@n1vca2 жыл бұрын
Maybe I missed that part, but for me a major point for any kind of propulsion on a glider would be the question if it offers you the capability of taking off on your own? Here someone had to pull you up with traditional motor plane, which creates a massive dependency on others and equipment as well as extra costs, but is this tiny jet really to weak to accelerate you on a "normal" length runway to a speed way beyond safe lift-off? I guess the roll resistance is so high that this jet is in the category of a more sophisticated hair-dryer ? 🙂
@moteroargentino79442 жыл бұрын
With enough runway it probably could, but if you want a powered glider then there are purposefully built ones. Gliders sacrifice all for performance in the air, including the self launch capabilities, that's why it's a sport. Win some, lose some. If you want it back, you'll have to sacrifice performance and you get closer to a regular aircraft. The point of this kits is to increase flight time and add capabilities while keeping added weight and drag to a minimum.
@n1vca2 жыл бұрын
@@moteroargentino7944 I have seen gliders with props on an electric motor that, just like this one, completely disappear into the fuselage, so they are aerodynamically no sacrifice, they are just like having a passenger behind you, some extra weight. And they have the ability to actually get in the air by themselves. So you think the extra weight is such a big sacrifice? This jet is obviously a very compact add-on that is strong enough to keep you in the air for quite a while, once you are up there. Maybe it also comes in handy if for whatever reason you end up above the clouds and you are looking for a safe hole to get back underneath again. I am not a glider pilot, but as a motor pilot this can easiely happen and then you are much more safe if you have enough fuel and can stay up there and find the right spot to descend, avoiding IMC.

I was really waiting for a high speed low pass with afterburner 😈😎 But nice vid, the owner must be super happy with the glider 🙂

I'm waiting for the hot jet blast to burn off the tail, now that would be exciting.

The propulsive efficiency is probably pretty low. Looks cool though.

Just a quick question can you use the jet to self launch, without a tow plane?

This is an awesome option to consider! Any idea how long from power-on until climbing away from your landout? How much weight does the system and full fuel add to the empty weight? Do they have any information available?
@SteFly2 жыл бұрын
I have seen somewhere on their page that it takes 40 second to extend the jet and power it up to 30.000 RPM. Then it will take some more seconds to get the full RPM (95.000). So 50 - 60 seconds until the full power is available.

Just flip the complete jet over so that it makes reverse :D

The engine is straight before the tail. Does the heat from engine not damage the tail?
@SteFly2 жыл бұрын
No, it was tested and measured for the certification process.

Since the engine is retractable, Why didn’t they mount the engine underneath, where the tail would be clear of the jet engine’s exhaust? I guess to spare the damage to a grass field when taking off.

I am in no way shape or form a pilot, engineer or mechanic, with that said does that jet engine not generate (in full throttle) enough heat to damage the tail section?
@hartfischer5509 Жыл бұрын
That is amazing. That makes gliders totally reliable for long distance travelling. Amazing.
