If you have the oven temperature set too high, it can burn the outside before it has time to heat the inside, leaving the inside still raw. If he cleaned off the char and cut into it, the inside might still be perfectly fine.

Skinners's kitchen is so weird for a house whose outside looks that modern. The floor tiles are very big. The stove has no counters beside it and no hood. For a stove that has both an oven and a four-burner range, there are just three things that look like knobs. The burners are unusually small. Then again, between them, he and Chalmers also have only twelve fingers to go with their four thumbs.
