Herzlichen Glückwunsch! Nicht nur zum Titel, sondern auch zu diesem gelungenen Video. Eine super Mischung aus Erlebnisbericht mit großartigen Bildern der Landschaft, ein paar wohl platzierten Verbraucherhinweisen, die thematisch gut verknüpft sind und nicht zu aufdringlich wirken und den Tips und Tricks für den Segelfliegerkameraden, der sich gern beim Weltmeister was abschauen möchte. Vielleicht kommen ja auch noch etwas anspruchsvollere Tips aus dem Bereich Strategie und Taktik für die Leute, die schon etwas Erfahrung haben, aber an Details feilen möchten?! Ich freu mich auf die Fortsetzung der Reihe.

Hi Stefan, wie hat sich die AS33 gegen den Ventus 3 geschlagen? Hast du unterschiede zwischen den Flugzeugen feststellen können, wie das der Ventus etwas besser steigt, die AS33 dafür besser im Geradeausflug ist? Danke im Voraus!

Du wirst hier von Stefan sicher keine Antwort auf Deine Frage erhalten, weil das wahrscheinlich eine riesen Disskusion mit einem Haufen mytischer Argumente auslösen würde. Was Du Dir aber sicher sein kannst ist, dass der leistungsmäßig größte Unterscheid zwischen den beiden Flugzeugen immer das Geschwür am Steuerknüppel ist.

Bei dem guten Wetter hatte man schon deutlich den Flächenbelastungs-Unterschied gespürt. Im dynamischen Geradeausflug geht die AS33 merkbar besser als der Ventus 3. Im Kreisflug kann man den Ventus 3 am engsten kreisen, die AS33 hat aber noch einen messbar kleineren Kreisdurchmesser, als die JS3 und steigt somit besser (AS33). Mit den sehr großen Gleitstrecken, war die Steigleistung weniger wichtig als die Gleitflugeigenschaften. Ich war auf jeden Fall äußerst zufrieden mit meiner Flugzeugwahl. In Deutschland bei mittelmäßigen Bedingungen werden die Unterschiede nicht so deutlich zu sehen sein. Für eine detaillierte Analyse kann man sehr gut WeGlide verwenden.

Ausgezeichnetes Ergebnis beim Wettbewerb Stefan. Konvektive Strömungen heißer Luft von der sonnenerwärmten Landebahn lassen das Segelflugzeug nicht lange landen und erhöhen den Bodeneffekt.

A thought has just occurred to me, a non-glider pilot. Thus…Could a full size glider carry an external thermometer in order to indicate when one has found the warmer air of a thermal? In addition of course to the altitude meter beeping accordingly?

Amazing how fast your average speeds are! I dont know though - I still think you all fly differently because you have the back up motor? maybe more aggressive

No, usually there is no difference in the average speed if you have a motor or not. Perhaps at the very critical days where you know you will need to land somewhere, some pilots are pushing a little bit more and are relying on their propulsion system. But also at our "outlining" day I started my motor at a farm strip.

To be honest, I don´t have a close look at the MC value for the speed to fly. Fun fact: I was flying with the ASG29 polar in XCSoar because I was too lazy to create a custom polar for the AS33. For me it´s only important for the final glide calculation. At the end I don´t know if a speed to fly with MC value is still very helpful with modern sailplanes. But the new vario technology is amazing to use energy lines very efficient.

@@SteFly Absolutely. Already in the late 70s and early 80s Ingo Renner favoured fixed speeds as opposed to following a flight director as many did back then. My own feeling out of my experience is that there is more to lose from extreme speed angle of attack changes than the small loses from not flying at the perfect theoretical speed. Some successful pilots I've meet tended too fly faster than the theory on bombastic days, and slower than the theory on poor days; it seemed to work very well for them; of course the most important part of the equation is that they flew along the best lines between thermals. I assume that the crazy good gliders of today like the AS33 have such good performance that it makes sense to fly super fast all the time. As for using the 29 polar instead of the 33, I'm sure that the random differences in lift and sink along your path are way bigger than the polar difference between those two birds. Anyway, congrats again, Stefan. Winning consecutive worlds, one in the mountains and the other in the flats is really really impressive.
