Another group of people who may find the Gesture beneficial: people who experience neck and arm issues (with advice from their medical professionals) especially where the two are related. The combination of the extremely adjustable arms and neck / head rest is a winning combo! It’s also quite comfortable to sit sideways while reading / watching things. The headrest can tuck into the side of the neck when the chair is reclined, providing some variation to sitting to stretch one side of the back without compressing the joints on the other side. Thanks for your informative, helpful and thorough reviews.

I'm 193cm (I think that is like 6ft 3') and have a gesture with no headrest (I'm also kinda light for my height, I'm 80kg) A few comments on this chair: - seat: Absolutely agree the seat cushion is really comfortable and the adjustments make it so that you can tune it just right, you can also adjust it while seated which makes finding the right position a lot easier and is something most cheaper chairs wont allow you to do. (I cant praise this seat enough, it make me want to do more work, this may not be as comfortable if you are heavier) - arm rests: also a great point for this chair, the only issue I have with them is that for someone who is tall the actual "pad" is a little too short, is if you want to rest a good portion of your arm and have them extended, a good chunk of the arm is going to be left un supported both before and after the pad, not a deal breaker though, just something I wish was a little different (the pads are more of a soft rubber than an actual pad, really comfortable, the most comfortable I've seen) For me the thing that makes me not like the chair that much is the backrest: the issue with the lumbar support you mentioned can be really uncomfortable, the actual lumbar support is comprised of the backrest (which is nice) and a VERY stiff plastic bit that you can adjust up or down, the issue is that as you recline is will find a position that is not comfortable and it becomes REALLY uncomfortable, like having to take a break uncomfortable. also when you lock the backrest upright (this might be my particular unit that may have an issue) it still has some recline, and when you lean forward a little it wont return to the proper upright position, this would not be an issue if the shape of the lumbar support was not as aggressive, as you said this makes for a VERY NARROW comfort window, for the seat to be comfortable you have to seat just right or it will punish you. Its a shame because the lumbar support gets in the way of the rest of the backrest when you want to recline. I wish that plastic bit was removable, it seems that would make the chair not as comfortable with perfect posture, but have more comfortable positions when seated. I bought the chair because it was the only one I could get my hands on where I would have support all the way up to my shoulders and not have a backreast that would stop at my mid back section an leave the rest un supported. If you are tall and looking for a good chair do consider this, but I would recommend you spend as much time seated with your back supported to try it out and see if you like it, first impressions can be deceiving, the backpain you get when not using the chair properly sets in after a while, not right away. edit: also about how hot it is -> Somehow the fabric cushion does not get uncomfortably hot, I have it at a place with no AC and we can get about 36C during the summer, the arm rests can make you sweat a little since they are rubber and have 0 "breathability" but the seat and backrest are somehow able to not be uncomfortable.

I'm 5'3. Best chair of my life. Every single one of my short female coworkers also loved this chair. As a short woman there are nearly zero chairs made for us. Not sure this chair is fully loaded since it is missing the shell back which I would guess would make it a wee bit more flexible. This chair is like an anti fatigue mat for you body. I did try this chair in 2017 so I'll be contacting customer service to see if anything changed. If not, it's not for tall people. If you're short you need the following config: adjustable lumbar , (thinner) shell backing, and no headrest. Instead of the lumbar being aggressive could it be better for women? Are you aware our lumbar spans more vertebrae and is different? I more than strongly disagree the chair is for tall people. It's unfortunate the headrest isn't removable because my opinion it makes the review inaccurately depicted for tall people. You're reviewing a configuration most people won't buy since it's a $230 add-on for that headrest and you're reviewing a configuration that is ill suited to you, which should poorly reflect not he salesperson and not the chair. I can see the headrest makes you sit in a manner where you even look uncomfortable(subjective) but more importantly: objectively your head is not positioned ergonomically well as a result. Although this does address my concerns about the head rest, so thanks for helping decide absolutely not on that. Thanks for a genuinely honest review.

One important thing that I didn't hear you mention in your review is that it lacks locking in the arm-rests. It drives me crazy how it moves so readily compared to my Embody. Another thing about the chair (unless I'm mistaken) is how it doesn't lock in one of the reclined positions. I feel like this chair is always pushing me forward, just some customizable things I wish Steelcase thought of! I've been using this chair daily for about a month, love your videos Ahn!

You’re right about the arms - I didn’t see it as a huge issue, but see it bothers folks! The push forward is real…some people love it, some people hate it. Plus my job is mainly remote and I play PC games a lot, so it makes sense to invest in a good chair. I decided on the Gesture mainly due to the headrest and ability to recline. 6'3" here... I dunno... the one glaring "concern" I have had with my Gesture from day one is the depth of the seat.. I think its short. I see how when you sat down the seat pad edge looked like it came nicely to the your kneejoint with what looked like a two-three fingers thick space.. mine feels like it reaches mid-thigh and when I roll/extend the extra depth the back of my butt feels that back edge, and its experienced as a pressure point.. I feel the gap. I'm a "slim-ish" guy not a lardass (no offense to the lardasses intended 😉) so it aint cos I got junk in the trunk syndrome.. Not complaining tho.. I've found a sweet spot that I can live with, but I do still feel the seat is not ideally as deep as it could/should be.. Mine has black upholstery.. yea.. that mofo in the summer can be a heat soak if it lives in a hot room as mine does up in an 'attic' office that can roast you pretty good in the summer. I sit on a Leap v2 at work.. That little bit of seat upward articulation when you recline does that little extra to make it a pleasure all day, but it doesnt blow your doors off.. but I must say, I've found everyday allday "perfection" with the Think v2..

Yo Dan, maybe you or a commenter can offer some advice First off: 5’7” / 150 lbs; old IKEA Volmar with headrest/no arms has served me well for 10+ years but I now really need some armrests to help practice decent ergonomics I’m at my desk for everything - design/animation for looong hours, gaming on PC and console, watching movies, etc. When I’m working, I’m happy being forced into a rigid ergonomic position (my current chair’s firmness helps with that I guess), and when it’s time to relax, I really appreciate the recline/tilt lock and my headrest, even if it’s just a fixed piece with a 1 cm thick pad. The most expensive chairs I’ve been able to try out recently are the Leap v2 and Aeron Classic. I love the way the Aeron forces me to sit; seems best suited for work. The Leap though is so much more flexible and adjustable. What’s keeping me from pulling the trigger on either is the headrest issue. The Aeron has the aftermarket Atlas option of course, but when relaxing I shift into all kinds of unhealthy positions - with all the hard plastic it’s got, the Aeron looks less ideal. The Leap looks better suited for it, but ofc no one is a fan of the Leap w/ headrest. When I tried both these chairs, neither had a headrest and it didn’t feel like either needed one, so there’s that too. This vid makes me think the Gesture w/ headrest could be a good middle ground. Any thoughts/anything else worth considering?
@Ahnestly2 жыл бұрын
A gesture is really nice, but I've heard a few things... 1. taller people GENERALLY like the Gesture better. Shorter people like me, as stated, find the lumbar a little high up. 2. people complained a lot about the "thinning out" of the seat pad over time. Hope this helps! My personal recommendation is buy a NEW Gesture and test the *(&#$ out of it during the trial period and then either return or keep or return and buy a used one of that's what you want to do!

I commented on that video though…it is crazy that all 5 ran into the same issues, and that is bad. But he wrote in his pinned comment that warranty is irrelevant here, but I would gently disagree. The reason you pay the extra cost is for “insurance” for if/when the chair breaks down, so would have been interesting / more of a complete video if steelcase also never delivered on their warranty promise.

Please do a video Embody vs Gesture as they seem to be similar For me, I found the lumbar of the Embody to more aggressive than then Gesture. I use the Gesture and am around 5’6 There are some people who take out the lumbar or set it to the lowest if your not a fan of the lumbar

Interesting...I don't find the embody's lumbar aggressive. Although you have to sit in the Embody in a certain way that makes it seem more aggressive. I had to send my Gesture back, so won't be able to make a video on it, but maybe once the Embody gets a headrest, I can do a comparison then!

@@Ahnestly I really want to love my embody but I just can’t get the back rest configuration right. What settings you do use for your embody? Do you sit all the way back in the Embody? I find there a bulge that just pushes against my spine when I sit all the way back so I have to move my butt abit forward so that there’s a gap between the backrest which puts me a more recline position. I’ll keep giving it some more tries… I’m always curious why people say the Gesture has aggressive lumbar when if anything, the Leap V2 has a more ‘hollow’ sitting experience and adjustable depth lumbar which I feel is more aggressive.
