Steampunk Rally Fusion Review - with Tom Vasel

The copy reviewed here is Steampunk Rally Fusion Deluxe Atomic Edition, which includes both the original game and Fusion, plus the metal cogs, which is why it appears to have twice as much stuff as the original game. If you just get base Steampunk Rally Fusion, it has about the same amount of stuff as the base original game. Regardless, Deluxe Atomic is the only way to fly! Cheers!

@@hotdoggington6962 I would go Fusion because I like all the extra stuff it adds, but that's just me. Some people prefer a more simple and pure experience, so they might like the original base game instead. It's kind of like Kingdomino vs Queendomino.

This is so exciting for me, because Steampunk Rally is in my top 10 games. Glad Tom finally was able to give this system a go because I find it to be so compelling. Not to mention, it's a literal ENGINE building game!

I got the KS version that has both games in one box and it's easy to separate them, so we've been adding stuff little by little like it's modular and it works great.

Big fan of this one! Despite being as silly as it seems, I think the dice activation system and venting mechanic is just fascinating and very satisfying... I hope more games take a cue from it. Very charming too, the huge jalopies you can have by the end of a long race are a delight.

Dead Men Tell No Tales is also a very fun (co-op) game in which you reduce the pips on a die (resembling a fire on a cursed ship you have to loot) to extinguish it!

@@dragonlord0078 oh right, I'd heard of that, where it represents the fire burning... Neat! I just especially like here how you can strategically free up spots for reactivations, and how you can say, for a 4-pip activation, place a 3 and a 5 to activate it twice, rather than it having to be a single 4.

I got the original after Sam Healey's recommendation, and loved it. It was a big hit with my friends, so this one was a, must buy for me. In fact it was the first Kickstarter I backed and it opened up the whole KS side of game buying to me :D

Backed this on kickstarter. Played a 3 and 4 player game so far. Its gone down really well with both groups. Tons in the box, and the dice and cogs are great! Only issue for me is the iconography on the race boards, still getting my head around some of that. However as Tom says, add them in bit by bit. Start with a simpler race track.

While the racer tokens are just standees, they're one of the few standees that don't tear or bend as you move them in and out of the plastic stands.

I had the original. Gave it away. While the game is indeed very fun - at first - it got old after maybe 4 or 5 games. Tom mentionned it, but the lack of player interaction killed it in our family. The puzzle you are presented with each game, even though there are tons of different starting cards, always felt the same. It got repetitive. I was hoping this new version adressed this. It does not. Could've been cards with a grappling hook that lets you grab unto a leading player for some free moves. Giant magnets to pull or push yourself from other players. Energy siphons to use against other players. These kind of things would've increased the importance of positioning on the track and increased player interaction. Sadly, it's the definition of multiplayer solitaire.

Nice, we are always looking for an excuse to play some more Steampunk Rally. I learned about it a couple of years ago really enjoyed it, glad to see there is a new one.

Unique indeed. Quite some stuff going on. The ATOMIC version allows you to shift from the base game to the Fusion game do. Great card collection and components nicely captured in the outstanding vac tray. Great stuff from Roxley Games! 🦾

Love me some Steam Punk Rally, but I've yet to play Fusion, even though I backed everything (and now I have a redundant copy of the original). tbh for me and my gaming crew, I feel the additions are not that necessary and I'd probably be happy playing the base game forever, but I can't resist collecting everything

I wished I liked this game more. This was the 1st one my game group unanimously disliked. I really like the engine building aspect, but as a group game it fell flat. You are only looking at your machine and moving your piece without really paying attention to anything else going on. At the end I looked up and so-and-so had already won the game. I like games more when you can see your opponent make that really cool combo. Here you have no idea how they went 10 spaces in one round. I sold this a while ago. Watching this video though makes me want to give it another shot. To be fair, I like Cubitos a lot and it can have the same issue if you are just going for it and people are doing their own thing. I like to slow it down a little and let people take turns announcing their actions for the round.

I had the same problem with it. But if I could find a group that's willing to not play simultaneously, I think I could have fun with it. The engine building aspect was really satisfying.

I have the original and have have sadly only played it a few times, but when I did it was a blast. I have kind of stalled on game collecting recently however I just may pick this one up.

We played this game recently and I wasn't a fan. Everyone was playing their own game. Very solitaire, so much so that you really don't have a clue what everyone is doing. Not too much communication between everyone. Very convoluted. Visually this game is nice. The theme is pretty cool as well. Unfortunately, those two components don't outweigh the negatives for me.
