My dad worked in a paper mill that employed some 3000 people. He worked there for 18 years from 1981 until his layoff then on and off until I think 2004-2005. Well one job they had a large metal disk that they dropped on his foot his safety boots saved his life. To put it into perspective he said to take the boot off it had to be cut off and when they had rolled it off from the ledge of a second or third floor area (it was just the half a dozen men no crane or forklift) intending for it to land on the front lawn of the mill (where it would be delta with later). When it landed it disappeared right into the ground like a coin in a vending machine and had to be dug out with machines. A word of advice use your PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Adam is indeed a cartoon character.

I do like this intro, where everyone is listed as a mythbuster, rather than the joining them.

They aren't not listed as a Mythbuster.

Fun fact: one of the best protective footwear today is still the classic Dutch wooded clog.

To this day I think, if they just used more water on the small setup the launch might not be as violent, the issue seems to me that pressure in the bottles got released so quickly that there was not enough time for a clean launch. It’s like launching a liquid fueled rocket and going full throttle from the point of ignition, but usually you ramp up the thrust from around 25% until you got lift off and then you can go full throttle. By using more water the thrust might just build up slowly enough to be not as violent. Judging by the high speed footage, the needed energy was there and also the need thrust but just over a to short amount of time.

Someone who sounds like they know what they are talking about has arrived. The only problem is that this is a show from over 10 years ago and that they are not rocket scientists and are still to some extent restricted by the myth
@jacobscheit41283 ай бұрын
@@user-dj3nq8ty1o true but the amount of water was not determined by the myth but by the small scale tests they did, and even that showed a slower acceleration with more water if I remember correctly. They just opted for more acceleration and a higher max altitude. But some things just don’t scale well enough to make a crude calculation and go for it. It’s still called a bottle rocket and every rocket needs a bit of rocket science.

@@jacobscheit4128 No matter the air/water ratio it can't displace enough material to move even a small adult women because rockets make trust by displacing the fuel either dry or liguid it doesn't matter. Water can't create a pwoerful enough trust even for a short time to launch an adult into the air or just push them along the floor with rollers or something.

I've worked jobs involving heavy machinery where we weren't allowed to wear anything but sneakers for fear of this myth.

Then you can say that have worked in jobs managed by morons.

That sounds like your boss was proven wrong over 10 years ago, and OSHA would have shut them down or at least given them a massive fine. Side note if you got in trouble for using the boots, then that should have been something that you should have been able to decide because the people that test and Certified the boot would know better. Side note 2: if your boss had to pay for your safety equipment in any amount, one of the more expensive ones are the boots, in your average case that is and they could have been using it as an excuse not to have to pay for them.

@@user-dj3nq8ty1o The last such job was around 2012, before this episode came out I think. Not that it would've mattered t the company. Anyway I'm sure the rules have changed by now.
