Windows 11 does not have great backwards compatibility, try playing something from 10-20 years ago on windows 11, it isn't going to work, steam os with proton however makes backwards compatibility run wonderfully on these older titles

that's not 100% true, there are a lot of old games that the SD cannot play as it is in portrait mode by default and directx of old cannot handle that and so the game will not start, one example is abes odyssey

Any tips for who to buy a Steamdeck from in Australia? I balk at the price on currency conversion!

In my case, I purchased it from Kogan. Not because I trust them, but because their price was very competitive then. My recommendation would be to visit Ozbargain and search for steam deck deals there. Check the comments and ask around if this store/seller can be trusted etc. Good luck

Hibernate may work. But it take longer to wake up and uses a lot more power. It’s not comparable to steam deck’s sleep/suspend.

Nah your wrong, Windows you can do much more and it's easier to navigate than ValveOS. Also, you are showing generic windows handhelds and forgetting about the asus rog ally, which blows away the steam deck in every spec.

SteamOS just isn't for everyone and it's ok, we're all different. You don't have to get it, it's better to have happy users than unhappy ones. There's a market for every people just liek there's a market for Apple, Android, Windows, Google, etc
