Of all the airports I park at in Europe (I'm an A320 pilot), the best ones have reflective glass infront of the aircraft at the gate, angled a bit, so that sitting in the cockpit I can see the aircraft in the window reflection. Not to look at the aircraft so much, but to monitor the bag loading, refuelling, servicing etc. (Amsterdam is the best for this). It's probably a bit late to mention as I doubt they'll redesign the windows now....

That's coming, you will be able to stay on the same train at St Marys and travel through to central is my understanding
@peterhoz25 күн бұрын
Nothing wrong with 2 trains. That's how most metros work, easy interchange between lines. The Bankstown metro will eventually be extended through Leppington. Similarly the Tallawong will be extended to connect with St Marys. However St Marys to airport is a different setup, voltage and all, so they'll need to convert it if they want to run through trains from Tallawong. Brought to you by the same people who decided that a 24/7 international airport doesn't need a fuel pipeline, trucks will be fine. You're looking at 3 trucks for every 2 planes on average, so there'll be a helluvalot of trucks running out from Botany! Let's hope they don't get caught in their self-made traffic thus delaying the flights. Why does AUS always look for the quick fix, save money on capital but end up with a massive and ongoing operational expense?

A general aviation one-off fly-in would be great. If not, maybe you can ask ... agitate for ... a GA approach day. When I was flying out of Fairoaks (near London as you'd know), I remember - at least hope my memory still serves me - being told that Heathrow allowed, at least back then, on the quietest day of the year (Christmas Day? New Years Day?) for light aircraft to run an approach and go-around^h^h^h go-away on one of the runways. Would be great if WSA could allow this just once.

Get the boys from Sydsquad KZbin channel and others such channels to consult on where to locate viewing platforms. Their product is a visual medium. They'll find the best places to watch from. Oh and you've got have viewing platforms at each end of the runway for that spectacular head on shot and then the French chef kiss moment as the plane goes directly overhead. Make a fake Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower accessible from the terminal as a viewing area. Mock up of ATC desks and have actual ATC communications piped in over speakers in the viewing area. Could be a focus for school excursions. The plane that had, "engine" trouble. Nice gluasad mate. Will be remembered like the fellow on the Harbour bridge who ducked and weaved the official guests to be the first to cut the ribbon. Need to think a bit more about tourism. Transferring tour groups out to this place ( most groups and individual tourists stay in Sydney CBD)will put at least an extra hour on the trip. The costs in hiring coaches, taxis, ubers etc...will be pretty steep. I say at least an hour as we all know M5 M7 and M4 can be a nightmare at the best of times, no t counting the amount of tolls. Taking a coach out there, or shuttle bus, and then having to race back to the city for another job is going to blow the costs for operators out of the water. These costs will, of course, be passed on. Australia is not only an expensive place to come to but takes a long time to get here. We need to encourage tourists, not sllug them with yet more costs
@jamesharris981623 күн бұрын
Western Sydney Airport will be used primarily by budget airlines like Jetstar, scoot and Air Asia X. Ill be shocked if you'll ever see a qantas widebody there.
@Royalpaininbum23 күн бұрын
@jamesharris9816 oh. Is that a figment of my imagination that Singapore are already committed to it. This will open the floodgates for airlines who want to do a quick turnarounds rather than park overnight seeing as it's 24 hour. You can bet airlines like QATAR and Emirates will be out there doing midnight departures. QANTAS are already committed to setting up a terminal . I reckon ANZ will love some early departures as well.
@jamesharris981623 күн бұрын
@@Royalpaininbum Emirates and Qatar will do it if they get australian govt approval for more flights but I'll be shocked if they move existing capacity from YSSY. YSSY is a business hub and airlines like Qantas who's bread and butter is business class travel will not shift from YSSY. You may see QF move some Asian routes that are tourist based with little or no business travel such as SYD-BKK/MNL to appease regulators. I see all those QF flight numbers change to JQ anyway. Watch Qantas commitment turn into a Jetstar terminal. Asian budget carriers like Scoot and Air Asia X will move. Some new ones may arrive also unless they get slugged massive landing fees. Legacy carriers like Malaysian, Thai and Singapore may move one flight (the late arrival which stays overnight) over to Badgerys but I feel that Singapore will take a hit in their business class sales. They just dumped Canberra as they thought they could get a slice of that government business travel which didn't happen (wonder why). Also think about transfer options especially to regional centres. I don't forsee regional leaving syd unless forced to. Just look at who comes and goes out of YMML after 11:00pm to 6:00am and they're the ones who will take advantage of Badgerys. Cargo ops will move lock stock and barrel out of YSSY. Cargo ops out of Bankstown will also stop which may make Bankstown financially vulnerable

It has to be the most pathetically thought out rail infrastructure project Australia has ever seen. Worse than using 3 different gauges across neighbouring states. At present I’m 35 minutes on 1 train from Kingsford Smith. If Badgerys Creek gets the flights I take, it will be 3 trains + a metro, and literally doing 3 sides of a square to get there. Just the 3 trains will be over 90 minutes and I don’t know what the metro will take. Leppington station is one of the closest locations to WSAP, why don’t the just extend the heavy rail tracks into there? It would open up a huge corridor for passenger movements back into the heart of Sydney (or to Kingsford Smith) and take many cars from the south and south west off the roads. But no, they rather build more toll roads for their buddies to rake in more cash from those who can least afford it.
@ronvorbach146420 күн бұрын
@@commodorenut Ideally it would be suitable to extend Mascot`s rail line direct through Glenfield to WSI. Alas I`m am just an old timer and what would I know?
@commodorenut423820 күн бұрын
@@ronvorbach1464 That's exactly what I was referring to. They already have heavy rail from Mascot to Leppington (change at Glenfield) and it would be a simple task to extend Leppington to BC if it's done now, before development wipes out all the corridors. It would open up the entire south west to WSIA, via train. It would also be far simpler to send tourist into Sydney on one train, with no changes, which could easily be achieved that way. At present someone in Leppington needs to do almost a full circle via Glenfield, Parramatta & St Marys, back to BC, taking over 90 minutes, to travel what would ideally be just 15km of track (as the crow flies) if Leppington were linked. But the NSW Govt is hell bent on freezing out the SW and W (except to fly planes over), in order to spend NSW money on the NW suburbs. If they cared about the west then Tallawong would already be linked to St Marys. Before the line was finished, the member (the guy who replaced Parrot-tay) was campaigning at Castle Hill one day, and someone said to him "I heard you don't want to link Tallawong to St Marys because your constituents don't want the westie bogans riding on their new NW metro." He was lost for words. There's likely some plausible substance behind that claim....

lol there is barely any point to using a digital control tower, only benefit is that control tower staff will not have to travel as far, there are many down sides though which include the equipment being more expensive, the electricity being more expensive, maintenance being more expensive, more prone to failures and most importantly, its not as safe as you cannot hear your surroundings if you are not there and controllers do not get a sense of depth, cameras are also never as good as the human eye so they might have issues seeing planes that are far away
