is pretty much dang near perfect. I don't really have any complaints. Destiny 2 and call of duty are perfect on the Pixel 6 with Xbox game pass. But my question is should I stop and just get a steam deck?
@andrewmadaus82282 жыл бұрын
Hope this helps: it is big…no matter what anyone says. The battery is about 2.5 hours, no matter the game. While I have the new Xbox and game pass, the deck does provide that flexibility of playing pretty much anywhere. And I have had no software issues as they update seemingly constantly, so the support for it is insane. I bought a cheap mouse and keyboard, it hooks up to my tv seamlessly, so when I take my kids on the road to see grandma or whoever, it is like packing a pc, which I like. Would I get rid of the Xbox set up you have? My gut leans towards no…but for me, I had some extra carrot,as cash and have enjoyed my time with it…and…steam always, to me, has way better sales than any other platform. So there is the game-save money aspect. Be well!

I've streamed PC for a long time, kishi+oneplus 9, junglecat+note 9. Definitely did 1/2 of my RDR2 play through that way and a lot of Witcher 3. I would recommend a handheld over phone, unless funds are tight. Aspect ratio and size is much better in a handheld. If you don't care about support for running games on the device, Ayn Odin Lite is about $200, 6in 1080p w/wifi 6 - has transparent shells too, got that as a dedicated streamer but the Deck is really, really comfy. Also wanted to ride the hype train - all those juicy control setups you can download in configurator. Didn't have to bother trying to fix Green Hells crappy controller support, just downloaded a layout that mapped the standard controls to keyboard and mouse behind the scenes. Also streaming my PC to Deck I get about 6 hours with only CPU throttled, at 4 watts.

@@CA_I Gotcha, thanks for sharing! I was just organizing games that I think are suitable for it, I've bought into several Humble Bundles and have a decent backlog to catch up on. It's crazy they're still working through day 1 reservations when they started shipping units out here in late February. I'm guessing that day probably had the biggest bulk of reservations, hopefully things will move along faster once they get through all those day 1 orders🤞

Can you use the steam deck while charging?
@hruettimann2 жыл бұрын
Yup, no problem. The charging adapter just has to be able to deliver enough power (>45W I believe).

I'm sure someone will release a better battery soon. Even if it's not expandable? just drop the settings down in the OS to save your battery, another amazing feature!

How do you put the games inside the steam deck ??

Not a bad video. Surprisingly good.

After initial hype I thought: ok, maybe I don't need it (i bought RG552 and waiting for my Odin Lite - these are handhelds mostly for emulation) BUT yeah, i'm trying to not buy it but ... i know how it'll end xD Thanks for the info about battery. Thas was my concern that it drains too fast. Now I guess that if you don't play AAA titles, then it should be more or less 3-4 hours

What game did you play at 11:50 ? :D

the thing is absolutely great - it just doesn't seem to want to work with my USB C dongle at 4k; 1440p works absolutely fine so I can even use it as a desktop pc with some limitations to applications, but game mode seems to want to use 4k so it just doesn't work at all for me with my external display right now. I'm sure the official dock will work fine though once that comes out. It's definitely worth it to limit TDP and play with settings to get awesome battery life out of the deck - journey for example ate all the CPU power it could - draining at about 10% per 10 minutes, but then I just limited the TDP to 3 or 4 Watts or whatever and easily tripled the playtime. edit: oh and Minecraft via PolyMC works absolutely amazing with a mod (Midnightlib and midnightcontrols) with awesome battery life and performance - just awesome! Adding PolyMC as a non steam game lets you launch it from game mode too which is neat

Idk, the switch oled has an oled display with a longer lasting battery. Not to mention the majority of the most played games on steam deck are on the switch with virtually no sacrifices.

Fills your backpack? what do you carry it in?

Big + for the switch is TATE gaming. (Vertical screen). For shumps and pinball.

The ridiculous comments about the Steam Deck size, “do I take clothes or my Steam Deck ?” Nonsense, it fits easily in ANY decent backpack. You must have a kid’s backpack.

While I absolutely want one, it wont kill the switch.
