IX: Bridge would be closed down to the public for repairs possible rebuilding. Possible several car accidents from falling cables upon the road and some major congestion on the roadway for all traffic lovers... Also the train most likely would be deboarded and would have to be removed during the repair progress.. but nothing too serious. X: Bridge would be shut down an most likely torn down due to significant damage to the structure and be rebuilt from scratch. Accidents would me more major with possible loss of life from falling debris and the departure of one of the towers possibly falling down upon the bridge itself. The train would also see more damage and there would mostly likely be injuries on board rom the falling debris above as well as the initial shaking.. XI: Team Fortress Heavy: YOU ARE ALL DED!

On the next simulation, use quakes I to IX. On quake I, skake something a little. Next on II, make all of it discard the physics of reality permanently. On III, shake the toaster a little. On IV, shake a frying pan. On V, make the fridge lose food for better meal loss. On VI, make there be no food but egg toast. On VII, make the sink power down. On VIII, make the meals move to where this channel lives. Last, on IX, the house drops roof. Bonus: on X quake, make the sink spit water out of the kitchenette.

Based on the length, I'd say a truss bridge might have been better suited for this. But, still a pretty bridge. And a nice animation to go along with it.
@Real_Moon-Moon Жыл бұрын
Apparently this is a truss bridge. Based off the fact those cables are decorative. IRL, if those cables snapped, you'd be having a bad day. They usually support the weight of the deck. Or in other words, the roadway. The bridge is too heavy to support its own weight, those cables take the strain and transfer them to stronger points. Literally suspending it in midair. In case you wondered the specific type, I'm pretty sure you built a cable-stayed bridge. It is a subcategory of suspension bridges. Instead of transferring the loads to anchor points on the shore, it transfers them to the towers.

The cables are indeed decorations❤️

@@EarthquakeSim I'm not as well versed with bridges as I am with buildings. Anyway, the main giveaway that the cables were purely cosmetic (Besides them snapping and the bridge being fine after) is that there was no tension, the cables weren't taut. Also, there's a visual difference between normal suspension bridges and cable-stayed ones like this. It is the absence of the main catenary cable. (I'm fairly confident that's the term.) Or in other words, that long arc like cable you can see on bridges like the Golden Gate, the Ambassador, and the Mackinac. Again, I don't know as much about bridges. I'm better at buildings.

Nice simulation! I am curious how you modeled the load bearing portion of the bridge. It looks like a hybrid of a cable-stayed and truss bridge - what actually supports the span? Also, I'm really surprised the cars stayed still generally.

They did a study on the Golden Gate bridge and found that it should hold up fine if the San Andreas fault snaps and causes a Magnitude 8 quake similar to what happened in 1906, which through studies was also determined to by 11 on the mercali intensity scale. They definitely did not fuck around when they built that thing. I would love to see a simulation with that bridge!

Very unrealistic, the cables and towers are clearly just for show. It's the horizontal part that's acting as the structure. In the real world if a bridge has cables and towers they are necessary and the bridge will collapse without them
