It's been ten years since I've been to the Lagoon. I've only been there once. I had no idea that these trains and attractions were there. I know where I'm going on vacation next year! I grew up on the Piceance creek. I went to the Rock school for all 8 grades. It was a one room school built back in 1897. The second building was built a few decades later to accommodate the 30 plus students who attended school there. If you google Rock School Piceance creek and see the picture of the students who are standing at the flag pole, that's me in the back in the blue coat. Anyway, loved the show! Thanks again for bringing us along for the ride!

@@robertemmons2260 wow!!!! Wow!! I worked at Brooks Institute. The Ventura campus was an old movie studio. They shot mostly TV shows. The first one was Mike Hammer. The last project was Erin Brockovich. Anyway it was converted from a public school. A real large school on eight acres. So we were sorta converting in back to a school. In this case a film school. Anyway there was a bunch of pictures of the original school hanging in the lobby. The original school was a tiny one room school. Built in 1796. WHAT? Built by Spain when this was a Spanish settlement. And it stayed a school for 170 years! While we were remodeling we came across some of the very old building. But probably from about 1900. The original adobe was long gone. Today it’s the world headquarters for Patagonia.

Thank you Dale and Karen, for sharing the fun time you have visiting amusement parks. Growing up in Southern California in the '60s, obviously I first was exposed to amusement park steam trains at Disneyland and Knott's Berry farm. Also enjoyed visiting travel town in Griffith Park, and riding the 7 and 1/2-in gauge live steamers at the Los Angeles live steamers club. Met Walt on one of my early visits to Disneyland, he let me climb in the cab with him... Also met Walter, at a Rose Parade.... Where he was riding on the Orange County float for that year.To this day, when traveling, I make a point of visiting any amusement park or local attraction featuring rail roads..... And also riding on the full size steamers. Railtown 1897, is in my backyard here in the Sierras. I actually have a friend who's an engineer there, and he's promised me a ride sometime soon. I also remember riding on a full-size Shay locomotive, at nearby Tuolumne City..., back when Glen Bell (founder of Taco Bell) revitalized the West Side Lumber. I could go on, talking about other places I've been and ridden on old railroad equipment...... But I'll stop for now. Anyway, keep these great videos coming. We all enjoy them.😅❤

Probably already mentioned but those are Crown Metal Products locomotives and rolling stock. They were based out of Wyano, PA. The Williams family who owned Crown lived by me in Elizabeth, PA. They had a short track at their home and used to run them from time to time before they were shipped. They always had some locomotive on display in front of their home. When they went out of business I’m told that they sold all of their tooling to Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, NC.

Interesting point-and I’m no lagoon historian-but the Cagney locomotive is actually not a Cagney. It was patterned after a Cagney, but was built in the Bamberger shops. So a bit of neat Utah history there. It was also more than capable of pulling people of all size, not just children. Very neat little loco, and just thought that those facts should be shared 😊
@sidvernon6343Ай бұрын
There was a Cagney, as the Bamberger Ogden Shops copied it in about 1920 iirc. The Bamberger Train that is in the Museum was reboilered and converted to use Propane in 1976 with the opening of Pioneer Village.

@@ToyManTelevision Unfortunately with the increase in traffic to Lagoon and in Pioneer Village, it became increasingly difficult to safely operate the Bamberger Train, and it was permanently retired in or around 1986 or so. The Pioneer Village Railroad was suspended for Lagoon-A-Beach Construction in 1989 and then future planning ideas were put into development, one which would have connected both rail lines in the park into one large loop by 1991. With the down turn in the economy, further plans of park expansion and development of Rattlesnake Rapids, those plans were ultimately shelved.

Couple of quick notes! 1) They do run both occasionally. If there's enough of a crowd, they'll start the day with one and then fire up the second as the demand calls for it. When one's on the loop, the other one loads & unloads in the station, and when the other train blows the Approach whistle, the second train departs, rinse & repeat. 2) I preferred the American class-styled loco too; she & I always had a special bond; much more fun to spend a couple hours with in the morning firing her up. (We would typically start firing the locos about 2 hours before the park opens to get them warmed up & up to operating pressure.) 3) The straight-stack loco -- I've been told -- is actually themed to look more like locomotives they ran in Africa than a straight European styling. Bonus tip: if you ever want a bit of a treat, if you camp at the Lagoon Campground during the summer, make your way over to the area south of the Zoo a half hour before the park opens or so. When they run the locomotive for the first trip of the morning (before it pulls into the station to start picking up the first passengers of the day), they stop off to refill the propane over there, and while stopped, they've got a spot where they blow down the boiler toward the campground. It's fun to watch!
@sidvernon6343Ай бұрын
It is actually based off of a Beyer, Peacock, & Co. 4-4-0 used in India. The locomotive was built by Crown upon that design supplied by Busch Gardens for their Asian themed Houston Park, not Africa.

They run both trains on busier days. The American locomotive is named Meriweather and the European locomotive is named Houston. Meriweather was bought from a park in Oregon known as Pixieland and she originally ran on coal before being refitted for propane. Houston on the other hand was custom made for Busch Gardens Houston before finding its way to Lagoon, making it a one of a kind locomotive compared to the American design produced by Crown. The third locomotive similar to Meriweather used to run on the pioneer railroad that was once in service but is now on display. But since they moved it, it tells me that they might be planning on using it for something in the future. As of right now both Meriweather and Houston have been shipped back to their manufacturer in Pennsylvania to have their steam works serviced and remanned.

@@ToyManTelevisionThat is incorrect information. Orville Gunther’s Crown is permanently displayed by Rattlesnake Rapids, where it has been on Display for 25 years.
