Just purchased and so far so good. I tried out the Leap at the dealership and found the Gesture was a more sturdy solid and more comfortable of the two. The small play in the upright position is more a bonus for me and the overall support and comfort is making me smile. The arms are brilliant and I adjust them every day when I'm spending time using a phone or tablet at my desktop. A great chair. I'm 5'10" and 190lbs - Standard build.

90 degree sitting is not advised from an ergonomic stand point. That 1-2 inches of movement in the lock position is actually to protect your upper torso and allow a natural movement to your body, thus entice "active" sitting, allowing you to adjust your body and not sit in a passive posture for a long time. It's not a shortcoming, but a purposefully added feature derived from research.

exactly its the reason why herman miller has their embody chair that moulds to your back and flex. Sitting 90 degrees without those minor recline is just stiff and over time your mid back and upper back is gonna suffer. Most staples or office max chairs are like that stiff and when you recline theres no spring action and uncomfortable as hell.

I really like the Amia chair. I think it is the best value (sounds funny because it is still expensive compared to other lower quality products) coming out of the Steelcase line. With that said, we don't have any immediate plans to review it. I would subscribe to the channel if you haven't already done so to catch it when we do review it in the future. GK

Around the 5:25 mark you mention that the chair doesn't work so well for those who might like to sit upright, close to 90 degrees. Is there another chair that works better in this regard that you would recommend? Thanks in advance. Big fan of your videos.
@btodtv
@btodtv 5 жыл бұрын
Nick, thank you for the kind words! The Gesture will work for you sitting upright if you tighten the tilt tension. If you want to recline in the chair, you'll have to loosen the tilt tension again. The Leap is a better option if you want to be able to sit upright, close to a 90 degree position and quickly switch to a reclined position. - GK

Interesting as I found the Gesture more comfortable than the Leaf in seating and the sales person said more men seem to prefer the Gesture and more women the Leaf due to those slight differences there are (leaf skinnier seat with slightly less padding) yet you guys rated the seat comfort more. Also ergonomics, weird how the leaf won more points but has less adjustments than the Gesture? Also back support better? They have the same lumbar adjustment system...... I actually read your Leap V2 review and went in to try and walked out hand down the Gesture as my fav after sitting in both for around an hour. The comfort in the Gesture was superior plus the superior adjustable arms and being able to place them anywhere you pretty much want is fantastic. Oh and the Gesture's headrest isn't terrible like the Leap's as well (like you guys mentioned in the Leap but didn't mention the Gesture where the salesperson was honest and mentioned both saying the Leap is terrible but Gesture's is actually really good)
@btodtv
@btodtv 9 ай бұрын
I question the data the sales guy is using to go off of. I would bet it's his personal opinion on what men and women would prefer and not from actual feedback. As far as the seat goes, when we used this scoring system from this video, we used the opinions of around 12 people ranking from petite women to tall men. It was almost unanimous in favor of the Leap. The Leap has more adjustments than the Gesture because of the 2-way lumbar support so it scored slightly higher when we used a numerical scoring system. Chairs are a personal preference thing, and the Gesture is really popular so it's not surprising that you like it. I will say though that our testing far exceeds an hour sitting in a showroom. We didn't have the Gesture with a headrest at the time of this video. It seems like you are under the impression that we have this ulterior motive that makes us like the Leap better than the Gesture. We simply think the chair is better. Its nothing more complicated than that. -Ryan

I've been having a lot of trouble finding a decent budget chair that locks at a 90 degree angle (like said at 4:57), or possibly even forward a little, are there any that you'd recommend? every chair i've tried has had the issue where the seat reclines back a little even when i have the tension knob turned all the way.

Had poor lumbar support on my old worn out chair and general back issues. So I bought a Gesture after trying out at a showroom. Felt good in the showroom in a 30 minute test. However, after being delivered and owning for 2 days, I now only feel more intense pain in my shoulders (lumbar is fine and feels well supported). Is this normal? Do I just need to give the chair more time to get used to it?

Not a great option for big and tall. They have a high weight rating, but that isn't a good indicator of what size user will fit in the chair. I would focus on the chairs seat and back dimensions. Consider what you need to be comfortable and base the buying decision off that -GK
