The Baumann Effect Develop your Style and a Conversation on Canvas
Inspiring Millions to paint outdoors This video is about Touch Move and Inspire. Get a free Book at his website www.StefanBaumann.com. The paintings of Stefan Baumann reveal the true spirit of nature by transporting the viewer to distant lands that have gone unseen and undisturbed. With the huge success of Baumann’s weekly PBS television series “The Grand View: America’s National Parks through the Eyes of an Artist,” millions of people witness for themselves the magic Stefan portrays on canvas, his passion for nature and the American landscape. By distilling his love of nature into a luminous painting of brilliant, saturated color that transcends conventional landscape and wildlife art, Baumann has captured the hearts and imaginations of a generation. Each painting becomes an experience rather than merely a picture - a vivid manifestation of his special and personal union with nature and the outdoor world. Through his mastery of light, color and artful composition, Baumann invites you to experience nature in its purity. It is no wonder that for many years distinguished American collectors, including former presidents and financial icons, have sought out his work.

Here's a greeting from the Czech Republic! I'm a self-taught artist, currently struggling with light/shadow, and your videos have been a big help on my lonely painting journey. :) Also, I'm a landscape artist too, so I find your advice very helpful. Thanks for the great videos and keep them coming. :)

I have thought about the age old question of "style" and I believe that style is not chosen, it is the "RESULT" of striving to create a better version of your own vision. Many people can emulate others, or paint within "a" style... but to be unique, and have others say "that is a Chris Griffith original" you have to be able to forget about style to achieve it. (I in no way believe I am there yet, lol)

I think this one is my favorite yet. You're really making me think. I'm also building up my desire to paint outside because I SEE what you're saying. My eyes filtered through my mind have a different story to tell than the camera. The camera has no mind so has no story. A painting has a whole story attached to it because it's not actually static, its fluid. Thank you Stefan! Blessings to you my dear friend ❤

That's why I love you... "I teach you how to see..." With you ( & just a couple others I watch) it's about being an artist, not just "placing" objects in a canvas. Something with wonder and some feeling. Thank you for this 👽👍

Thanks Stefan, you've actually gave me a push into a direction I've been in doubt about. Someone asked me to paint some abstracts. I had some lovely photos but haven't used them for paintings but a shall now because I can abstract from them and use your light/dark that way. Off to my studio now, to change the world ;) Thanks again.

Commercial canvases, no matter how expensive, are sprayed with gesso, and not given more than one coat. This leaves them very inadequately covered. Same goes for a commercial panel. The panels will appear more solid, just for the nature of the stiff backing not absorbing as a canvas does, but it is the same issue. When anyone sells something, they try to get the most for the least.

Not to take away from all your much appreciated and impactful classes. This hit my creative core because my tenacity is a borderline obsessive. i have that tight rope critism that I have to internally fight away from confidence. Starting is the hardest part. I take that back. Stopping when I need to takes the cake. Which is why dedication to discipline in nurturing unwavering self confidence in embracing my style. Life bleeds into the art and im grateful for your metaphoric kick in the ass. A Big push getting out of my head as a creative recluse by just feeling. That simply to me means just start mixing my values.

I recently upgraded from the cardboard canvases to at least cotton stretched canvas because I have a couple of paintings that I think could sell for enough to buy more paint, but I hesitate to sell something painted on cardboard. Honestly considering jumping to aluminum, the paint will almost always degrade faster than primed aluminum sheet. Price-wise, looks like ~2-3x the cost of MDF depending on the thickness you go for relative to 1/8" aluminum which will be all but bulletproof.

Love this all so true… painting from a picture, drawing and copy, I don’t feel like I am painting, it feels like when we were colouring in colour books when I was young or painting with numbers like you say, I never liked copying a picture or someone’s painting, I’d rather not paint then paint from imagination, or live. And for canvases you made me smile, when I started to paint I bought an easel from Costco and the canvas was just drinking the paint did not matter how many layers I was putting on. Lol

Yes Stefan the person I was following was telling me he's using a copper plate and it confused the shit out of me. I know the masters use to use copper plates to make print, scratch and ink. Never just painting on them though plus I though wow that's expensive. Thanks for ur video's & the Baumann Effect.

I'm not yet an oil painter - but I swear by ampersand board for my acrylics. I use their Clayboard, and I airbrush a base color. This provides a nice undertone, (i usually go with burnt umber) and also keeps the board from being so slick. I've never been able to deal with "canvas" painting.
