I like the Rx207’s whistle

Yes, it’s pretty epic, isn’t? It’s a Nathan 6 chime whistle from memory, one of the loudest whistles on any steam locomotive in Australia. Hence why the blokes that fired and drove these gorgeous machines in the SAR era are partially deaf in one ear if not both. These locos are left hand drive and with the whistle just above the cab roof, the drivers would be partially deaf in their right ear and the firemen partially deaf in their left ear. Thankfully, in the modern era, anyone who works in loud environments have access to ear plugs/ear muffs.

Indeed it did, Dave. Loved see double-headed Rx’s and three steam locomotives in operation on the South Coast. Been a while since we’ve had three steamers operational. It was fantastic to see. Got some wonderful photos and film by far. 😍

Can you please do a video on rx191 and how it needs a repaint and that it's running board needs to be fixed

I could imagine that operating three steamers would be quite expensive. Were the trains filled with passengers?

Of course they were, Max. It was three days after Christmas and the Grey Timetable runs specifically for that purpose between the 27th and the second of January as it’s one of the busiest times for the railway and the region. Thus, six trains run a day. Three return services for the Rx’s and another three for 621. They even had to bring extra coaches from Mount Barker to cope with the demand, hence the SAR steel cars on 621’s train and the extra centenaries on the double Rx trains.
