FOX oils: I have a 2017 bike from Scott with fork (elite performance) and shock (evol DPS) from FOX and I did maintenance on them, following FOX instruction, using FOX oils. The result is there are 3 oils: - 5wt inside the fork damper (the non-air side). Very liquid. - 20wt inside fork lower legs and inside air spring). Lot of viscosity. - blue oil inside the shock. This oil is tagged as "anti-friction lube" This blue oil is the one recommended by FOX to lubricate fork stanchions and external seal on top of lower legs. So this oil will be mixed with the one already inside the lower legs as stanchions will pull some of this blue oil into the lower legs. This plus how feel blue oil and 20wt seem to tell they are the same or almost the same. So, if they are the same, two kind of oils are used with FOX: 5wt for oil-damper et 20wt for everything else : ) Now, I don't work with FOX and I'm not even a mechanical guy so think before using these as it comes ; )

@ojanpohja5 жыл бұрын
Of course you can change the travel of a coil fork just as an air one. The coil, just as the air chamber of an air fork, does not change. Just the length of the plunger rod that sticks out of the stanchion. The length of the plunger defines how much the fork can travel before bottoming out.

I had a Sunn Modular S2 26" full rigid MTB, it was a dream XC bike. Pretty light and short bike, you could pinpoint it wherever you wanted it, I never had the feeling I need a suspension fork in front. Fast bike to have lots of fun, and highly efficient on not too rough terrain. You feel the trail more as with any modern suspension bike. (I wouldn´t sell that bike for any money, unfortunately it was stolen so I have to ride modern trail bikes, what are good, but will never fit my riding style as good as my old Sunn.) Steel: easier to repair, you feel a slight flex what smoothens heavy hits a little bit, the only place it really dominates is full rigid bikes for heavy duty like bmx. Old steel road bikes are more comfortable to ride because the frame damps a little bit, but they are simply too heavy. (it will last longer isn´t accurate, alloy and carbon frames are more reliable than ever) I hope everyone understands steel a little bit more now. It has it place for certain riding style.

Reason why I would keep the 2.8 in the back is to keep the bottom bracket high from pedal strikes. Because it’s a plus bike. Also if I had a 29er 2.8 that’s a huge tire and may be to big. I was figuring the 2.6 would be nice. But I ended up just getting a 29er and I like it. Also staying away from plus tires and going back to a traditional tire size.

#askgmbn I'm always scared to jump a gap jump for the first time. How can you find out the speed that you need for a new built gap jump? So, how did the riders in the Darkfest 2018 clear those massive jumps for the first time? Can you calculate the speed that you need to clear the gap or can you test it with -- let's say-- a footbal to find out the ballistic curve? I know that following a rider before you always works, but how can the first rider on a new gap jump know which speed he needs?
@gmbn5 жыл бұрын
Quite often it's the person who builds the jump is the first to send it! Or someone will step forward to be the "guinea pig". This knowledge can only come from experience as whilst you can calculate the distance/ speed using Mathematics this can be inaccurate depending on how the riders hits the lip of the jump. You will see even the biggest of pros working together in practice at events to help each other learn the speeds for different features.

Steel is real we say in the bike industry. Steel rides smooth, flexy and it don’t vibrate. It’s great for hardtails for ride quality and good steel frame are not that much heavier. Maybe half a pound more the aluminum in a medium frame. Aluminum frames can be light but ride quality can suffer. Aluminum has almost no flex to it and you will feel road buzz or trail buzz. Sort of like a guitar string vibration and those vibrations are transferred into your body causing fatigue sad thing is cheap aluminum is more comfortable then nicer more expensive Aluminium. Now carbon is nice. It can be stiff or compliant, Most will be stiff. It’s lighter then anything else and price will be cheaper then a nice steel grace. Carbon gives you aluminum stiffness with the vibration dampening properties of steel plus lightness. Unfortunately, carbon does not take a hit very well. The frame will be stronger under normal riding conditions but it’s more likely to break in a crash then steal or aluminum. Also stay avatar from cheap Chinese carbon frame on eBay or amazon. Aluminum is fine but your cheap carbon fame WILL break on you sooner or later.

I do trail riding with no massive hits but I do ride fairly rough trails and reasonably sized (not huge) jumps. #askgmbn What are acceptable tolerances for wheel alignment for new MTBs ex factory, before experiencing any hard use or crashes? I have a couple of new bikes (same model hardtail 27.5+) here where the wheels are visibly not parallel (in the vertical plane - they form an X) when viewed from the front or rear, with the steering set dead straight. When measuring using a laser level I see an error of at least 1.4 degrees! The head tube appears to not be parallel to the seat tube. The tyre contact patches are offset by about 15-20mm, which will lead to excess wear; are there any safety issues? All the standards seem to address is safety and strength or impact tests, nothing about tolerances at manufacture. Older bikes I have measure absolutely perfect.

Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. #askgmbn hi im looking forward to get my first good mountain bike. Its a used 26 inch wheel bike. So are 26inch wheel bikes good any more? Are they worth it? And what's the difference between 26inch and a 27.5er?

#ASKGMBN hey guys! I was wondering if it is okay to put stuff like a mini pump and maybe 1 or 2 other things in the same pouch as your hydration bladder? I don't like carrying a backpack but now I have to because I'm on a NACA race team and the jerseys don't have pockets. so I want to just carry a little pack but I don't know if it will damage the bladder. thanks guys
@rostonnordell32185 жыл бұрын
the only reason I asked this is because I heard you shouldn't put stuff in with the hydration bladder
@gmbn5 жыл бұрын
Hi, many riding bags that contain hydration bladders also have additional pockets for small items and a pump. Probably best not to place these items directly into the same area of the bag as the bladder is as you could tear it.

#askgmbn Hi, I would like to buy a enduro but since i weigh 100 kg it is better to take wheels in 27.5 or 27'5 +. I do slopestyle and even with 3 bars the rear tire comes out of the rim
@gmbn5 жыл бұрын
For slopestle we suggest using a tube on the rear as it helps keep the tyre seated on big side impacts. You can definitely get away with running tubless up front though to save weight to help with barspins though! 🤘

@@gmbn thank but on quick turn with a enduro do you think 27'5+ as less chance to come out the rims as 27'5 ?

#askgmbn Hey guys, I hope you're having a great day, thanks for the program, GMBN is my favorite channel and I've learned a lot from you. I want to upgrade the drivetrain on my FS short travel XC bike, it currently has a 2x9 drivetrain with a 26-36 chainring at the front and an 11-40T cassette at the back and I want to upgrade it to something better. I was thinking on getting an SLX drivetrain, but my bike frame is made for QR axles, so I need an advice on what's be better to buy: should I upgrade to the previous model SLX 2x11 (not sure about weight but no problem with QR compatibilty and would probably be better for climbing), SLX 1x11 (would be lighter but would loose range for either climbing or plains and descents), should I upgrade to the new SLX, either 2x or 1x (haven't seen the hubs for QR axles in this model and I have no news about my wheels being compatible) or should I completely ditch Shimano and get a Sram NX Eagle 1x12 drivetrain? There are many steep sections where I ride, every week we do rides of around 50K distance and 1000 - 1500 meters of elevation gain in average and I'm sometimes I'm only keeping up with my current lowest gear. Thanks a lot

for long xc rides on varied terrain id go for slx 2x11 with 11-42 cassette. i also recommend to get the xt shifters because they feel much nicer

@@ultiss haven't thought about the XT shifters, nice one and thanks!

Hey Juan, if you remove the cassette and find a thin spacer behind it then you can run an 11spd or some 12speed options. If you do not find a spacer then you will be limited to a maximum of 10 speed. There are some great wide range 1X solutions such as Deore M6000. Or you could purchase a new hub/wheel but this would push the price up. If you want to do this on the cheap you could run a wide range 10speed clutch derailleur and get a compatible narrow wide chainring. Hope this helps 👍

#Askgmbn Hi guys , Another great vid 👍 I have come from always riding DH bikes and got myself a 2016 enduro bike 😎 It has a shimano xtr 11 speed cassette on the back but ,,, I never use the big ( massive cog ) which the previous owner said “he fitted “? To me it’s just dead weight and looks wrong !! 😣 my question is ,,,, Is there anyway I can remove just the biggest cog off the cassette ??? Cheers

#ASKGMBN hi guis, for Enduro race would be better a chainguide with bash or a dh chainguide with the bash and the chain tensioner?
@gmbn5 жыл бұрын
Hi Denny, this all depends on how often you smash your chainring. Many people choose not to run a bash guard these days as they find they simply don't need one and it's just added weight. The same goes for chain guides when running a dedicated 1X narrow-wide chainring. If you are after maximum security and damage prevention it may be worth it for you. Run the setup that gives you peace of mind as you don't want to be worrying about it in a race situation. 👍
