Yes, Stefan destroyed Mats here (poor Mats), Stefan would have won that final against Lendl without that painful stomach injury , a sad memory for me as a big Edberg fan , also the 91,92 and 93 tournaments in Melbourne

@@jeromelevillain9301 Exactly, also one year later similar drama with 2 unused matchpoints against (again) Lendl

@@jeromelevillain9301 Yes, Stefan would have won that match. Stefan and Lendl had a rematch in Japan Open final 3 months later, Stefan thrashed Lendl in that match 1,5,0. It was also one of those matches Stefan was in the zone pretty much like here in this match and his USO run in 91.

0:56, an error. Wilander did not win Boston in 1989. He lost the finals against Gomez.

Perfect display of s&v by Edberg. But AO had really the worst camera angle. To far away. Almost like floor plan 💀

I dont know how did Edberg injured himself during the Lendl match .. it wasnt as if he´d played a grueling 5 set marathon against Wilander and forced his body ... he destroyed Wilander easily, without sweating and looking fresh and good ... maybe the tension, the stress during the lendl match, who knows ...

Edberg was injured during the last couple of points in this match. He said that during his post match interview after Australia Open final against Lendl.

@@jliang70 How sad ... he was playing better than Lendl, he looked in command ... he would have won in straight sets no doubt.

@@rebecalinares5393 Yes, I was a Stefan Edberg fan since he was a junior, he was such a graceful player, like a true artist and he made the game simple and efficient. 89 was a bad year for Stefan, he was injured in the 4th round against Pat Cash and would have been favorite to get through Muster in QF, then for another tilt with Lendl in semi. Then the heart broken FO against Chang and Wimbledon. His form in 89 AO was also great and probably near what he showed in 90 AO. I remembered Lendl also commented about Edberg's serve after 1990 AO, he felt from the first point that something wasn't right with Edberg, he said Edberg was serving with about 60% of his usual pace but he was frustrated as Edberg was outfoxing him for almost 1.5 sets and also served for 2nd set despite the injury.

@@jliang70 Against Chang he should have won it; probably the saddest moment for me personally growing up .. it was inconceivable that he had lost to a kid, after being up 2 sets to 1 and break points in the 4th ... he got tired by rushing the net on clay point after point ... he should have mixed it up a little then, to recuperate some oxigen and finally beat the s%$# out of Chang. Bud Collins was calling "footfault" on NBC everytime Stefan served it was tiring really

I think he'd pulled out the previous year with a similar stomach injury
