AND the tone he gets from his hands is pretty special as well. Always thought the warmth of the RW board on his Sadowsky guitar was part of that tone on that concert. I sure enjoy playing my disc on occasion.

Standards are so low nowadays that I don't think Steely Dan would become mainstream as they were in the 70s, too cerebral, dry and sophisticated. A tight groove provided by the late great Ricky Lawson together with Walter's tasty guitar licks weighing in. Superb performance as always.

Agreed 100%. Couldn’t have summed that up better myself. These guys never get old and their incredible sound will always remain apart from any other band (ever!). A band that was always meant to fly below the radar for mainstream (IMO) and definitely unsurpassed IMO.

I love practically everything I’ve seen of this “concert” made for an album release-yes, I have the DVD-but the changes Donald makes to the phrasing in the chorus of this song do not work for me. They are changes made solely for the sake of changing something, I believe. Too bad, because they distract from a masterpiece of a song. I can see why this one was left off the DVD.

Can someone please explain the real otherworldly-appeal of SD? I mean, of course extensions chords, great players, kind of interesting lyrics.…But why are people so over the rainbow? It’s jazz, pop, rock, soul, yacht rock. Or do you just have to be so sophisticated to get it? I mean, I like it, some of it a lot… But I just don’t get the hyperbole. Even Blood , Sweat & Tears get me higher, if we’re talking seventh chords and horn arrangements.

Walter part of steely dan but fully an Ax Slinger. Han'l it boy!!!! Oh funny story: in one of the James Bond movies Diamonds Are forever therein is fatured a rather peculiar duo who are hired to do some wet work. They were cast as a couple of gays( not that there's anything wrong with it) of course Sir Sean dispatched them with low key British wit and a rather tasty Bombe. ( the fancy French pastry you Igors ) watch it I found it amusing especially when they held hands after killing a helicopter pilot. Most casual violence and implied sex which is how prefers Bond Movie. Dry even droll funnies then someone dies. Nice...

I was really thinking that Walter was going to phone in the solo like he usually does......But this was different. He actually worked out a good solo that he could play, and then practiced it. Too bad he stepped all over the cool trumpet solo.
