While I normally liked him, Paul Shaffer is such a clown in this video. First he wears white when everybody else is in black, walks in front of Walter while roaming the stage for no apparent reason, all so the camera is certain to find him, then he has the audacity to give Donald Fagan a cue at 8:27 that it's time for him to start singing again. Geez.

Let's face it Frank. These jam sessions at the R&R HoF are a three ring circus. I mean, Steely Dan wasn't even a group. It was two songwriters and dozens of studio players and singers. They were using them as far back as their 1st record. I still think that at least one third of their fan base thinks Skunk Baxter played the guitar solo parts on "Reelin' in the Years."

It's truly a shame that these two guys fired Roger Nichols during the making of "Everything Must Go." It comes as no surprise that Becker's "11 Tracks of Whack" is a better CD than "EMG." And then to not even credit him when accepting their awards? Nichols was perhaps the most gifted and technologically advanced engineer in music history when you consider that George Martin spent more than half his time being the Fab 4's producer. I have never been to a stereo store where they didn't have "Aja" or "Gaucho" playing to demonstrate hi end systems. The man was a genius - so much so that I truly feel Steely Dan would have sold one third less records without Nichols behind the board. I had many email exchanges with Roger over the years, and he was the nicest guy in the world. When Nichols died to pancreatic cancer, Becker & Fagen didn't even send flowers or show up to funeral. When Roger was fired, his family said he was on his knees crying that a 30 year relationship had been ruined just so a couple of guys could be asses. I never blamed Becker & Fagen for putting musicians thru hell in the studio, but Roger worked even harder than they did. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Who are the two female backup singers for Steely Dan's HOF performances? They were not SD's regulars.
@Mama-Ames3 жыл бұрын
No. They ARE NOT. THEY COULD NEVER BE SD's Regular back-up singers, who are the very talented Carolyn Leonhart-Escoffery & Cindy Mizelle. THESE ALLEGED "singers" not only SUCKED vocally, they CLEARLY have ZERO rhythm!!! These POSER "musicians" were ragingly unworthy of sharing the stage with BRILLIANT GENIUSES Walter Becker & Donald Fagan. The performance of the "House" posers completely insulted my intelligence. They SUCKED SO BAD, watching & listening to this nearly shut-down my entire central nervous system!!! And what was with the Paul Schaffer look-alike in the white dinner jacket?!?!? Or was that actually him "Directing"... wait for it... BECKER & FAGAN?!?!? The audacity of it all is SO STAGGERING... I can't help but wonder... Could this have been a big R&R HOF "Middle finger" right back at Becker/Fagan?!? If not... then whoever organized this HOF "House Band" should be unemployed!!! IMHO, Becker/Fagan's previous assertion about the R&R HOF has been 100% validated. I personally can't believe they didn't walk off the stage! AND... after THIS disastrous "cluster-F" of a "House Band" they can both now look square in the eye the "powers that be" at the R&R HOF & say, "I rest my case."🙏♥️🇺🇲✌

I am sure he is not happy with it either. Stylistic mismatch. Brian is a GREAT rock guitar player (he's probably been on the cover of more guitar-oriented magazines than every Dan studio guitarist COMBINED). But the R&R HoF is insistent on including musicians playing with other musicians who are being inducted the same night. They wouldn't care if they combined Steve Vai and Segovia!
@robmorrison1043 Жыл бұрын
The solo was brutal. Any high skilled player would have done better. Do you think Clapton or Beck would have ever ruined a performance with amateurish playing. I've seen Clapton sit in with pop, jazz and R&B artists and just be phenomenal as usual. Because May was on covers of magazine's, means nothing. Steely Dan's guitarists were on a different level then May. Look up Jeff Baxter, Larry Carlton, Dean Parks and Elliot Randell. Jimmy Page called Randells solo on Reeling in the years, one of the best he has ever heard. Heck, original Dan guitarist Denny Dias was phenomenal in his own way. Only the best, top shelf musicians played on SD albums. There was no excuse for a top shelf player to butcher a solo like that.
