Appetite for destruction
Blowing us all away
Poison looking so damned good
I wondered if I was gay
Whitesnake making us bang our heads
In the still of the frickin night
Coverdale banging Tawnie Kitane
And the world all felt just right
1987 I never wanna leave you
when you told me I was in my prime
Why didn’t I believe you?
And the music scene will never be the same
But I didn’t realize that things could get this Lame
Dokken and Lynch were young and hot
They were warriors in a dream
I couldn’t understand the Loudness dude
But man that guy could scream
Ozzy was on the Crazy Train
biting heads off bats
It was long before the KZbin Trolls
And this bullshit snappy chats
1987 You’re always gonna be the best
Like Fresh Columbian cocaine
Off a 19 year old breast
And the kids these days will never understand
What’s it’s like to play an instrument
And be in a band
Growing out our hair
Gettin high with girls
Cranking Scorpions and Priest
Everyone in leather
There never was a doubt
in any of our minds that pretty soon
Dave and Eddie
were getting back together
1987 where did we go astray?
Back then the friends we had were real
And we saw em every day
And no one once got canceled for the things that they say
1987 will forever be the year
When guys wore more lipstick than girls
And no one seemed to care
And the music that we worshipped will live on
Even after all our heavy metal heroes are gone

Anytime you ever hear someone say "things were better back then" we know it means compared to how things are today. While it's mostly true, unfortunately you can't go back. That's what makes it so depressing, it's funny I was in such a hurry to get here because I thought it was better, mostly I was wrong. However, a few nights ago I saw SP for the 3rd time, I had 2nd row pit seats which are so much better than where my seats were back in the heyday at other shows. I suppose not everything about today sucks, hope your mom liked the song.

The 80's had the BEST combination of music that blows todays music away. Every group or individual had their own unique sound and they got that sound without all the gizmos these bands have today. Most of it was 'raw' music. You had the best Top 40, Rock, Metal, Hair Bands, you name it. What's unique and can't be copied is that the music 'SOLD OUT' arenas everywhere worldwide everywhere it went and does so even today when certain bands do a tour. The 80's was just a GREAT time as far as music goes. Oh, I graduated in '85 and was enjoying every damn bit of it. Still do!!!!

Man, does this song capture my thoughts and feelings so perfectly. Turned 18 in October of '87 & graduated in '88. I still remember hitting the record store on Tuesdays to get new releases and bugging the managers to look up what was coming out so I could make sure and not miss a new release. I also remember reading about my favorite bands in the mags and then going and picking up the albums they cited as influences. Such a great time to be young and truly alive.

I was 18 in 1987 and just graduated high school. I can relate 100% to this song. I remember waiting in long lines at the record store. Picking out metal albums by how the cover looked because metal had no radio play. That's how I discovered Mercyful Fate - the album cover. Getting revved anytime Metallica or Slayer or Maiden or whoever came out with a new album. 1987 was peak-metal. \m/ Thanks, Steel Panther. You never disappoint.

Recording technology had made leaps of progress in that time. Imo It was not until late 70's early 80's that the quality of music production reached levels comparable to today. If you listen to a well produced album from the 80's, It still sounds amazing and just as good quality as what is made nowadays. Often better if you ask me as the loudness war had not turned everything into a wall of sound yet. But in the 80's if you listened to a recording from the 50's it sounded old and dated.

Earlier this year in March me and a friend of mine went to one of your shows and had the honor of meeting Michael and Satchel afterwards. You guys really put on a show like no other. Mainly though I really appreciated the time you took going out of your way, walking to the car because my friend couldn't come to you. You were packing up the bus getting things together and fixing to head out when I asked for the favor. He almost shit his pants when he seen you walking back with me. It's one of those unforgettable moments and I smile when I think about it. I have framed my signed shirt, it and the photos taken are proudly being displaying on my wall. I love telling people this story when they see the shrine... Thanks again from the girl from Arkansas (not Oklahoma).
