Yours has been one of the best videos. Why doesn’t everyone degrees and pressure wash before this job? There are replacement power steering hoses that don’t do the GM leak 2 months after installation🤪

It's always good idea to power wash all parts before the repair but that option wasn't available. I washed power steering lines with brake clean before disconnecting them. We don't any leaks ever since.

Wow, great video! Why does power steering fluid look dirty? My vehicle uses ATF fluid and it's pink!

Great point! It was old and dirty)

Great video, I've found that a 6" 2 jaw puller works great for removing the idler/pitman arms fr the center link. I tried using a pickle fork for a while and had no luck, gear puller + impact took it off in a second.

Thanks for the info!

Why did you change it? Leaking it was it locking up? My steering doesn’t really turn the wheels when the truck isn’t moving. Just trying to diagnose if it’s actually my box. I’ve changed the pump. Thanks

Great job ....do the wheels have to be off of the ground?
@PistonShack3 ай бұрын
Yup, it takes load of the steering and suspension.

That looks like a lot of work! How long does it take to re&re a power steering pump on this Chevy?

Nice video. Do you recall what the socket size is for the big nut on the pitman arm and gearbox connection? You marked it at the very end but didn't note the size for removal. Thanks!
@PistonShack Жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly nut is 1 5/16.

What is the torque specs for the pitman arm nut on the spine gear
@PistonShack2 жыл бұрын
Hey Kyle. I believe that's 175-230 lbs ft. for the big nut and 60-75 lbs ft to the drag link. But verify with the manual.

I’m replacing the gearbox now. Do I need to index anything on installation? Or bolt it all back up? I see you marked the original alignment.

Hey Digging! If you transfer pitman arm to the new steering box, make sure it centred - it has even degree turning to the left and to the right counting from the axis mark. What I mean measure how much pitman arm travels from left to right then divide it a half, find centre set it up. That's way I did. Always works perfect, if you of course set your wheels straight before removing anything.
