To be honest, Yngwie’s playing on Suffer Me is one of the best solos he ever did, in my opinion, but with Vai’s version, it’s just so different, but just as emotional. I could cry to both…
@tedcabana11 ай бұрын
Oh, Please.. Steve. Do we need to see any more to know that you are the Greatest of all time? No! But, still you went ahead and gave us so much more than we thought possible, and we thank you for that. You are second to none!
@MusicissuperiorEVHROX3169 ай бұрын
It’s very different to Yngwie’s take, I have to say, but the way that Vai plays it, it’s more of a piece in its own right than a fade out guitar solo, like the original version was. That’s not me saying I like either one better; even though I like Steve better than Yngwie, I don’t think either was better or worse. Yngwie’s guitar wailed with all the sadness and fury of a thousand tortured souls, whereas Vai’s guitar pleaded to the universe for forgiveness for the song’s narrator’s sins…and because of those two separate emotional impressions, both solos were indescribably powerful in different ways. I’m not Christian btw, I’m just thinking in the sense of the song when I say “sins”

His first show with Alcatrazz was a difficult one, he was nervous and poorly prepared, and it showed. A huge crowd of enthusiastic fans were gathered watching them, expecting to see Yngwie play, who had literally only just left the band, so instead they got Steve Vai…who doesn’t play anything like Yngwie. He had only just been brought in from Frank Zappa, and he’d only had one day to learn the entire set. During “Suffer Me”, fans got angry and started yelling things like “you suck” and “I want my money back” at Steve, bless him. He hasn’t ever sucked, but man the guy has been put in some tough positions.
