Hi Pierre - That's a cool little engine. Flywheel runs nice and true. Pretty fair amount of machining in that. Reminds of the Banggood Stirling engine I reviewed a while back - these little engines are quite amazing. Great review :)

Hi Chris, Those are quite fun, I've not been experimenting with steam im my life, this is a nice introduction, I may get bit and start a new career in steam power machines... ;) Cheers, Pierre
It is a cool little package, seems like a simple, straightforward mechanism. Always been fascinated by steam engines, and my Dad's made a couple that size, but haven't messed with them much. Much yet, that is. :) Thanks for sharing, I have a couple nephews who would love one of those units!

I've watched many videos about KZbin Creators making their own from castings, not having the time yet to start that kinda project, this little engine is the next best choice for me to get some exposure to steam power... Cheers, Pierre

I was mentally bitten by the steam BUG many years ago - ;) Hopefully in the near future , I can put my skills to task with a SOLAR powered steam engine . . . with the correct lens, *and an automatic 'sun tracker' ; the concept could easily provide a few horsepower ! Low r.p.m. & a long stroke would be preferred over a high speed application , since power transmisson can be geared , or belted to suit the desired need. Fun stuff Pierre ! ** With Solar , there is no problem with fuel , as long as the sun shines ! Some of the 'waste heat' can be used for heating the workshop, as well as provide hot water . . .not to mention the MOTIVE FORCE ! ( electricity , and belted power to machines ! ! ! +++ )

If you live in a area where the sun shines most of the year, then, it's quite easy to get by with this energy, main issue is to be able to store all that energy for night or shady days... Too many pulleys or gearings are gonne make you loose lots of energy, the best is to try making a lower speed generator using bigger diameter and more poles. And, for the future there is no other choice than to go with renewable energies, or we're gonna destroy the environment in a very short time, yhose initiatives are more than welcome and desirables. Thanks for sharing, Pierre

Even if energy is not stored, the ability to make use of the POWER as a machine driver would be sufficient enough ! Clean energy is what is motivating me - Nuclear power is generating far too much toxic waste ! One step at a time . . . now back to the grind ! ;) We ignorant humans need to get wise before it's too late . . . "V"

The big human "Profiters" are a big part of the problem, we need to simplify our needs in order to drasticly reduce our imprint on the planet.... It's only a couple of minutes before midnight...

Yes it is a nice toy at that. Their is a double benefit if your alcohol comes from Tennessee in square bottles. I have been told that it does not matter if it is a thumbs up or down they both count as a sign people are engaged in your channel.

Those thumbs issues are gonna end-up in some "Thumbling" beheavior, and, possible bumps on the forehead... lol

I really liked this vid. Thats a great little engine. Did you decide if you needed that starrett level vial?

Hi mrpete, glad you liked the video, and yes about the vial, I sent you my coordinates in an Email about 3 days ago, if needed I could sen it back... ATB, Pierre

Nice video. Fun looking toy. BTW water will put out an alcohol fire. The big extinguisher may be overkill.
@pierresgarage26876 жыл бұрын
Hope that it will have to be used, cause those extinguishers using powder are REALLY messy. The shop so far resisted to plasma cutting and heavy welding projects, so, not too worried about fire, but, better be ready just in case.... Thanks for comment, Pierre

I used to make paraffin lamps out of small mint jars with string for a wick. I always made a vent in the lid by slitting with a knife (tiny slit only). The string (wick) was forced through a very small hole. Lots of people used to make these when paraffin was widely available. The wick looks too loose on your lamp.
@pierresgarage26876 жыл бұрын
Ho colm, Great news... !!1 You're right...!!! Now it works, I stuffed both supplied wicks in the same hole, made a 1.3 millimeter or 0.050" vent, perfect, no more spill, even made a short video that I'll try to put on as soon as possible as an add-on and a corrective... Thanks for sharing your experience, Pierre

This little engine is more to get exposure to steam power, not in a near future, though, but I'd like one day to be able to make a little engine from castings or something similar... Long time ago, about 20 years, I had a little Taig lathe, but not any more, only a big lathe now... ;)

cute little engine, i wonder if a vent hole would solve the pressurizing of the fuel container.

Quite possibly, I didn't want to mess with the original concept just yet, I may try it later... It's a fun little engine, though... Cheers

There is a problem with suggesting using a night light candle, they last hours a lot longer than the water will last. Properly designed engines designed for children should run out of fuel before the water much like Mamod or Willesco. Other than that, looks good.

Good observation, there is a new video on the works where I correct the spillage problem, so to be able to use the supplied alcohol burner without problems...

For as many students from China that study at Universities in the U.S. (and I presume Canada), you would think these companies could hire one that is fluent in English and understands English Grammar to edit their instruction sheets. "The steam engine must not touch the boiler by hand during rotation so as to avoid scald." I definitely do not see a hand on the steam engine that could touch the boiler!

Yep...!!! I just burned myself real bad cause of bad translation, I really didn't know it would come scalding hot... lol One day, in some ideal world the're gonna master English language better than many natives. They're learning fast...
